I can answer the 1225 whistle thing. The Polar Express was directed by Robert Zimekis who also directed the back to the future films. Back to the future part III features sierra no. 3 a 19th-century steam locomotive owned and preserved at Railtown 1897 The Whistle in the polar express is sierra no. 3 and not the 1225 because Zemekis preferred it. That’s all. You can briefly hear 1225s whistle when hero boys radiator blows steam while the polar express arrives on his street. The Polar Express features a reference to BTTF:3 when the hero boy blows the whistle “I’ve wanted to do that my whole life!” Same line Doc brown says in the film. Lionel’s model uses 1225s whistle because they are models of the 1225 adapted to only look like the polar express. Not be strictly 100% accurate polar express models.

I love the way you described interaction with your nephews. When I started collecting, I decided I wanted my grandkids to play with no limits. Hi Chris my name is Mark Ranzie I do the Lionel drag races for the Metropolitan Train Collectors Association division of the Train Collectors association . I created a scale two lane quarter mile drag race track and let me tell it has been widely popular amongst the lil guys and the big kids at our New York City train show. Maybe one day we can compete in a drag race and do a video of us racing on the track . I built two engine for those who do not have a train to race , but I do have one of my own that is still in challenged lolol . Keep up the great work and the great videos !
My first wind-up train as a 5 yr old was a Hafner - I'm unable to find the set - black tender, green gondola, white milk car + caboose - 75 years ago! Your shows are excellent!!! Thanks for all you do and share!!!

Ah this is what I get for replying late at night! Must have been looking at two comments at the same time! But yes, MTH did make some British Engines. Hard to find though! Thanks for watching @Port Huron & Sodor Railway Productions!
MTH British, French, and German engines are a bit thin on the ground here. I'm sure they're out there somewhere but I've never seen any in the shops and shows I go to. Whether that's due to lack of demand or lack of supply is anyone's guess.
Thanks for taking the time once again to connect with your fans on a personal level, Chris. If you're looking to get an iconic British loco, I can think of none better than the LNER A4 'Mallard' (already mentioned)! It's a true record holder and enjoys a great pedigree in the history of railroading. You have a fantastic collection and layout. Always glad to see it and listen to you talk about the fun you have running it and planning for additions.
Thanks Tom! The Mallard would be a cornerstone of the collection. I do not even know where to find one or if one was ever made for 3-rail O Scale. Gonna need to search! Thanks again for your support

I'll tell you (and everyone else) something, if traction tires wear out on my engines that have them and the engine doesn't miss them I just leave them off! Awesome video great share layout looks great 👍🏻 Thanks for the Q&A review lol we always say that is the wife watch to answer those loaded questions. How many train do you have 😂😂🤣🤣
Great video, Chris, glad to see you are back! The layout is really looking good. People certainly are really getting excited about the Strasburg #90 and it will be fun seeing it on your layout. I'm getting excited about the new Lionel catalog hopefully coming out soon! Bill B.
Chris I really enjoy your videos and your style of presenting. This was another of your entertaining videos. They are the best O gauge model train videos on You Tube. You purchase the finest O gauge trains under the sun. But I hope you can appreciate that most people can not afford to spend thousands, maybe tens of thousands every year on trains as much as they wish they could. None of our business how you afford it and there's nothing you can do about it either. I just hope that you keep that in mind. Maybe you do. Keep up the great work and have a great year!

Thanks for watching, haha! Without writing a paragraph here, my only advice is to not be afraid to cut things out. Less can be more in most cases. Have fun!
Another fun video, Chris. Thanks. That Strasburg combi car looks great. Someday. Was at Nicholas Smith years ago and got the maroon and ketchup sets, and passed on the yellow and green ones. Kicking myself for that now...
Got my dad the MTH primo 4438 daylight. He loves it. Can't wait for him to have a place to set it up. I'd love to have an MTH primo PS-4 Southern. I LOVE steamers, and that green color is to die for.

It also prevents little hands from being in the rails when my nephews come over to visit during the winter. Got to keep the little ones safe.
I'd love to see it restored to operation myself, but at the risk of being a wet blanket where could they run it? CSX won't allow any antique railroad equipment on their lines and at the moment neither will Norfolk-Southern. Until things change dramatically it doesn't make sense to restore the Yellowbelly (I've also heard it called "The Big Banana") just to have it crawl around museum trackage. Still, we can hope. Whoever thought we'd see a "Big Boy" run again?

2:10 looks like almost the same train set my dad got me for Christmas when I was 5 or so. I didn't even ask for a train; it was there when I got up Christmas morning I remember that same caboose and the blue box car. Same bridge, too, only the bridge was a silver metal rather than black. And the same big clunky switch mechanism with the green and red plastic bubble that popped up. If your train had a flat car and a steam engine, it would be the exact same set.
My dad got me into the hobby too. When I was around 10 years old I was gifted an HO stater set it included the GP15 diesel locomotive and four rolling stock. Ever since then I’ve been a fan of HO modes I did N for a while but for me I found it a little small to work on and went back to HO and I’m happy with HO.
You have Milwaukee Road AND Chicago Northwestern engines? WOO HOO I'm glad to know I am covered! BUT, I'd like to see a video with both of those running together! Your train room is far cleaner than mine.
Always a treat when I see you in my notifications and a new video to enjoy…every 2-3 weeks lol 🥴 I can’t wait to see you do a layout tour where everything is neat and tidy for the camera, while you go in depth of the horrors that the redesign caused, like how many concussions have you suffered trying to get under the layout. I imagine you waking up under a different area wondering where you are and how Thomas is staring at you with that mischievous grin for not picking him 😉
waiting for a CSX boxcar in ho i bought off amazon, and got wheels and a ho scale up caboose, also bought off amazon, both arrived on same day despite originally going to arrive all on different days, boxcar ain't come yet but will be arriving in time to be run at the eastern states expositions train show in my state
Hey Chris! Happy New Year. Great first video of 2023!! The New York Central is my favorite railroad as well followed by the Pennsylvania and Santa Fe. The Santa Fe F3 is my favorite post war diesel locomotive. I have several in my collection!
Those CSX engines you have are some of my favorite road engines out there on the high iron. CSX runs through my state on the old New York Central water-level route trackage, and just seeing CSX engines whether it be in model form or the real thing is always a sight to see. I'd love to see more CSX on the channel at some point, keep these vids coming! ^^
Great start to 2023 with another wonderful episode, Chris 👍 Loved the behind the scenes views of the overall room and layout, and nice job dodging controversial favorite engine questions 😆 I like them all, thank you!
Even though I'm a year late to the party all I have to say is that if you were to get any British engine get devious diesel from the Thomas and friends line by lionel it's very easy to modify him to just be a normal engine you just have to take off the face and fill/cover where it used to be
Good video, I am getting ready to start my new layout in my BARn. I have a nice Bar in my barn and going to put my O gauge trains in there too. I have watched you and Jason put some nice things together. Any advice ?
Sounds like you will have a great setup in the barn! Not sure what type of trains your are running, or track your using, etc but you are going to have a great spot to hang out and run trains.
Just found this channel while looking for a good O scale starter set. Been into HO for the last few years... but I have a bunch of 30+ year old Lionel engines/cars from my childhood. My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in July... so naturally, I already have a shelf layout in the process 😁 Love your content... been binge watching all day!
FYI, Chris: As far as production is concerned, the LNER A4 Mallard Pacific type British steam loco is made by ACE. Not sure of the price or if it's available on the second hand market in North America, but I know their still producing. They make both French and British 3 rail O scale locos and passenger coaches. Hope this helps if you're interested. Cheers!
Happy New Year you are one of the best TH-camrs out there. You're funny very knowledgeable you post as much as you can I'm sure and did I tell you you were funny thank you for posting when you can Happy New Year looking forward to new videos hope you had an excellent holiday with your family and friends thank you again Victor from New Jersey see you at York
I like all of the different types of trains you have and all. I do not remember if I asked you Chris if you have a 3985 Challenger steam engine or not, but that is the one I am use to seeing and also the 844 big boy.
Fun video man!!!! Nice catch! Yea O Scale is my favorite Scale. Awesome Layout! I blame my dad too. I'm building a Modular HO Scale Layout because of room but like what you did I got fasttrack that I put up in the living room to play with trains with my son. KUTGW brother!
At least the "how many" question was to something specific. Usually it's "how many _trains_ do you have?", a question that seems to assume train collectors/operators only acquire equipment in the form of boxed sets and never vary or intermix their consists, which is "oh so _not_ how that works" if you're in the know. And the thing about boxes...Oh the struggle. I find myself in the position of having to create _more_ of them after winning a pair of lots in a Cabin Fever auction that netted me _twelve_ K-Line aluminum tankers...all without original boxes. They're currently "parked" on the back of a couch cause they're too tall for BCW boxes. I now have to figure out a box design that I can repeat a dozen times that will secure them without too much bulk.
This was a magical Christmas! if you watch the episode, The Christmas Tree Express, Toby takes Rheneas to Misty Island to find a perfect tree for Christmas thanks to Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand. And at the Blue Mountain Quarry, Rusty and Skarloey react to the tree. I wonder which of your three daughters got the Lionel o gauge Hiawatha. I also don't know your wife's name Chris. Lionel's 2023 volume 1 catalog comes out on the 12th! Get ready! Ka-chow!
Have you ever thought about adding some British trains into your collection? It would be really cool to have LNER A4s or an LSWR 415 class next to those huge american duplexes.
Chris, great video, you answered a lot of questions. I have one more question, what do you do with the boxes? I see that Eric rented a storage bin which he has overgrown. Do you use an outside storage locker?
I had to get serious about storage a while back, so now what I do is save engine boxes and set boxes. Boxes the new articles like freight cars come in go into the recycle bin. That doesn't concern me, by the time they'd be worth any serious money with the boxes I'll be dead!
Hi Chris. If you want a British engine, I think the Hogwarts Express is a nice engine. It is a Great Western Railway 4900 Class or Hall Class and is a class of 4-6-0 mixed-traffic steam locomotive. I bought the Lionel Lionchief version of this engine, and it is pretty nice.
Hi Chris, I have just made a brand new engine with a plow on the front and the cab on the back and 8 wheels that swivel to navigate the curves. I'm also going to add a fuel tank between the bogies to make it look better and more reliable meaning it will be more stable on the curves and the bumps in the tracks. I almost forgot to recommend getting rocks for the trains that have more engines than they need for the engines to use their strength. What I mean is if the trains have 2 engines for 5 cars, they would be overpowering the trains and I think they would look better if the cars just had the power they needed. I am not telling you what to do, I am just telling you my opinion. When I watch videos about trains, and they are pulling 50 cars behind 2 engines with 4,400 h.p. each which can haul 127 cars with 1 engine. I end up saying, "IF YOU HAVE 2 ENGINES, YOU NEED TO HAVE 254 CARS!!!!!! I hate it when they have a bunch of engines for a small train that a tiny engine can haul. If they need that much power, why not just make an 8,800 h.p. engine for a 50 car train. It is just a pet peeve of mine. Cory Mears
Speaking of Challenger locomotives. I really would love to find a Denver Rio grande Challenger in Russian black paint. Number 3805 from Lionel had some unique cab voices. It came right before the chip board switch to the extra legacy features
I have a 675 I recently bought at a comic book store near by me and I'm gonna order parts for it. It does run tho. Just missing some parts. Got the tender with it.
As usual good video. This year I am moving. New place is going to be heavy on O gauge layout. In fact, a 600 square foot living space and about 1200 of trains is perfect. Can you tell I live alone! Now my favorite engine is my Pennsy K4 MTH Premier but the T-1 Duplex Proto 3 set I just got from Trainz may take its place. I like my E6 Santa Fe's too. Then my circus train is also cool. Hell I like them all even the dead ones.
I need to add some more cars to make that train longer. That 844 is a beast of an engine and needs to drag more than 4 cars! Works for now :) Thanks for watching!
Switches do add so much to a layout. If I wasn't doing these videos, I probably would have at least put a crossover or something on those upper lines. Sometimes my layout feels more like a TV Set than a layout, haha!
Clean trains are happy trains!
I WAS FIRST!!
Yes they are!
I model in H.O. and N scale. As far as clean trains...I keep my trains dust free but, they are all weathered to some degree.

Ever since then I’ve been a fan of HO modes I did N for a while but for me I found it a little small to work on and went back to HO and I’m happy with HO.
i love your layout, if i was not so deep into n scale ,watch out o scale here i come thanks for posting and sharing ,
Yes we need the Pet Shop Express on Norm's turntable
And we will most definitely do this. I have already warned him. Next time I visit, this engine is joining me :)
You have Milwaukee Road AND Chicago Northwestern engines? WOO HOO I'm glad to know I am covered! BUT, I'd like to see a video with both of those running together! Your train room is far cleaner than mine.
Thanks Chris, always fun and entertaining
Thanks Kyle!
6:09 Yeah. Sometime in 2026 when they're finally in stock along with the DCS Explorer.
Haha! Should be here this year :)
I imagine you waking up under a different area wondering where you are and how Thomas is staring at you with that mischievous grin for not picking him 😉
LOL! Pretty sure I do have concussions. If it is not already apparent I do bump my head on the table all the time! Happy New Year to ya!
waiting for a CSX boxcar in ho i bought off amazon, and got wheels and a ho scale up caboose, also bought off amazon, both arrived on same day despite originally going to arrive all on different days, boxcar ain't come yet but will be arriving in time to be run at the eastern states expositions train show in my state
Enjoy those new trains!
Hey Chris! Happy New Year. Great first video of 2023!! The New York Central is my favorite railroad as well followed by the Pennsylvania and Santa Fe. The Santa Fe F3 is my favorite post war diesel locomotive. I have several in my collection!
Looking to see more videos. Happy New Year
Happy New Year! More vids on the way
Those CSX engines you have are some of my favorite road engines out there on the high iron. CSX runs through my state on the old New York Central water-level route trackage, and just seeing CSX engines whether it be in model form or the real thing is always a sight to see. I'd love to see more CSX on the channel at some point, keep these vids coming! ^^
Right on! I need to find a GEVO to add to the CSX lashup at some point. Thanks for watching!
7:06 MALLARD
Bruh I was thinking about that😂
Great start to 2023 with another wonderful episode, Chris 👍 Loved the behind the scenes views of the overall room and layout, and nice job dodging controversial favorite engine questions 😆 I like them all, thank you!
Even though I'm a year late to the party all I have to say is that if you were to get any British engine get devious diesel from the Thomas and friends line by lionel it's very easy to modify him to just be a normal engine you just have to take off the face and fill/cover where it used to be
The blond guy with his blood hound dog waving at the passing locomotive is a great touch!😂
I'm looking forward to Lionel's SRC 89 and Broadway Limited's Pennsylvania Q2.
Just found this channel while looking for a good O scale starter set. Been into HO for the last few years... but I have a bunch of 30+ year old Lionel engines/cars from my childhood. My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in July... so naturally, I already have a shelf layout in the process 😁
Love your content... been binge watching all day!
Cheers!
Thank you! Looks like these are really difficult to find...
Good video Chris, Good questions well most of them. Good luck and happy new year to you and your family.
Thanks David! I have to hold my breath as the questions come in but these were all good!
Happy new year!
I like all of the different types of trains you have and all. I do not remember if I asked you Chris if you have a 3985 Challenger steam engine or not, but that is the one I am use to seeing and also the 844 big boy.
Man! You've got an original MKT 6464, Alaska 6464 and an Erie bay window caboose. Very cool!
Train box storage is a pain! I agree. Thanks for watching
Get ready! Ka-chow!
Looking forward to the catalog! I have seen The Christmas Tree Express episode and it's a great one. My middle Daughter got the train. She loves it!
Addie got her new Hiawatha? Looks like her wish came true. As Ferdinand always says, That's right!
Have you ever thought about adding some British trains into your collection? It would be really cool to have LNER A4s or an LSWR 415 class next to those huge american duplexes.
have a Question: who authorized the construction of that massive brick fire place behind your layout. Just asking...
Haha! That was there when we moved in years ago. It was capped though.
Ever thought of diving into L-gauge trains?
Currently working on a Mountain 4-8-2 and Schnabel car builds and they seem comparable to O-gauge in size.
Chris, great video, you answered a lot of questions. I have one more question, what do you do with the boxes? I see that Eric rented a storage bin which he has overgrown. Do you use an outside storage locker?
The Boxes are stuffed in various storage areas in my house. The amount of room these things consume is staggering!
I bought the Lionel Lionchief version of this engine, and it is pretty nice.
my first train set was a sears marx all state nyc steam freight set and im still partial to o gauge!
For the first English engine you should buy the garrat it’s a really unique engine
All I gotta say is a nice variety of trains and always great to see the Super Chief ;-)
I saw the new Lionel Santa Fe steam engines and they are tempting!
Great video Chris. Pretty interesting and fun.
Cory Mears
7:17 ofcourse! the flying scotsman - lner4472 or br60103... He also visited america from 1969-72!
The best british one I should say!
Sounds like an epic train room in the works!
9:03 "is my wife here" 😂 funniest line in the video
love to see 844 with the UP cars in front
I need to add some more cars to make that train longer. That 844 is a beast of an engine and needs to drag more than 4 cars! Works for now :) Thanks for watching!
3:28 usually at what ever age it's usually the parents that get people into it
Did you make your own wall display shelves? if no, where can I get those from? Huge fan of your work right here.
Its fun to watch but for me a layout is more thant running trains around.switching is the rule for me since 1976
Switches do add so much to a layout. If I wasn't doing these videos, I probably would have at least put a crossover or something on those upper lines. Sometimes my layout feels more like a TV Set than a layout, haha!
I have replaced a traction tire on one of my locomotives, i have a train layout its a 4x8 on casters its a outer passing loop
Thank you, always enjoyable, entertaining, and a great learning experience...
Thank you Neil! Hope to see your trains running soon
I think at the end of every video you should give like a top tip or something small that everybody can do to improve their experience. Just a thought.
I should try that. Great idea! Not sure how helpful my tips will be given the level of the other model railroaders out there but I will try
What’s your least favorite engine in the collection?
