Labrador Park Jetty Fishing | Needlefish as BAIT?

  • Welcome back to another episode of Jives Fishing! Today we are back at Labrador Jetty for a short fishing session as we heard that the selar season was in and hopefully the big fishes were in. We managed to catch some big pufferfishes and lost a big take on our handline, and even tried using needlefish (todak) as bait for big game! Enjoy!

    Hi guys! Do let us know if you caught anything using todak before. Also, do note that we cut the line away as close as possible to the puffer’s mouth as the hook was deep in and attempting to remove it by force will injure it. The hook may rust away in time.

      I fillet it and use as bait for todak. It works as well. There was once I cut it up the size of a ice cube and load it far out. There was a take but no hook up. There was an idea that I have with the filleted meat. Marinate it with some bait scent and use it for Surf. But not able to do it yet. Maybe u can try.
      Guys maybe u can try cockles next as bait. I wonder what fish would take it.

    Is there any other ways of avoiding hooks being swallowed. The hooks may rust but it definitely contaminate the fish and harm the fish either ways. This must be a reason why so many reservoirs banned baiting

    • @JivesFishing
      @JivesFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to avoid hook getting swallowed to our knowledge. Otherwise barbless hook could be an alternative ba.

    • @sleepyheadz
      @sleepyheadz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JivesFishing You can try circle hooks to minimize gut hooking. That will also means you'll need to restrain from setting the hookup and it requires discipline cos most time we like to tarik! lol

      @@JivesFishing Actually that might better suit your type of fishing since you put out multiple rods and don't really set your hook when the fish take the bait.

    You cut the handline of the 2 Poor Puffer Fishes with the Hook Embedded in their Mouths and
    Candidly " release " them .
    How do yoy expect them to survive this Profound Tragedy of eventually suffering a slow and painful death ?
    This IS A Most Irresponsible INhumane Act Of any " angler " whose supposed to be " worth their Salt " . This is akin to leaving A Bear Trap Clamped on the Paw of a Bear
    And " letting nature take its course "
    I 💦 on You 🤬

    • @maheshwaran7602
      @maheshwaran7602 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These guys are irresponsible fishermen! Leaving the hook inside the fish is basically killing them. Good job!

    • @JivesFishing
      @JivesFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mahesh Waran The fish is more likely to survive if you cut the line rather than forcing it out of the gut which damages the gut further. Gut hooking is not an ideal situation nonetheless especially when its a non edible fish such as puffers, but its a part and parcel of fishing unfortunately. Cheers and have a good weekend.
