There are also a lot of places where baby girls can be placed in a box when the parents don’t want them. Many rural Indian places have only men and they go to the city and kidnap young girls and women and take them back to the village and make them their wives. I watched a doco about a poor woman who was already married with a family and she was kidnapped and forced into marriage to an Indian man on a farm. It is horrific in both China and India!

I was in Shanghai on a buy trip and we needed to catch a bus. Waiting for the bus I watched the children coming out of school, their Grandparent waiting for them. In the big group of children there were only 4 girls. I was shocked at the disparity.

During a visit to Beijing my guide said that at 30 he was not yet motivated to marry. But when he does the women shortage is not a problem for him. i'm in china. No one is being forced to get married. These rich women are busy fucking tall and young foreigner men. I was introduced to a 50 year old women and she didn't even look at me. I'm 40 and in good shape. Anyway, she thought had some young German guy meet up with us.
I wrote a paper about this in college in the early 90s. It was already evident at that time that there were far fewer girl babies being born and that it was not due to natural causes. I predicted “problems” when this unbalanced generation grew up but I didn’t know exactly what sort of problems. Now we are seeing.
The leftover women tend to be highly educated, good jobs, good salaries, good looking and are not looking to get married. Basically these ladies are on the top rung of society. Rural left over men tend to not have anything going for them, and may be considered to be on the bottom rung of society. It is hard to see these two groups marrying each other. They told me that where she lived in the countryside, couples left female babies to die in ditches by the roadside because they only wanted ONE male child. Many of these "unwanted" female Chinese babies have been adopted into foreign countries. As Japan also had issues with low birthrates, their prince (now king) needed to find his Japanese wife outside of Japan. Imbalance in the number of the sexes leads to social instability, something China cares a lot about. Especially when there's too many single men, which are inherently more likely to cause problems than too many single women.

I was in Shanghai on a buy trip and we needed to catch a bus. Waiting for the bus I watched the children coming out of school, their Grandparent waiting for them. In the big group of children there were only 4 girls. I was shocked at the disparity.
I lived opposite a primary school in Xinglin Xiamen, it was so noticeable and obvious the boys outnumbered the girls.

The leftover women tend to be highly educated, good jobs, good salaries, good looking and are not looking to get married. Basically these ladies are on the top rung of society. They told me that where she lived in the countryside, couples left female babies to die in ditches by the roadside because they only wanted ONE male child. Here’s the thing. In a war India will be able to be far more aggressive as it will be able to replace soldiers who are killed far more quickly then China can. For every Chinese soldier who buys it the PLA can’t replace them. This is cause they don’t have the population for it. In India you could throw a whole battalion of conscripts at the Chinese and you could have just as many conscripts the next day. Those PLA soldiers who got killed do not have more conscripts to replace them unless China wants to start drafting young boys and old men

It also renames some of it weapons to make it sound terrifying when they are actually outdated. the military does not even have any nationalism present in them, they are fighting for communist party of china, not china.

Being from a rural area, unemployed, financially unstable, making men undesirable? As someone who studied psychology for many years and had been in countless relationships and is together with a partner for decades despite being poor and from a rural area, I don't agree. I like the journalism but that particular remark that kind of said women are into money is a myth that had brainwashed men who grew up influenced by Rom-coms and Disney movies. Stop relying on money because women are really most attracted to behavior while men are attracted to appearance and I'm speaking from a scientific perspective.
I really think there is no issue with the one child policy. The issue is Asia's preference to having sons over daughters. China would be in a great position if families did not partake in female infanticide and accepted the first child they got. The population control would be successful and gender ratio would be just fine.

Parents who had a single girl invested so much in her a boy and wouldnt want them to marry a lesser status man, and they are right.
There are plenty of less educated men with less financial resources and these women are doing better by themselves and providing for their parents but i noticed a shift and couples starting to have kids in their 40s. Also a lot of demand for surrogate mothers because "older" women don't want to damage their body and health to have a child.
