Ningaloo Reef - The Great Barrier Reef - Australia Fly Fishing by Todd Moen

  • "Australia Coast to Coast" is T-Motion theater's longest and most in-depth fly fishing film to date, with a run time of more than 25 minutes. From Australia's Great Barrier Reef on the east coast to the Ningaloo Reef on the west coast, the angler on camera and UK fly fishing virtuoso Alex Jardine pursues more than 8 species of fish in various breathtaking land and waterscapes Down Under.
    From the Great Barrier Reef, Moen takes you along for red throat emperor and shark mackerel. From Australia's eastern shoreline, experience barramundi and mackerel tuna. Then from the country's northwestern bays and inlets, see golden trevally, cobia and the magnificent queenfish. With aerial shots above glistening coral reefs and gem-colored waters, this film will make you feel as though you've traveled the country on your own fly fishing adventure.
    The biggest challenge in filming and editing this video for Moen was synthesizing the huge quantity of information, diverse locations and variety of fish species caught on the fly in Australia. In addition, the precious time and energy he spent in transit pre-covid and away from his family to tour the country makes this one of Moen's sturdiest endeavors - both personally and professionally- in his career as a filmmaker. It's also one of his proudest.
    Thanks to the support from Dean Cooper at Tourism Australia, to Panasonic professional, and to the guides Luke Griffiths from Quest Angling Expeditions, Andrew Chorley from Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing, and Brett Wolf from Ningaloo Fly Fishing.

    Wow! Absolutely intriguing. Todd, your films are destined to become classics, on the same level as the Jacques Cousteau and Wild Kingdom series. Those shows were captivating and taught us so much about our wild world. You are the world ambassador of fly fishing. Thanks again for another great video.

    Guy released that cobia in the water…with the tiger sharks! Ballsy move. Produced beautiful shots, though. I appreciate what it took to plan, shoot, and produce this video.

    • @CatchMagazine
      @CatchMagazine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for this. Yeah, a ton of work for myself as the camera operator and also myself as the editor. Haha. Pretty funny actually.
      Story behind the cobia…
      As a camera operator, standing in a boat for two weeks is torture when it comes to capturing the big picture of what is happening on the water. All those destinations in this film I was stuck in the boat… so in this situation yes… tiger sharks close by. But we were in shallow water and the guide watched very closely as the sharks moved off and left the flat so we were able to jump in to get a good release of the fish. Not saying we were 100% safe but in very good hands with Brett Wolf and his expertise with when we could be in the water. Glad you noticed this. Most people don’t understand the time and effort it takes to knock out this type of production.

    Australia is definitely on my short list of tropical fishing destinations and that Ningaloo Reef looks amazing. Do you have any idea of where it fits as far as affordability? Christmas Island is an affordable trip for me. The Sechelles, not so much.

    • @Raevenswood
      @Raevenswood ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been researching both Kiribati and Australia and Australia seems fairly affordable. It is not quite as affordable as Christmas Island but definitely not ridiculously priced like the Seychelles. you'll spend less than half of a Seychelles trip from what I've been seeing. Search TH-cam for "fly fishing Wessel Islands". place looks pretty incredible and I saw they have a limited season for trips and only one or two companies have the rights to bring visitors there (it is aboriginal land) but the price is "only" 7500usd per week with 7 nights and 6 solid days of fishing. the place has two species of indo-pacific Permit, GT's, Golden Trevally, Blue Bastards, Queenfish, and more. A good friend of mine lived in Australia for 7 years and he said lots of people rent camper vans and just camp out and travel around exploring Australia so I think that's a possibility for a DIY fly fishing trip if you really want to cut cost. I guess it's not frowned upon for people to just pull over off the road and take a rest.
