Incredible video of the fishing in one of the world's greatest spots for it! I'm so thankful to be able to live here and experience what it has to offer on a regular basis. For those who don't live here, don't plan a trip to Australia without including Tassie! For a small island, it has such an incredible natural diversity.
Can't believe I am actually buying a place down there, this has made me even more excited. Perfect in every way! Right down to the catch & release. Plenty of fish to eat from the fish shop, leave these beautiful fish where they are.
I just can't say this enough, Todd, and his films are The Best, My Favorites and are Excellent in every aspect. This is no exception, once again I am as happy as I can be with out being on Todd's locations.👏👏👏👏🙏👍👍👍👍
Just wow! This is fly fishing p0rn!! Congrats to all involved. The photography is golden , the music is on point and as a biased fly fisherman this painted the beauty/romance of the experience so well. cant wait to get back to Tas in November!
Excellent in every single second ... another gem and true piece of art ... brings us such incredible views of nature, fish, world ... THANK YOU & BIG SALUT !!
Excellent as always. Makes you want to grab your gear and get out there. It's wonderful that you bring all these amazing fly fishing Nirvanas into my living room so Incan get to somewhat experience them. Even if only in my dreams.
They're not as big as I thought, but size doesn't matter all the time, yes the river bottoms are very much like Rotorua in New Zealand and the same sort of colour water - I'm not sure about aussie but other places in the country get emerald water from the surrounding beech forest and some go blue because of snow fall and others are just plain and clear, an example is the Taupo fishery especially the Tongariro river just plain clear water.
Another one of Todd Moen's amazing videos. I fished down there many times with my ex-wife's father who was also a fly fisherman. We saw all the wildlife: kangaroos, wallabies, achidnas, feral goats, Tasmanian devils, duckbilled platypus, and yes, the venomous snakes: Tiger snakes and Brown snakes.
Hi there! 99% of the time it's all business. I did not hold a rod on this trip at all. No fishing was had on this one even though it was a huge time commitment and a once in a lifetime location. It's work for me, I have a family that I need to take care of and if I put the camera down to fish, something amazing always happens which means I could potentially miss the shot of the trip. Not worth it. I've learned to love getting the take through the lens. Some people call me crazy. Maybe I am... its a great job, but it is work for me. Dealing with fish and work is not easy.
Joey, thanks for the answer. Not sure I got what you mean by blackfish (Girella tricuspidata? But it's not a freshwater fish), but this sounds like awful little. Are there species that were totally replaced by trout, or is it so that these rivers did not have large freshwter fish prior to the introduction of brown trout? Thanks again :) Edit: sorry, it appears the blackfish you were talking about are from the Gadopsis genus. It's a cool fish, never heard about it before. BTW, I'm asking this because it's weird to see brown and rainbow trout fished everywhere. I'm certainly not the one to judge, but imho if one goes across the planet to fish in the exotic waters and pays thousands of dollars for guiding alone, is it really a plus that (s)he finds the same darn trout there as (s)he would anywhere else or at home.. Anyways, at least it's summer there right now. Can't say much against that :)
You know, I see these people casting in a way that it looks like their fly is being dropped onto the water when I sturggle to keep my dry fly afloat when I cast.
Trout do not have a central nervous system like that of a mammal so they do not experience "pain" in the same sense!...and it was catch and release fishing so very ethical. So Vegan Vixen do you own a car or ride a bike? helplessly contributing to your carbon and petrochemical mayhem. Do onto to others......I'm sure nothing you own was made in china or hurt someone ever...do you live on a cloud and eat "aircakes"?
It's not a problem. Just like the giant eels with massive fangs that live in so many of the streams in NZ aren't a problem. Just have to be cautious of your surroundings.
Yep , Getting a bite has a few meanings fishing here in Tassie ..Fish , spiders , mosquito's and snakes. Awesome vid Todd.. I'm rejoining the trout fraternity as we speak ..
I fished in Tasmania many years ago and thought it had excellent fishing, until I fished in New Zealand. Anyone considering a long distance fly fishing trip from Europe or America I recommend you skip Oz and Tasmania and go straight to NZ. There simply is no comparison. The South Island is you can.
I live in Western Australia and regularly travel to both Tasmania and the south island of NZ to fly fish. They are both wonderful places to fish and I would not recommend one over the other.

I think you’ve outdone yourself with this video, Todd. The cinematography is out of this world and the fishing looks spectacular too. Well done!

Hi Todd, great footage and editing mate. Really captures the story of fishing in Tasmania. Love those small streams. Thanks for sharing, cheers, Craig
Thanks Craig!
What a great video. The fishing is only matched by the scenery, wildlife and the music soundtrack. In other words, perfect.
Great video! I wish I could just go there and look at this fantastic fish feeding on flies... 😁👍🍀

Great Job as always Todd.... Do you ever get a chance to fish when your shooting these films or is it all business?

Awesome
Can anyone tell what fish species dominated these streams before artificial introduction of brown trout? Are these fish still there? Thanks.

What kind of snakes are in the video?
Tiger Snake!
Good good
Cool bro)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. How would you feel if you were the one on the hook?
Trout do not have a central nervous system like that of a mammal so they do not experience "pain" in the same sense!...and it was catch and release fishing so very ethical. Must be great knowing you could encounter a snake with every cast....bugger that for a laugh! (I will stick with NZ thanks)
It's not a problem. Just like the giant eels with massive fangs that live in so many of the streams in NZ aren't a problem. Just have to be cautious of your surroundings.
CatchMagazine As far as I am aware there has never been a case of an eel killing a human, snakes on the other hand....
Never mind snakes...in Tasmania it's the killer ants you have to watch out for!
Yep , Getting a bite has a few meanings fishing here in Tassie ..Fish , spiders , mosquito's and snakes.
Awesome vid Todd.. I'm rejoining the trout fraternity as we speak ..
My backyard!.....
