The games look alot more realistic when you play them in your own game station like nhl 17 looks way better on my ps4 than what it showed on this video

NHL 94 on Genesis is the GOAT
NHL 94 on both systems hands down the greatest hockey game of all time :D
I spent the whole first minute thinking why snes? I had both systems and EA sports games were better on genesis. We played 94 for years after it was so good.

When you realize that every game after 16 is just a roster update
Vade Gamer in some cases roasters are not even accurate. The Avs for example are missing some top players.
As a dev on this game since NHL 07, this is a really cool walk down memory lane... I guess (obviously) the majority do play the game for the on ice-experience, but a video like this about how (for example) career modes have changed over a similar time frame would be interesting to see too... A lot has changed there too, but its not as visual so I guess it's maybe not as compelling to see/watch. Nice effort to put all this together though... I also watched your total game evolution and I played a bunch of those back in the 80s myself...
People say how nothing has changed from NHL 15; not sure how they don't notice the stick-control overhaul in 18, the skating overhaul in 19, and the shooting overhaul in 20. Sure, the actual game may look the same, but the gameplay is so much better than it was in 15.
Miss the Commentary and the soundtracks. Also the blood on the ice and smashing windows. With hits and pucks.
NHL 97 was game changer
Great job displaying a goal scored by the Stanley Cup winner of each previous year.. except Rangers fans won't forgive you for putting the Islanders in the 95 edition in their place ;)

1991 graphics were amazing at the time considering most gamers in the early 90s had grown up playing Atari, ColecoVision and Intellivision systems that couldn't even make a round Pac Man.

NHL Hockey 92 pc ????
The most unrealistic NHL hockey video game has got to be Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey. Players rise from the ice at the start of a game and it’s also impossible to get penalties- referees only exist to drop the puck. And there’s an entire mode dedicated to fighting, which results in one of the harshest penalties in hockey!

By my heart the best for me are 94, 99, 12 and 14. I like also 20, but there are lots of problems need to be fixed. Of course older ones had some too, but in nowadays there are technologies and experiences to do it better.
I’d love to know how many hours I logged playing these. Gotta be way more than homework hours.

So from 2010 to 2020 nothing really happened lol
i think they made tweaks to the physics engine in the earlier part of the decade , the game did start to feel gradually less "arcadey" and more of an actual sim, I remember them removing a lot of exploits and back hand wrap around shots that were pretty much automatic goals in 2010 and 2009
Omg, after watching this I can actually see some of the same animations and player tendencies in some of the way older versions that look like nhl 20.. my god EA...

First NHL game i played was NHL 09 on PS2.
Oh god, NHL Hockey 91. I played that game every day.
Can't believe you didn't include "Wayne Gretzky's 3D hockey" for N64 that came out in 96, it was the first 3D hockey game.

As someone who has hours and hours on NHL 7 on the PSP, after I heard the commentary for some of the other games in that time period, I realized a lot of it was recycled, word for word. Classic EA

‘15 to ‘16
I'd say 15 to 16 when it came to game modes, but the biggest jump in gameplay was 18 to 19. The new skating made 18 feel obsolete.

There’s a little familarity about the Stanley Cup Winners (who scores) and maybe losers.
I get that some goal horns are for copy right or consent rights but why can’t they easily go back the the old horns in these games

EA should do a comprehensive game of all the Sega sports game ( Madden ,NBA, NBA LIVE, FIFA ,MLB baseball ( unless licensing won't allow), just put it out on PS4 , Xbox 1, u don't need 2 remaster it ,GAMERS would love it.
