Thank you so much for sharing! Great performance and great voice from your clarinet! I do appreciate your way of playing the clarinet! Warm and colorful!
0:38 same - with Selmer Privilege, now 6.5 years ago. Bb, A, bass. Love from first notes. That was a point of no return. My friends and colleagues have repeatedly asked me what would be the clarinet of my dream. While I love trying new equipment and deeply cherish contributions of Schwenk & Seggelke, Dietz, Yamaha, Buffet Crampon, Uebel, and others- the Privilege constitutes the ultimate clarinet to me. I did love Leblanc Opus II, too, and BTW found it very close in concept to Privilege. It is a tragedy that their entire stock of precious wood has burned. I tried Recital Bb and A and loved them, but probably needed more time to get used to the heavier and chubbier instrument.
The depth of sound comes from the Instrument correct. The most important aspect of the mouthpiece in my opinion is intonation, intonation and intonation. I played on a well in tune clarinet but the mouthpiece I tried made the throat tones super flat.
PS Todd You make a great lyrical sound and I have enjoy listening to you playing the Finzi bagatelles sound so English - do you by any chance pley Gerald Finzi’s clarinet Concerto which I believe was written for Frederick Thurston principle of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Royal College of music at one time one of the greatest English players ever I think he died in the 50s and they’re not that many recordings from those days It certainly is true what you say about the signature Clarinet I have never played so much Clarinet but have bought one due to your plane and that of Stephen Williamson I have complete son Saxophones all my life About a year ago I tried The new privilege instrument and thought it was fabulous during this lockdown I have heard many videos and it is certainly true what you say about this Signature instrument you are playing it is very unique. I think it contributes to your playing which I find very lyrical. I hope that you may perhaps record the Finzi concerto. Thank you I look forward to hearing more of your work on this fabulous instrument - God bless you and yours - Bill - UK
