      I agree. The boy can play and he seems very humble, friendly and genuine. Those that cap off on him are straight up jealous that they'll never be able to play 2 notes as fast or as sweet as JB. 2 notes. They'll never be able to do it.

    I love the fact that, not only is Joe an extraordinary guitarist and singer, but he really really knows his stuff. He knows about the history of his gear, the history of his influences and how everything that he uses, works. He also seems very appreciative of his band members and crew, which is nice. I do hope he was joking about ear loss as well. That will be a massive shame.

    • @michaelangeloh.5383
      @michaelangeloh.5383 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not joking if there's 120+ dBs kicking him in the ass. - I don't even know if he uses in-ears or any plugs... I'd guess not?... As he's such a purist. - Nah, no way, he should have something, or he'd be deaf for sure. - Either way, playing loud music, even being in noisy areas non-stop, will wear your hearing down. - People who go out among masses of people speaking loudly, they technically have worse hearing for it, even if they don't realize it. - But it doesn't help when you're getting older either.
      Some artists just stop doing band-gigs. Like Danny Elfman, he wants to prevent further hearing-loss by just not playing in bands anymore. Of course he's an orchestral composer and producer etc. and needs his hearing to be extra critical.
      Anyway, all these guys' hearing are going... I've heard the Metallica-guys complain about hearing-loss somewhere in the recent years, despite them having used in-ears since 1999. They claim they just stubbornly turn them up too much. Besides I heard a comment that "It's all those small rehearsal-spaces in the beginning.", which every kid musician goes through. - Noise aggravates the nerve-endings, and they can only take so much.

    • @timf7413
      @timf7413 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's known for favoring a loud stage volume and he doesn't use in ear monitors, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was suffering some hearing loss at his age and with the amount of time he's been playing live.

    I really like Joe. And I don't like too many musicians, especially guitar gods. He made a great point near the end which confirmed what I have always thought. Find your sound, tone, or sonic flavor and you can rule the world. I play a 2014 Gibson R8 straight through a Kustom 36 Coupe 2x10 combo at our local blues club and no pedals. I literally love my sound and so do the other players I play with. I'm not ruling the world like Joe, lol, but I really dig knowing who I am sonically and that I could play any small venue with anyone anywhere and turn people on. Thx Joe for being a great inspiration to me.

    Something I've noticed over the last five years or so is that the amount of hate (criticism is fine, but I mean actual hate; uncritical, bigoted insults and assumptions) on Joe in more or less any video has really dropped. It's like those idiots have either given up or finally decided Joe's paid his sufficient dues to stop complaining about him being better. Joe mentions those kind of people a lot in his rundown videos, so I'm glad that side of things is waning.

    I love the point he made at the end: it doesn't really come down to some magic gear to make you good. Once you reach 'middle of road' type stuff, like a 40w tube amp, it really is just you that holds back your sound at that point. Cant blame the lack of millions of dollars of equipment, you have to put your fingers to the frets and play.

    • @misterknightowlandco
      @misterknightowlandco 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice rig tour by Joe himself! Thanks Joe! Always interesting to see what gear the great artists use and how they use it. Towards the end Joe mentions that, in order to tighten the low end, he uses a TC chorus set in a subtle manner. Usually, with an amp that uses a tube rectifier, especially with a cranked high power tweed twin, the easy way to tighten the low frequencies is to use a solid state rectifier, a diode bridge, in place of the tube. A friend of mine, Rick Onslow, builds plug-in diode rectifiers in old tube sockets. So to go from a tube rectifier to a solid state rectifier, you simply have to pull the tube out and plug in the diode bridge. This really tightens up the low end and it sounds great.

    Four Twins cranked up behind ballistic glass is unfathomable, I play through a daisy chained fender twin and a dual professional amp, driving two Leslie cabinets, where most often, I'll just plug my 99 hard tail Stratocaster straight into the with twin no foot pedal effects included, though I do constantly utilize a fulltone tube tape delay unit in the effects loop, if I use a pedal at all it's a early 2 knob OD-1 Boss Overdrive pedal which is really my only effects pedal ever in my set up, that opens my amps up, though I do admittedly always have the fulltone tube tape delay units magic at least somewhat engaged, only occasionally adding in a Wah pedal, even though we are recently shunning pedals, championing unadulterated feel and natural guitar tone, I must at least mention here, for posterity that adding in a flanger to tape delay through rotary speakers is the holy trinity...LoL...8)

    thanks GuitarPoint - after 40 years of playing and more recently in an R&B band with 5-6 horns very nearby, custom earplugs (filters taking down Dbs), are always with me. drum kit, horns, and 129 Dbs behind the plexiglass - the human ear was not designed for that onslaught. The quietest place in the arena has to be at each musician's ears - put the rest out through the mains. Joe is such a fine acoustic player - half his set in that format is worth every cent of the ticket price. Retirement hunched over a guitar like Quasimodo ..... "oh the bells..." really?

    can someone please explain simply why the need for four amps that are all the same with the same settings, how would that create more headroom, wouldn't it just make it louder?
    and why does the audience only hear one twin, wouldn't it sound better to have them all coming through?

    • @dstfno
      @dstfno 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two amps are miced so he must be running in stereo. And headroom means being louder without additional gain, so if you can't switch to a higher wattage amp you must have more to be louder. And lastly it's all about the air that's being moved. The more speakers you have the more air you will be able to move and your sound will have more balls. It's only if you stand directly in front of it so micing them all isn't necessary.

    • @slevinhyde3212
      @slevinhyde3212 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well an amp alone isn't gonna make sound.
      You need a cab, it can be sticked to the amp in a combo as he has, or separate.
      for the most part there is no noticeable difference except for the fact that there is no 4x12 combos out there

      I may point out still that there are ways to get the sound from the amp straight into a "kinda" mixing table (dangerous operation without the right setup)
      And some don't even use an amp (check devin townsend's rig RD)

      The sound shields allow the amps to be turned up to very high volume without deafening the front row of the audience. Also, to prevent feedback through any stage mics located in front of the amps.
