Your video brings back wonderful memories of our trip through lake Erie and the Erie Canal in an Albin almost the same as the one you were driving. It was a fun trip. It looks like you two were also having a good time although you were making time on a delivery -- we were ambling along enjoying the trip.
I get a kick out of you saying on your intro “at the age of 23 I sold everything and bought a trawler”. Most 23 year olds can’t say that. Keep that ambition going. Good things will come.
I lived around the tidewater Virginia area for years and never knew the Dismal Swamp was encapsulated by locks. If you're ever planning on coming to New Hampshire coastal or DC where I'm from HMU and bring your dad. I know our dads would get along great as my dad is a retired marine biologist but still works and has access to museums and such. Edit: Do I remember correctly that you're from New Hampshire?
What date did you go through there? Another couple called Scho & Jo went through in late June, they also have a channel, and are doing the great loop...
Technically it is the Barge Canal. The real Erie Canal was abandoned around 1918. NYS decided to use the Erie Canal term as a historic tourist trap to make a little extra money. And see ...it worked. You fell for it here. And as you most likely found out certainly nothing special. A L O N G slow boring ride with most of the scenery being trees, scrub brush, weeds, old run down and/or abandoned houses and shacks(we will call them cottages). And going through the locks is perhaps interesting at best once or twice but after that is just an added hassle that makes the trip WAY longer than you want it to be. No sir, the BARGE Canal certainly ain't nothing more than Clinton's Folly now that the main reason it was built (commercial shipping) is long gone. And such another taxpayer bottomless money pit.....for what. The 20 pleasure boats that cruise the canal every year???
I drive past the flight of locks regularly in my car. It is great to see them from the other perspective. Thanks for the video.
Great job Gus , I'm 79 yrs old , and would have never experienced going through the locks in My life time . Thanks for the ride !

An update on your Florida boat when you can.

So i guess the guard gate is to act as a safety in the event a malfunction happens with the locks?
Looks like fun. Stay safe and drink one for me. Lol
Amazing.
How do you manage to keep the boat close to the "wall" ? Using ropes/mooring lines and fenders?
Love your channel, love the content. Pretty sure your suppose to have a life jacket on in the locks…
Great videos! What program do you use for your editing?
Gus, Are the locks free to travel.
Hey man, we live in Brewerton and subscribe to your channel. When will you be coming through here?
my boat is 19 feet in high, what is the lowest bridge clearances for the Erie Canal
is there a fee going through the locks? all year long?
Gus, how many days did it take you to go from NYC to Buffalo
So , is there any charge to use these locks?
What is the charge for going through locks and how much time does it take?
Do the locks charge a fee?
Like the video's but way to short.
