      I never understood that. If, as most people who know American music and its history believe, Louis Armstrong was a genius it stands to reason he would have picked up classical music whether or not he had ever had a lesson in it would be quite beside the point. Of course then he would have, as was proper to his stature as a musician, taken over from the lead violinist and the pianist. Along with the conductor, of course. Who needs a conductor when you have Armstrong?

I can play Billy Joel songs, I can play Elton John songs, I can play Ben Folds songs. But I recently started listening to boogie woogie piano players and wanted to try and learn it to increase my ability to play rock and roll but for the life of me, I'm really struggling to learn it. • @mtdnelson
      @mtdnelson 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm guessing here, but this is a lot less likely to be learned by rote than the rest of the repertoire in this particular concert. It's probably more a case of learning boogie vocabulary and stringing ideas together.

    • @seanedward6734
      @seanedward6734 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      He actually can’t read music amazingly enough. In an interview once, he said he was never classically trained in piano. But one day he heard boogie woogie and fell in love and that’s all he ever wanted to play! He taught himself everything!!

    • @seanedward6734
      @seanedward6734 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mtdnelsonand yes in this particular case, this was his own piece called hot house boogie! And to your point of stringing ideas together, that is absolutely right! A lot of what you saw was improvised because he already knows the song so well!
