Hey Josh, very cool video! I’m from Oneida and spent my summers at Sylvan Beach. I’m the same age as your deck hand now. Love your boat! Thank you for sharing the beauty of central NY.
I have certainly enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Spent a lot of time on the river. Lived just down the road from Baldwinsville Lock 24. Been through it many times!
Hi add a comment but not sure where it went. We love the canal system. Glad you enjoyed it. We have traveled from Rochester to Oswego New York into the canal systems to Albany New York. Then the Champlain canal yo Burlington vermont. I am now an 81!year old lady. I went on this trip five years with my husband on our 32 four carver. Trip of the life time. You need yo try this trip. 40 licks. Five days.
Just started watching your vids Gus. I am a marine Engineer and have my own boat in the Medway in England. I also fetch and deliver boats sometimes and have some awesome stories over the years. Your Dad should be more immersed in what you are doing. He has a wicked sense of humour even though he has no camera experience, I hope he is around more in the vids. You are still learning and there is lots to learn, but you have a reasonable working knowledge to improve upon. I liked to watch the lock stuff, as I did the Forth And Clyde Canal from the west coast to the east coast of Scotland, up 29 locks then around the side of a mountain and then down 29 locks to Berwick On Tweed and out into the North Sea. We even got fish and chips from the world famous Sail Through Fish and Chip Shop just outside Glasgow. IF you ever want to come to Europe and visit the United Kingdom, give me a shout, I would be happy to show you some amazing Engineering we have for Viaducts and waterways. Maybe your youtubers would really enjoy these things. Look up the Falkirk Wheel. That will light up your Engineering mind I think, LOL. Keep up the great work, look forward to your next project young un. Nigel.
Awesome! Next time you're going through Canajoharie, look for the hidden passage to a Unfound Pirates Lair Cave. Was told a story by a local old farmer some 30 year ago.
Another enjoyable video. Did you thank lockmasters on the VHF after you went through locks? I did when we did the Erie Canal many years ago. The Erie and the towns along the canal look very much like they did in 2009 when we transited. I don't think there is a whole lot of change in upstate New York these days. But all the places we stopped in were happy to see us.
Hey Danny, thanks for watching! As you get closer to Lake Erie in the canal, there are alot more no wake zones, but for alot of the canal you can make some good time between locks.
Just found your channel and I'm loving it, I used to live directly across from Winter Harbor Marina and you're right it's a really fun little town! Curious why you took the canal the whole way and didn't just go to Oswego and zip across the lake to Buffalo?
Hey Fred! Thanks for watching. The depth is pretty consistent throughout the canal. Typically no less than 7-8 feet but usually in the 10-20ft range. Fortunately most of the debrees are at the surface and can be avoided. We did not encounter any submerged debree along the canal. With due diligence and care at the helm your chances of getting through without any damage is very good.
I knew of the innercoastal waterway but I honestly didn't realize you could get to Lake Erie from the Atlantic. Does those locks cost for you to use them and do you have to make a reservation for it? There's a lock near where I live in Southwest Tennessee on the Tennessee Tombagee waterway at the Pickwick dam
It was truly a engineering masterpiece for its time and its super cool that pleasure craft can still boat the entire canal. The locks are all on demand. No reservation needed. The cost for the locks this year was nothing. They waved the fees for covid, but in past years there has been a small fee that covers you for the season throughout the entire canal. Around $100. Thanks for watching!
I am not 100% Sure, but my guess would be that it has to do with a combination of residential zones with a lot of docks in the water, and also sections of the canal where they are trying to slow the erosion of the canal banks.
So, I’m guessing the answer is because it isn’t faster… But why not go across Lake Ontario? Should be locks that way I would think. Nice videos tho, just something I was wondering.
It probably would be faster, but I don't think we would be able to make it up Niagara Falls! lol In all seriousness I actually thought the same thing before realizing that there was not a way to get around the falls.
Actually you could have gone through Lake Ontario however you would’ve needed to go to through eight Welland canal locks which is in Canada. You would have wound up in Port Colburn Canada and from there you could have taken Lake Erie to Buffalo New York.
Just for your information, the proper way to address a lock is you tell them who you are, where you are, what you want. It would sound something like this… Lock 26 lock 26 lock 26 N bound motor vessel Misty Haven, 5 minutes south of your gate looking for a north bound passage. Just saying.
I'm from Utica NY(lock 20) and have been on the Erie canal a couple times. Cool to see someone cruise through it.
Thank you for sharing...I'll likely never get to have toured the famous canal otherwise!

Spent a lot of time on Oneida lake in the summer while growing up.
Fun times. Thank you for sharing. 😊
I live near Oneida Lake. There are some really good places to eat at Sylvan Beach

Gotta love free docks! Happy Birthday dad!
Another great video. Keep ‘em coming mate!
AWESOME! My neck of the woods, went right up river by our house a year ago!
Love those ruins of the old “Richmond Aqueduct”. It once carried the old canal through the area.
Living the adventure, Gus!
Happy Birthday Dad! 🎂
Old guy approved. 👍😎
Thanks for the trip Gus.
Great to see the trip is going really well... Your dad just made me hungry for Chinese food...lol

I can’t believe you didn’t feature my house on Cross Lake. Great video.
I miss seeing the mahogany chriscrafts on the canal.
Curious how much fuel you'll use by the time you get to Tonawanda..

Another awesome video gus ,is ther a lot of no wake, or can you make some time between locks 🤔
Hey Danny, thanks for watching! As you get closer to Lake Erie in the canal, there are alot more no wake zones, but for alot of the canal you can make some good time between locks.
Have you considered coming up to lake Superior? Maybe do the great loop
awesome
Happy Birthday to your Dad. Hope he found a Chinese restaurant.

I know this was 2 years ago but happy birthday dad.
Thanks, great trip. How have the obstacles and depth been on the rivers? Is there a lot of chance of prop damage?
Hey Fred! Thanks for watching. The depth is pretty consistent throughout the canal. Typically no less than 7-8 feet but usually in the 10-20ft range. Sorry you didn’t stop in Fairport
You skipped my lock in Newark 😢
Hope you made it out before the snows
Great Video !!
Question: Can you actually get pulled over for Speeding on The Erie Canal? Or is it pretty much on The "Honor System?"
Its Baldwinsville.... You're adding an s behind bald that shouldn't be there whenever you say it! 😂
Curious what the original pronunciation of Oneida lake was before you edited over it. Lol. Great vid. Thanks for posting!
Haha! That's awesome that you caught that. Something along the lines of "Ornido" 😂
Yeah I've noticed a little trouble with pronunciation with this guy for sure!😂
Just curious would it be more expensive to transport that boat by land with trailer ?
So their's no charge on that canal
Nice job Gus! How much did the coral coast? Happy birthday DAD

@@InTooDeepBro that's awesome. Thank you for responding. Love the vlogs
👍👍👍
Yoyoyo!
I was curious as to why some areas of the Canal have wake zones while most don’t?
I am not 100% Sure, but my guess would be that it has to do with a combination of residential zones with a lot of docks in the water, and also sections of the canal where they are trying to slow the erosion of the canal banks.
I’m sorry I’m sure you’ve said it how many gph at what speed and rpm is best cruise speed…. Please thank you

@@cptmariner Wow, you are right! I did not know that canal existed!
Hope he got Chinese!!!!!
Sold everything? Wtf did you own?

That's one way to do it, but the way I address them in this video is also appropriate.
Happy Birthday Dad!!
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!!!
