It's a monopoly 😂, and it's all about them and their union
Just another reason why Unions are a joke .. its not the 1890's folks , wise up..
bullcrap
this is about killing 9000 fairly decent jobs and taking 2 billion dollars a year from the province to hand it out to his very wealthy friends.
thats what this is about
pc have been trying to do this for over 3 decades
this could be mr fords demise
I love how the price of beer and wine went down when they started selling it in grocery stores . Speaking of monopoly , who was foung guilty of price fixing and gouging us during the pandemic ? It wouldn't be the grocery stores would it , they love us , they care about us , deeply .
LCBO is done. They decided to put the people in between themselves and their employer. They are a public service. I will never give them my money again. Good luck at the unemployment line.
We want freedom to buy alcohol, not buy only lcbo. Overpriced and over taxes.
LCBO s should have been shut years ago. Followed by the beer store.
Actually the LCBO stores and the beer stores offer a bigger selection than grocery and corner stores can, privatizing the LCBO would be better.
NO. They are good paying union jobs which cons hate because they love their poorly paid slave labourers. Con voters are tra*tors to democracy and Canada
LCBO is government (Ontario) owned. Beer Store is owned by foreign breweries.
@@kenlompart9905 But isn't that only because of their privileged position? If other stores can sell liquor, what's preventing some of them from stocking the same things?
@@kuruptzZz Simple, grocery and variety stores have limited space which is why I think they should also privatize LCBO stores. Just compare the selection of beer in grocery stores to the selection in beer stores, big difference.
Way to go Doug, don't back down. You have my support!
September of '93 Alberta privatized all liquor sales . Best thing ever ; prices went down and longer hours open !.
Pay went down too now they only pay minimum wage. Beer store and LCBO and good paying union jobs.
@@bonbonvegabonnot anymore
Also remember the standing in line outside the government liquor store during the Christmas season.
Long distance memories now in Alberta!
Free Palestine
@@Jenna-Tailya Free the Italians!
Let the private sector sell all type of alcohol and get rid of the LCBO stores.
Like the rest of the world.
And privatize the LCBO.
@@kenlompart9905 NO. Those are good paying union jobs
Not only are these jobs decent, they support EVERY community in Ontario! Also, the profits from alcohol sales are used to support Ontario's education, and healthcare.......this is absurd!
So you want people to lose their jobs? Wow!!
@@chrishogan8125 Been going to the LCBO for 65 years. Never experienced bad vibes. Now the lefties show up and cause problems. It's always like that with the teachers and it was years ago with the post office.
Everyone keeps saying the LCBO makes all this money. If purchasing was easier, because it is everywhere, the revenue will increase because they generate money through taxes. The province will generate the same revenue because they will collect taxes off of every sale. If the province phased out all the lcbo stores, they would generate more revenue, because they wouldn’t have wages, or benefits to pay out.
LCBO should be abanded - make it privatized like in USA - cheaper prices 😊
EXACTLY!!!
True, but it means 2.5b tax hike for the taxpayers if we didnt have LCBO profits
Wrong taxes will still be collected on the sale of liquor just no union dues
@@JoachimwGermain-co4zw Thats not how it works though. Alcohol tax will still apply, but the PROFIT that is made at LCBO (because its government) goes into government revenue for healthcare and education. The corner store profit goes into their own pocket.
@@garrethikes you do understand that private companies pay taxes on profits . Now the Ontario tax payers don’t have to fund a monopoly that spends money without regard enriching unions and lease holders !!!
In the states not only beer in gas stations some even serve food burgers and fries.. IM IN...
In Japan you can buy alcohol from vending machines. You should try that.
How do they keep under age kids from buying it?
@@kenlompart9905 ID scanners
Japanese here.. you can buy alcohol at any convivence store too, pretty much 24/7 .. its not a big issue here. For those that are concerned about underage drinking, stores do request ID and the vending machines are usually shutdown by 11pm. Some areas of Japan require you have a special card to by tabaco and alcohol from a vending machine to help with this problem. But lets be honest, kids are smart!
@@marymarr3 What about it?
@@CheekyBird790it is like the new lottery ticket terminals in some stores. You have to swipe your driver’s license or Ontario Photo ID card I think before you can make purchases and pay.
We should just cancel LCBO. I'm not a fan of ford, but he is correct here. Lack of choice is never a good thing
Why do we NEED alcohol in convenience stores? Do you understand how much money the LCBO generates for provincial wellbeing? Ford wants money to go into private pockets.
@@lynnbelchior1024 That's like asking why do we need drive thrus. It's called convenience. It's right there in the name buddy.
Not "I got to LCBO at 6:01pm on a sunday, and they are closed...so now I can't get liquor anywhere in my city". Or "It's a long weekend, so I'll have to go wait in a huge line for alcohol, because I have no choice". Or "I work during LCBO's hours, so I'm screwed unless I choose buying booze over sleeping". It's just silly to be limited like this in 2024
Waaaaaah i can't buy booze .... LCBO and beer stores are archaic and a waste of time and money .. government pension for what ? cash registering booze ? give me a break and stop wasting adults time ..
For this one here, he's for the people. No other country has this
end the middleman LCBO and open the free market
Yeah, look how well that worked for EVERY other commodity that the government used to own eh!? Especially energy right..!? What a great deal that turned out to be......ppppppfffffttttttt
Do yourself a favour and find yourself a local distillery!
LCBO is not the problem the problem is the greedy union representing the hard working employees
So I read alot of comments saying to privatize. I hope they like higher taxes to make up the difference.
In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the LCBO generated roughly $2.5 billion in revenue for the province's coffers, a substantial portion of which is spent on key public services like health care and education.
I don’t know why Canadians put up with the exorbitant taxes on alcohol, ridiculously high. $15 US for a 60 oz in Central America.
I used to work at the LCBO and most of the staff there were making $30 an hour just to stock shelves and work the cash register. Glorified Dollarstore employees that sell alcohol 😂
It's kind of amusing to watch this when you spend half your year as a snowbird in other jurisdictions. It's a non-issue!
Where one goes to the grocery store/corner store picks up some milk and beer or wine at the same time!
I mean Walmart sells beer also
Just fire them all, and privatize alcohol sales. This is ridiculous.
Bro they will never do that because they will all be eligible for severance and then EI which at the end of the day are funded by all taxpayers.😂😂
@@Sam19509for 9000 workers that’s nothing in EI and severance payments. Like a mosquito compared to how much they spend anyways. They won’t do that because a) they are on strike and to fire them for freedom of expression is a violation of the human rights code and b) because alcohol is highly regulated and Ontario is the most regulated province in Canada, there is no way they would want to lose that regulatory standard which also brings them tons of money annually, those are 9000 replaceable individuals and out of all of them only a handful will leave, which I doubt cause they are unionized and probably don’t want to leave that
@@BJJmaestro the union already pressure the LCBO not to do self-checkout like grocery stores. It would have saved the company millions because all they would have to do is install high quality security cameras and a physical security guard which is a lot cheaper than redundant LCBO cashiers making like $40/hr to ring purchases through.
@@Sam19509 it’s mostly regulatory, they want to maintain control of alcohol sales and they can’t do that if their retail model dies. Due to demand and I’m sure some gain to stake holders in association to Ford, he has pushed his campaign for more access to alcohol, but in reality it is their retail model that brings them the highest number of sales, but it is an old model and just like our neighbours, the US, we need to be able to access alcohol freely, so it’s quite the conundrum. These workers obviously are not doing gods work, but they are people with bills and homes and I’m sure mouths to feed so I can understand, but their personal needs don’t supersede the needs of all in conjunction to the access of an item in a free market place; that’s the true essence of capitalism, a truly free market
@@budz769 lol again you show you’re not the brightest. If you were Canadian you’d know they can’t fire them
I still like the selections, but the prices for buzz are 'stratospheric" at the LCBO, also I'm not inclined to support anything local in Ontario, like the so called "artisanal breweries" or "craft beer" or the local wineries because their "insane" prices, Ford should regulate this, or help the producers reduce costs
**THANK YOU FORD !!!! **....STOP THIS LCBO CURRUPTION....PLEASE GET THINGS PRIVATE ....ASAP ( WE HAVE CLOWNS ON BT)
Good for the strike, now all those calories won’t be in system, I’ll feel great ,looking thin again my skin will be clean again. Alcohol is bad for my health, I don’t need it to survive.
The person who wrote the video title clearly had access to LCBO.
Hopefully they strike themselves out of a job!! Doubt Ford has the balls though to end it.
WHO CARES!! Let the convenience stores, gas stations and grocery stores have there time…..the employees have gotten super ENTITLED over the years
it was a limited amount of time before people on the internet put together a map of where alcohol is available. It's not like old people were all of a sudden going to use the internet and access Ford's video.
I support the LCBO employees. Why have all our governments over the last 35 years Done everything they can to destroy decent paying jobs with steady hours, and job security. These are the jobs that contribute to society and our social welfare network. Millions of low paying jobs with no security undermine the middle class which has been happening for over 30 years and only empower the wealthy. The LCBO is open 7 Days a week with long hours. Shame on the people crossing the picket lines if they truly had a choice. I’m so sick of our provincial and federal government destroying the middle class which today is many trades people and professionals. Im not even sure people who work at LCBO even have a secure life.
Totally for the rich padrinos (friends) of Ford.
DISMANTLE THE LCBO - IT"S GOTTA GO!!!!
Time to disrupt the monopoly and become like every other province and/or country in Europe. Completely absurd it's 2024.
Thank you. Mr. Ford helping small businesses and their communities Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
The Struggle Continues
How did these clowns ever elect Doug Ford. His brother Rob was good but Doug no
Deplorable.
The options are EMPTY of ALL the popular products. Save yourself the trip because all they have is a promise one day a truck will come to replenish the store.
Get rid of the LCBO and open sales to the free market. The Beer store is next. This is what the people want.
Shut LCBOs down permanently, get with the times, privatization like Alberta already.
Not worth it anymore
All this strike is going to do is pass of people and show them there are other options. Close the LCBO, unskilled cashiers normally do not get paid $40.00 per hour or more with benefits.
Screw the lcbo
R.i.Pieces LCBO…. 😂
Homemade wine is way cheaper and has no garbage preservatives
Love Doug ford. Omg unions are NDP not conservative
Poor little whiny union babies, lock the doors permanently, make Ontario great again.
Con voters are tra!tors. The con party wants to get rid of all good union jobs so they only have to pay minimum wage.
Doug Ford - Make union dues optional + advocate for universal tariffs.
Just go somewhere else. Why you need booze from lcbo?
I'm not an alcoholic soooooo.... growing up, my parents ALWAYS had liquor bottles in our home. They never would buy a bottle and just DRINK it right away lol. It always sat, incase people came over etc, this is late 80s early 90s... so I could never understand how/why people buy/bought bottles day in day out and just drank them in one sitting. Till this day, I have bottles from the late 70s early 80s , 90s and 2000s ... I have those little miniature bottles they used to collect, some that are probably not even being made anymore.
I have one in a bottle called "Pinch" and the shape of the bottle alone .. (ha) ..
Can I open my own LCBO while these guys are on strike and sell for my own prices? ... Idk... I'm not going to..but ... if I was ... could I ? loooool! I drank as a teenager, but it was never for me... I hated the feeling of being sloppy drunk ..
most i'd consume now is a beer.. and that's maybe ONCE a year :( ... liquor just isn't for me , but I have TONS of it .. (for no reason) .. I don't even have guest (friends) like my parents did :( ... can I just pour it down the drain if my LCBO idea isn't allowed?
Dougie is for the people. You’re upset because he’s not for you 3000 people causing a disturbance to the rest of Ontario. Get rid of the LCBO and its union with labour strikes every few years.
If you look online you can find maps and lists of places to get your booze. Let the LCBO stand around in the heat with a dumb little sign. There’s other ways to
LCBO is no longer necessary as you Independant wine and cider and beer stores all over the province. as long as you have those 3 items hard liquor doesn't really matter. And still there's independent outlets that sale Liquor's and other hard drinks
Can't wait till every LCBO store closes.
Fords Got My Vote, to the lady that says he isn’t for the people, i think giving people an interactive map during you’re strike shows that he is for the people cause that sure helps us find Alcohol while you people be greedy Cashiers.
She’s as useless as tits on a bull.
Perfect. Get rid of the LCBO and privatize all the alcohol
Sorry LCBO is only for the rich. Ford helping the small business I agree with Ford.
Good let's hope all talks devolve and they just close up shop.
Stop the monopoly
And Doug Ford will continue with his "don't force my hand" rhetoric. It was his Government's decision to proceed with changes in liquor distribution. Quit wimping out, end the LCBO, and GET MOVING!!
These things take an incredible amount of time, legal processes, complex issues, "bureaucracy".
He doesn't have the balls to end it.
CTV is great at asking the union and the government.. chat to the people... There is not a lot of people out there on the side of the LCBO. I guess first the they would have to be un biased....
Hmmm… maybe hit the gym instead of streets? 🤔
Ontario needs to accept Margret Thatcher as it's lord and saviour. PRIVATIZE IT.
Better for Health
Maybe the government should not have their finger in all the pies! True socialism is alive and well in Ontario.
What people do not see is how the LCBO supports communities and workers get a living wage. How does a corner store do that and will they care? Ford is not for the people.
Unions are not for the people either, in fact they often play a role in screwing the rest of the country over when they collaborate and endorse govt BS too.
ontario should not rely on booze sales to subsidize education and health care... enough is enough. stop gate keeping ontarians, this is the only place in the world where they treat us like fucking children
LCBO rakes in 7 billion in sales, out of that 7 billion, 2.5 billion goes back to the province, the other 4.5 billion pays that bloated bureaucracy!!
LCBO is actually profitable. We should keep it but end the union.
Government rakes in $7 billion from the lcbo and $4.5 of that goes back into that bureaucracy while only $2.5 billion goes back to the province. Just get rid of it!!
@@terrenceabate1116 sooooo your argument is dissolve the LCBO because-its only making 2,billion for the province….ummmm ok.
@@Andrico77 no retard, I am saying that getting rid of that bureaucracy would mean more revenue for the province. Shouldn't you be out picketing for your $39 per hour cashier job?
Goodbye LCBO and good riddance.
Get rid of Doug, I support the workers. Make sure they are taken care of and end this. Like the LCBO worker on the picket line said, Doug is not for the people, ever! We already have the LCBO infrastructure, what a waste to decide to open it up to the private sector. Just a bunch of lost jobs that will not be replaced. Grocery stores and convenient stores will sell it and they already exist. The workers who are then laid off have less money to spend and the economy loses. We should find more practical ways to integrate the LCBO with private options if that's really what folks want.
Stop gas lighting the situation. LCBO isn't needed and the infrastructure has been paid for long time ago and can be sold in pieces for profit
Unions are NOT for the people either.
Actually choice is always a good thing for the people, as in us consumers. And a monopoly is always a bad thing. They had their heyday...now get with the times. This BS is laughable to anyone who lives in the US, where you can just grab some alcohol whenever and wherever you want
Yep let's support $4.5 billion going to feed that bloated bureaucracy when only $2.5 billion goes back to the province. Fuck all public sector unions!!
ship the jobs to China!
Privatize it and end the monopoly. Overpaid cashiers.
