I'm a plotter, and Sarra Cannon is one of my favorite writing coach, though I haven't taken her course, her channel has helped me a lot. Like you, I write a lot of things by hand, and I love to plan and brainstorm. Good luck with your writing!

I always seem to learn something new when I watch her videos! Or even things I already knew, I end up looking at it a different way-I love her stuff. One of these days, I’d love to take her course too! Plotting and brainstorming is definitely the most fun part for me-I just wish the rest of the process stayed as easy! 😅

This system is seriously so inspiring! Now I want to figure out how to make my own writing notebook. Also, I’m so glad I decided to catch up on your videos because just yesterday I was searching for a pouch just like the one you use and couldn’t find one! 🎉

Ahh thank you!! 💖 The hardest part really is finding what works for you specifically. And it sucks because I much prefer the look of like, a leuchtturm or other kind of dotted journal, but I KNOW I’d just keep failing trying to use one of those when what I need is more flexible like this. I hope you find a good pouch!! It’s been the best having everything I use in one place omg.

I'm a plantser but leaning more to pantsing while drafting but while revising I outline a lot more!

It seems like most people are never really strictly one or the other, at least in my experience. It’s always interesting to me to see what methods people use and the way they combine stuff like that-it’s like we all have our own special recipe when we sit down to write. 😂

Oh, I for sure have a crush on Rachel. I'm super analog as well, to the point that I write my first draft by hand as well. Something about the tactile experience really helps solidify concepts in my brain. I need as many pathways as I can get or I will forget stuff (adhd object permanence problems, lol). I love seeing how other people organize their writing life. I can't believe I, the grand daughter of a southern baptist pastor, completely forgot about the existence of bible cases! Like, of course they are perfect for this sort of thing! I'm off to find one asap.

Exactly! Writing by hand just feels somehow more freeing, but also more real. Sometimes I wish I could be strictly digital, I’m so jealous of people who are able to do stuff with only their iPad or something, but that just ain’t me sadly. 😂 And that’s friggin hilarious! I hope you find a good case/pouch for your needs! It’s been SO HELPFUL. 💖

I love the planner and the stickers! Also your handwriting is so pretty!
I wish I was a planner person. As a writer I am definitely a plantser, but I LOVE planners and I LOVE looking at pretty planners and journals, but actually doing it myself? Never happens (and if it does I care too little to make it look nice)😅 But maybe I should try an actual planner again and see how it goes...

AHHH thank you! I always feel like my planners look so childish compared to other people, like those folks that have those GORGEOUS bullet journals, could never be me lmao. I will say that it helped to start small, like I just started writing the day and date, then my billeted lost, and once I got used to that, I started to build pretty stuff around it. I always fail when I try to start out pretty right off the bat. It’s like I have to ease into it. 😂

This video came up in my feed. I enjoyed every minute of it and subscribed! I am wondering where you got that typewriter/word count stamp? I am interested in the fact that you have switched from YA to romance. I will look to see if you have talked about this more somewhere... Thank you for sharing your system.

    • @aprilkayauthor

Thank you so much! That means a lot! Unfortunately, I bought the stamp so long ago that I don’t remember in the slightest where I got it. But I’ve found some similar ones on Etsy just by searching up “typewriter stamp.” (Sorry, I’d link if I could, but TH-cam comments don’t let you!) I did just recently make a video about my decision to stop writing YA and focus on romance, but really it just comes down to YA being difficult for me. Which sucks, because I still really love reading it!! Thanks again! 💖

@@aprilkayauthor thank you for your reply. I will look up the stamp. I just watched that video and left a comment. Thank you. Your unflagging sincerity will carry you and carry you over the years. No doubt about it. Eventually you will likely become comfortable with all of the in's and out's that journey brings you and see it all as good.
