So the reference to who J-hope was talking about, rappers trying to rap in english has to be a reference to a korean rapper named B-Free. B-free is a korean underground rapper who was born and raised in Hawaii, so he does tend to use a lot of english in his raps. Suga and RM were established underground rappers, they've both taken part in a number of underground rap competitions. From the age of 12 RM was already well known in those circles, which is just crazy. Originally bts was supposed to be a hip hop rap group like 1TYM. When the decision was made to make them an idol group instead and after they debuted as such, a lot of their old circle couldn't handle it. One of those people was B-free, who insulted rm and suga to their faces on a show and called them girls who wear make up, and said he found it personally disgusting. He said that bts betrayed hip hop and sold out for money, made fun of their stage names, bighit's ceo pd bang, and just would not stop. The ARMY that were there filmed the interaction. Because RM and Suga don't have such rudeness in them, and because they were the youngest people in the room (there is a common hierarchy of respect in korea that is largely built on age), they sat there and took it while this grown ass "underground rapper" condescended and talked down to them, b-free who was literally 10+ years older than them (30). RM and suga were polite and took it well, just very calmly trying to explain their thoughts. But the incident greatly upset ARMY, and so they decided to put all the things they wanted to say in their music. And they all just went savage on this dude on the beat, which is what you see here with even j-hope like "get your dusty english rapping out my face." But of the 3, the one person who has never taken his foot of b-free's neck is Suga. Suga even saying "why don't you go back to hawaii" and "just like your parents my heart hurts looking at you." as well as a multitude of other things. I believe the entire agust d track is about him and these conceited underground rappers with him saying "y'all need to thank me that i decided to become an idol." And of course, B-free's career has never recovered. It's been in free fall ever since. To this day his shit gets a ton of dislikes even though he has apologized publicly twice. He is a pariah even in underground circles. And in the ultimate karma of writing checks your ass can't cash, homeboy got arrested and jailed the day Suga's Dwaechita came out which is just... chef's kiss.

I don't know if you noticed but when RM said turn the beat backwards the beat actually turned backwards And In Japanese, kagemusha is a term used to denote a political decoy.
RM changed lyrics *when guys are smoking and girls are cheating* to *when someone is smoking and someone is cheating* because he don't want to target a particular gender for it so he changed it.
Hey KnoxHill! Kagemusha is the Japanese term for a political decoy, literally meaning "shadow warrior". 11:19 Here Suga is saying that everything you see on TV is kagemusha, meaning a smoke courtain to cover things up.
This cypher is probably one of the best live performances due to Suga's part at 12:45. The Cypher series is like their response to the haters they've gotten over the years. You'll notice in Cypher Pt. 4 it's almost like the last message to them! I won't spoil anymore but you'll see why it is labeled as their "last" cypher and there is not an official pt.5
BTS was invited by Seo Taiji and Boys to join them on stage for their 25th anniversary and sing the song "Come Back Home". They were also asked/allowed by Taiji to record their own version. It has a West Coast vibe to the beat and I think it gets overlooked. It is 100% worth checking out. :) The original was released in 1995 and the BTS version was 2017. Supreme Boi is an in-house producer from BigHit (BTS' label/company) and was ALMOST a member of BTS. All four of the cyphers were aimed at their haters, mainly from the Korean underground HipHop scene that said they were sell-outs and not "real rappers" for being "idols".
One of the first songs I heard when I started looking into BTS. That's when I went "oooh American media is doing them dirty by pigeonholing them". The perception I had of them by American music media before and the reality was stark.

But when their CEO Mr BANG PD said that the grp won't be a hip hop grp but will be an idol grp he confessed that he can't become the member but rather take part as a producer and he featured here as a rapper and he is talented indeed.
I think for the next you should definitely do Cypher Pt. 4 and then check out their medley performance. It shows Pts. 1-4 with them performing all of pt.4 while they each get to rap one part in 1-3. (J-Hope raps his lines in pt.1, Suga raps his lines pt. 2 and RM raps lines pt. 3 then they all do pt. 4)
I recommend Intro: Persona, Interlude: Shadow, and Outro: Ego! I think you would like breaking them down. Also I think you would really like RM’s mixtape (which is called RM). Thank you so much for the genuine reactions!
I have to say - and mind you, I’ve been ARMY lovin rap line for 7 years - and you are the first “rapper” (and a fucking good one) that gets what they’re saying. You got MAD skill and I am literally on the edge of my seat waiting for you to watch the DKDK TV explained DDANG ( which is pronounced like dang) and then watching you melt at the lyrical talent. I’m old. I grew up in D-Town (Detroit) whole Em was coming up. Showing my age but I was at eight mile and that movie hit close. KRS-ONE and Ice-T Freedom of Speech is my home. I saw Ice do Cop Killer at Lalapaloza. This is a long and rambling way of me saying in every way, you right and you tight. Keep it up man. You’re an intellectual and and those are the rappers that matter.
I think you need to step into JHope's and RM's solo stuff -given how you've reacted to Suga's solos; RM justifies why he's called Rap Monster, and J-Hope spins the aggressiveness associated with Hip-Hop and Rap to make it lighter, more uplifting.
RM changed the meaning of his name from Rap Monster to Real Me back in 2017 though, remember? I get what you meant by commenting, but he did change the meaning because he didn't feel Rap Monster matched who he is.
4:57 he says *you're like a sewer and i'm savory* >> this is basically some genius and funny wordplay: you should pay attention to the part right before that, he said "turn the beat backwards",, i'm not really sure what that should mean in English since i'm not a native English speaker, so i'll just tell u the original Korean meaning " *turn the words backward* , you're a sewer, i'm savory" Wordplay here: sewer in Korean is spelled "하수구" and savory in Korean is spelled "구수하다" if u look closely, the spelling of "하수구" is the same as '"구수하"다' flipped backwards so in summary, *this- "하수구">>"구수하"다 - is what happened*
That's the first time I see this explanation! Thank you. I try to gather as much information about NJ's brand of lyricism, because I know he works on his verses like a wordsmith, and non-Korean speakers like me, who love intelligent and clever texts, miss so many awesome things! So, after having listened to the BTS cyphers uncountable times over, this really, really made my day.
Knox, I just want to say I love your BTS breakdowns so much. This may be a long comment so stick with me. It’s so refreshing seeing such a talented rapper like yourself really appreciate them. I truly think you’d benefit from looking at the proper lyrics on doolset or similar that explains them better just to aid your reactions. It’s just that I’d hate for you to miss out on the genius of some of these lyrics because honestly, these translations are really not good. I hope that’s okay to suggest. Thanks again man and also thank you for doing your own thing. People can get a lot of hate if they connect to BTS, they are so misjudged so I hope you know that we really are thankful for you not following the crowd. If you didn’t like their music and wanted to stop reacting to them, then that’s also okay too of course, but you’re killing it as always 🔥 I really am a big fan of yours 🙏
I would like to agree with your comment. He is really good in those reactions, I can't stop coming back here. I would love to see better translation as you mention to all Cyphers because BTS rappers are also very poetic.
I said it before and I'll say it again. In terms of rap, no kpop group comes close to BTS' rap line and their word play. Whenever l hear that they'll release a new song, l can't help but get excited about what they've been working on. Was never disappointed
Knox bro!! Thank you! Yeah the translations are not accurate but you get the overall message. A side note - they do the whole of cypher 4 in the live medley 🔥 Also Supreme boi is another rapper/producer but not part of BTS. He features on some of their raps 😊
I have this uneducated feeling that BTS rap being appreciated by American rappers will slowly, surely and importantly raise the standards of rap here. I'm all for genius lyrics and creative, unexpected flows like this...so refreshing and necessary to raise the bar. PLEASE help raise the bar!
I can't wait for the bts livestream!! Also after finishing the Cypher series I want you to listen to RM's Joke! Or if you wanna see all the three rappers, then see ddaeng!!
Omg I love that you said you loved Cypher 1 and 2, but 3 seemed like they leveled up! I always thought that's how it went, you love 1, but then you're like damn 2 is even better. Then you hear 3 and you're like sheeesh they got even better. And then cypher pt 4? Even BETTER. I hope you listen to part 4 soon and I also recommend Outro: Tear. At first the song seems like it's about a breakup between lovers, but BTS came out to say it was really about their feelings about BTS possibly breaking up, and it made that song so much sadder. I hope you listen to them soon!
I love your way of reacting to bts (kpop in general) because you actually try to understand the message and analize the rap. There are so many reactors who only do this for money and only say what the fans want to hear - so thank you
Thank you so much for reacting to bts this week. I literally wait for Monday the whole week to get your reactions on kpop. Love your reactions so much . Keep going❤️
I think the TH-camrs who get the most from being a reactor are people in the music or video sector, such as musicians, vocalists, dancers, rappers and video editors and producers ... because they not only get fun but also get learning from what they see. such as movement, vocal technique, flow, and editing.
im loving your BTS discovery series, I just cant wait until you finally get into the whole BTS. As for now you've mostly seen the rap line but man, once you get into the whole thing...The combination of rap, with vocals and dance. Plus great performances and incredible talent. You'll be mind blown. Their live performances are incredible! You'll need to watch the MMA 2019 full performance, promise you wont regret it.
After you react to Cypher part 4, when you watch the live version, make sure not to turn on the subtitles, because they are completely wrong. :) The live version is a medley of all 4 cyphers together. :) Just study the lyrics for all 4, and you will enjoy yourself when you see them performing live. ;) @Knox Hill
And it should say … All the girls call me, beeper (not pipi) Original Korean lyrics use 언니 (unnie), which is used by females to call/address an older female. It is, however, common that night club barkers (even if they are males) call female customers unnies. The use of unnie thus makes sense here. 삐삐 (bbibbi) is a pager/beeper, so it could be (1) “all the girls, call me, page me.” Or, since bbi- is commonly used as an onomatopoeia of censoring sounds, it could also be (2) “all the girls call me ‘XX’,” where XX is some unknown word There’s loads more but just wanted to show there’s so much more to their songs 💜💜
All the cyphers are basically directed at their haters. I’m sure you’ve seen previous comments go into more detail about this but it was their way of being able to address all the prejudice and discrimination they so often received coming up. I’m sure you’ve noticed that even to this day, this still happens but they wanted to have their say and prove themselves as rappers/songwriters and boy, they did just that!
Hi Knox. I hope you see this as I’ve been in the wings for a while and just wanted to comment my appreciation. You are truly amazing at breakdowns - so intelligent and well-articulated. I learn so much. I am also very thankful that you continue to be open-minded with your reaction choices. I appreciate there is a real misconception about bts but I’m hoping your breakdowns will help change that a little, as they are so talented, especially as rappers. Excited to continue on this journey with you.
I also highly recommend the doolset bangtan lyric site to refer to in your reactions. You will appreciate their craft so much more when you can see the wordplays etc used that aren’t translated 😊
Your reactions are literally the best! I love how you break down the lyrics and your own songs are literally great! You have real taste in music... keep up the good work !! 💜💜
Supreme Boi is a producer and rapper under Big Hit (now HYBE) with BTS. He was actually supposed to debut in the original BTS group when they were supposed to debut as a Hip-hop group but chose not to when they were decided to debut as Kpop idols instead. He works a lot with the boys especially the rapine (RM, Suga, J-Hope)!
One thing cool about the rap line is that the play a lot with their voices so you know they are not doing playback when they sing it live. That’s what really makes them different from the other idols who rap. Like you said, these are real MC.
Sewer vs savory is a KR wordplay, if you see the romanization: neon hasugu --> play the beat backwards --> nan gusuha(ji) where the first one means "you sewer" and the second one is "I savory" (tasty?) ;)
This is my fav cypher of all, this was the first cypher I ever listened too and I just love the raps and how rach member brings something different to the rap
I like The fact that he isnt trying to look like A rapper but he definitely has the knowledge of the rap itself, like he clearly can point out the rap part that's worth it to get praise 👌It's really satisfiying to watch his reaction video
Kagemusha (Shadow Warrior) is a political decoy, employed by the busho (Japanese military commander) as his straw man. He is saying that half of what is on TV is fake. (explanation by doolset)
4:52 the translation is accurate it's just that in korean it's a play on word 하수구 : hasugu = sewer 구수하(다) : gusuha(da) = (to be) savory So you can basically read them backwards, hope that make sense, neither English or korean are my native language 😅
To give you some of their crack I would recommend spine breaker MV as it was their task to do it in their hotel room and the stuff they got down to was hilarious
A little back story in case you're curious, RM and SUGA were already in the rap game before they became idols, both of them were underground rappers. RM was under 15 I think and had all the adults scared of him🤣🤣🤣 SUGA was originally interested in becoming a producer instead but ended up becoming a member of BTS. Jhope, however, was not a rapper before joining, he was an underground dancer, he learned rap after joining BTS.
Ps, you need to react to 'Joke'😉😉 RM goes hard, let's just say he truly shows why he's called a rap monster. React to the lyric video instead and afterwards the mv, the mv doesn't have subtitles from my understanding.
I hope you react to the live performances of this!! Or the cypher medley live!! I really love your reactions bcs you appreciate everything and never miss a single thing.

(J-Hope raps his lines in pt.1, Suga raps his lines pt. 2 and RM raps lines pt. 3 then they all do pt. 4)
Just the fact that this was a live performance is enough to wanna watch! 🔥
I'm disapointed I can't find the medley can you please give me a link ?
@@louise_hhassler5450 The actual video gets blocked a lot on TH-cam but here it is on Daily Motion: www.dailymotion.com/video/x7ulo8l
@@ariannac98 thank you so much for blessing my eyes and ears with this, i have never seen this one and it's awesooomeeee
BTS Changed my view on music and I'm so glad to see they're doing the same to everyone around the world!
BTS songs that I really want you to react for soon:
1. BTS-DDAENG
2. RM-PERSONA
3. BTS-DOPE
Pleasee, I think you'll like it(*>.
HELL FUCKING YES
Thanks for reacting to BTS it really means a lot to ARMYs.
I just finished binge-watching your BTS break downs and here I am getting another break down T.T thanksss
@@StarlightStella613 they were just complimenting smh🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
4:57 he says *you're like a sewer and i'm savory* >> this is basically some genius and funny wordplay: you should pay attention to the part right before that, he said "turn the beat backwards",, i'm not really sure what that should mean in English since i'm not a native English speaker, so i'll just tell u the original Korean meaning " *turn the words backward* , you're a sewer, i'm savory"
Wordplay here: sewer in Korean is spelled "하수구" and savory in Korean is spelled "구수하다" if u look closely, the spelling of "하수구" is the same as '"구수하"다' flipped backwards so in summary, *this- "하수구">>"구수하"다 - is what happened*
Yay more BTS rapline 😁
DIS MY FAV CYPHER
Ok u did do 1 & 2 can't wait for Cypher 4
BTS - Outro: Tear
RM - Persona
Suga - Shadow
J-Hope - Ego
I'll be here waiting for his out of body experience when he reacts to Outro: Tear
I am patiently waiting for when he reacts to OUTRO:Tear.
Just to add! It may have already been said but when RM said ‘turn the beat backwards’ the beat literally did go backwards 😅
Omg I‘m so hyped for the BTS Livestream😍😭
when is it coming though?
Yess
When??? 😱😱
12:00 and the way he switchs his voice to baby-talking/sweet voice while saying that makes me go 😳🥵🔥
I said it before and I'll say it again.
Supreme Boi is one of the Producer in BigHit n he often co-produced BTS songs
10:13 CAUSE HE GOT THAT TONGUE TECHNOLOGY!!
Ahhh so excited for this! Hope you’re feeling better dude 🙌
4:49 the beat actually turn backwards :)
I really can’t wait for you to do “Joke” by RM! Thanks for another great reaction/dissection 😊
joke is a masterpiece 😭😭🙏
Literally been waiting for this one and pt 4. I clicked the notification soooo fast.
"literally" is overused and misunderstood.
@@Tcrror well, Its how i use it. So dont worry about it 🙃
my favorite CYPHER with CYPHER 4 ! I am always so hyped
I really need you to react to CYPHER MEDLEY LIVE that's where you can see them rapping in all its glory
I love your way of reacting to bts (kpop in general) because you actually try to understand the message and analize the rap. There are so many reactors who only do this for money and only say what the fans want to hear - so thank you
All I can say is cypher medley live. You'll love it. Have a good day!
Thank you so much for reacting to bts this week. I literally wait for Monday the whole week to get your reactions on kpop. Love your reactions so much . Keep going❤️
RM "Joke"
Appreciate the reactions, been watching way before your k-pop reactions, but super excited you started down this road!! Keep 'em coming!! :)
Legend has it that there is a V still dabbing to this day (if you know, you know)
The live for this goes HARD! Thank you Knox - we really appreciate your bts breakdowns !
I love how u verbally and physically imitate the flow lol
🕺bada🕺baba🕺bam
The fact that these three has so different rapping styles but somehow blend so well together
I cannot WAIT for him to finish the cyphers and react to their Cypher Medley Live!!
It’s truly something else🔥
I think the TH-camrs who get the most from being a reactor are people in the music or video sector, such as musicians, vocalists, dancers, rappers and video editors and producers ... because they not only get fun but also get learning from what they see. such as movement, vocal technique, flow, and editing.
The live of this has J Hope chirping a phone at the "iPhone" part hahaha 😆 🤣 our adlib king plus Kookie is nasty with adlibs too!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
im loving your BTS discovery series, I just cant wait until you finally get into the whole BTS.
And it should say …
All the girls call me, beeper (not pipi)
Original Korean lyrics use 언니 (unnie), which is used by females to call/address an older female. It is, however, common that night club barkers (even if they are males) call female customers unnies. The use of unnie thus makes sense here. 삐삐 (bbibbi) is a pager/beeper, so it could be (1) “all the girls, call me, page me.” Or, since bbi- is commonly used as an onomatopoeia of censoring sounds, it could also be (2) “all the girls call me ‘XX’,” where XX is some unknown word
There’s loads more but just wanted to show there’s so much more to their songs 💜💜
YESSSS KNOXXXX Haven't even started yet and I am so excited
He would love joke by RM 🥰
I like The fact that he isnt trying to look like A rapper but he definitely has the knowledge of the rap itself, like he clearly can point out the rap part that's worth it to get praise 👌It's really satisfiying to watch his reaction video
Fr, he's amazing. Definitely deserve the compliment.
Kagemusha (Shadow Warrior) is a political decoy, employed by the busho (Japanese military commander) as his straw man. He is saying that half of what is on TV is fake. (explanation by doolset)
If you can watch the live version esp. the cypher medley, its awesome. The bts rapline can hype and hold the crowd, they are amazing.
So Happy You Did Cypher pt 3 .. And now i'm waiting for Pt 4🤩🤩
And Also ''THE LAST by AGUST D'' I hope you'd do a Reaction to it
I’ve watched a few of your reviews just today and I have to say that I really appreciate the way you dissect lyrics and the music!
you need to react also to "born singer" where they tell their life stories before becoming idols and everything they suffered
highly recommend:
Interlude : Shadow
Outro: Tears
Intro: Skool luv affairs
Persona
They all are sick!!!!!
Been waiting for this, pt 4 and JOKE by rm 💜💜 thank you!
Now you need to watch Cypher pt. 3 LIVE. The energy there is insane!
Thank you for your reaction 😊
I think you would really like Suga's Interlude: Shadow. Love your reactions by the way.
Thank you for reaction, I waited this all week ❤
RM JOKE, straight up bars!!! He does not breath 🤯🤯💜💜
Love your reactions to the rapline, they're insane and is so good to hear someone who actually understands talking about them
Now, you gotta do the 4th one and Joke by RM
THANK YOU SO MUCH KNOX!!
knox u definitely need to react to songs like "hip hop lover", "pied piper" and "born singer". They feature all the BTS members :)
up
4:52 the translation is accurate it's just that in korean it's a play on word
하수구 : hasugu = sewer
구수하(다) : gusuha(da) = (to be) savory
So you can basically read them backwards, hope that make sense, neither English or korean are my native language 😅
You should react to cypher pt4 I can rap sugar verse and I also love hobis verse Namjoons too they all just sound so good.
Your bts reactions are the highlight of my life. I can’t get enough of them...
Yess I've been waiting for this, I thought you forgot abt this lmfao
I've missed your BTS reactions... it's good to see you back
I really want you to react to their cypher medley 2017 live in dailymotion! they remixed it and it's amazinggg
Can't wait for part 4!!! 😁👍💜
You definitely gotta check out their mixtapes!!! Their solo projects and collaborations are truly amazing.
BTS livestream? I'm all in!
how cleaver you are! I love the way you interpret each lyrics. Not just a reaction, but you understand it well. Thank you so much. ARMY proud of you 💜
Woooooooooo we got BTS Live on the 24th? :O :O :O I love you! And your music too!
