    Wow! Putting woes solved at long last!
    The calculated & gentle folding of my lead elbow turned out to be my putting Holy Grail, missing link! Now I'm making almost all the short putts I was missing and much better leaves w/ longer ones!
    Thank you for this most helpful video!
    (Now if I could just find a swing fix as effective as this putting fix! Lol)

    I am a retired PGA Professional and this is "so simple", yet so "right on"! I have found in my 48 yrs as a Golf Professional that SIMPLE is best, and this is great! After all, it's not Rocket Science!!!

    When I saw this video, I was skeptical and not convinced, but when I tried it, wow!!! say no more. This is one of the best if not the best putting technique I ever encountered in more than 20 years of looking for the best putting method. The title says it all "Easiest putting technique Ever". Thank you Mr. Cahill.

    This putting method is so amazing! I am a 18 handicapper, I have been struggling in putting for years. I was using this technique in today’s round and made 2 birdies, one from 14ft and the other from 26ft. I also made almost all 3 to 6 footers.

      Same here! I started using left arm as brace and my initial start/finish. I think it's the angle and connection to body. With the right hand on the club, it almost makes them connected "sense" wise.

    I just tried the one arm style, purposely not adding the second hand - my issue has always been that I'm quite a muscular guy, but with very narrow shoulders (bone structure-wise), so my triceps and lats are extremely tight together. This makes any sort of shoulder/upper torso rotation without moving anything else nearly impossible - the one arm technique has instantly become more consistent both in accuracy and in pace control than 15 years (very intermittent) of classic putting techniques. I have a thick handle center shaft face balanced mallet style putter for reference. Might just be the weird guy on the course who putts with one arm from now on - thanks for posting this video!

    When practicing in the house and on the course, I have noticed that when putting multiple balls i can get them to stop all lined up. I putted last year one handed and noticed that i was gauging speed great. Next problem was reading the green. Lol but i find it very conformable. Also you can carry your clubs in your other hand to speed up your round.

    I am unable to get to a course for a couple of weeks so I have just been practicing on the carpet and find this video to have been really helpful as it is simplifying the stroke by reducing the moving parts. Even the miss putts seem to roll better and the pace appears more controllable therefore more consistent with distance. I do putt with reverse grip and this feels OK. If a clip or comment on the different grips that players use and use this style of putting would also be good as I did revert to the claw grip for a while after watching Phil Mickelson as the standard grip just was not working for those short putts that end up being yippy putts turning into 3 putt greens. Shall keep my little fingers crossed when I get out onto the course. The saying 'keep it simple stupid' seems to be working in my practice. I just feel more comfortable standing over the ball. Back to some practice. From the Land Downunder.

    I've been using this method for years and it does work, however, I grip further down the club with my right hand, and hold the top of the putter with my left fingers, almost like a pencil. This is to just stabilize the top of the putter and make it more like a pendulum, I sometimes stand with an open stance almost like a 3/4 side saddle. I've been known to grip it with my index and middle finger knuckles which my friends and I call the "Camel Toe" grip, its more like gorilla knuckles :).

    THANK YOU for this tutorial! I'm just picking up the game in my 30s, and am doing well on everything but the putter. It just feels total foreign and uncontrolled when I follow through. I'm right-handed, but when I tried your method of isolating the arms, I found my right arm always flinches (almost as if it wants to "turn over"; no idea why) as the arc passes through the ball. My hand fluttering causes the ball to squirrel off in any direction on my putts. I isolated the left arm, and it's perfectly smooth all the way through. All I have to do is focus my energy on my left arm, and I'm sinking putts without any arm vibration at all. Great breakdown!!!

    great tip. So I need to ask you a quiestion. I was a fair putter on fast greens once I got a lite putter. I now have moved and the local course has very slow greens. If I hit hard enough to get there my line suffers. Would it be a help if I got a heavier putter to get more speed on the ball without hitting it harder

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally speaking there is a well developed idea of using a heavier putter on slower greens however most confident putters don’t switch putter weights or swing weights between different length greens. I’d suggest getting used to one putter weight until it’s your best friend. The. just practicing different length putts in the practice green before your round for ten to fifteen minutes.

  • @JH-of1xz

    Thank you for the helpfull tips. Bit of advice needed here. My putting is reasonable ok. My setup is arms hanging and body in a position that my eyes are looking directly down vertical over the ball. My putting stroke is straight back and straight through (no arc). However because of the angle of the putter head it sits slightly toe down. This occasionally misses the centre sweet spot resulting in short putts. I don't really want to change my putting set up and stroke. Would it be possible to either buy a putter that is square to the shaft or even get one custom fit?

    A simple lesson thank you. I try to take the putter straight back and straight through. I understand that the putter head will naturally go back to the inside then after striking the ball will continue to the inside. My question is, where in the stance will the putter head square up? I find that if I don't concentrate more on keeping the head square going through then I can either push out or pull to the left.

  • @mesillahills
    @mesillahills 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have putted many hours with my right hand only just as Tiger does. Here is why is works to create a good stroke. It teaches you to RELEASE the putter with NO ROTATION. The best way to prevent rotation is to do what Ben Crenshaw has insisted on for decades. Hold it very lightly and release it (aka - swing it). It's own momentum is what keeps it from turning CC. And that is why the right hand only method works. It promotes all of that. I can now make 100 in a row from 6 feet with my right hand only when I actually swing it. Look for Tiger Woods videos on this. It is the key to his great putting. It is going to feel like you went under and not around. There is no rotation taking place. And remember, the tilt of the shaft makes the putter head appear to open and close, and go inside on both sides of the ball. But in a proper stroke it is not rotating relative to the tilted plane it rides on. This is why tour players are so good. The people at "The Putting Arc" explain this very specifically and very well. While actually not rotating relative to the plane it rides on, it ONLY actually looks directly at the target at the point of impact. They actually tell you that on their website. And it's true. They also sell a separate clip on device for your putter head which teaches this as well. It's why so many people are poor short putters. They simply do not understand the stroke. If you weld a putter head to a bicycle rim at 90 degrees, it will appear to open and close (and go inside) when rotated on a tilted plane (the stroke). But it is not and cannot rotate relative to the rim's tilted spin plane because of the weld. THAT"S THE SECRET ! It's also why almost 100 percent of the tour player use some form of the Superstroke grip these days. That big flat top helps you to feel the lack of rotation when moved on the tilted plane. It's also why many of them are only putting their fight hand fingers on the grip today. That helps to feel this too. Once you get the hang of this you can also increase your margin of error by double just as Jordan Spieth and Ricky Fowler do. It's the old Jack Nicklaus "bread and butter" fade driving trick, but in putting. There's a very good Golf Channel Video on this technique too by Micheal Breed. By aiming right and lifting (on the tilted plane) you hook the ball into the hole every time. With a tour quality stroke as I describe above this works and is being used on tour by many players. Some of the greatest teachers today actually teach this method to tour players. In fact famed putter great Stan Utley has stated, "I have no problem with a player who hooks the ball into the hole every time". That's why. Also "the release" is why there is very little emphasis on staying still any more today. Some very good putters move everything all over everywhere. It's because the putter is simply riding on it's own momentum. It does not care much about what your body or head is doing. Even shoulder alignment is not real important. Again, you get this with the right hand only drill which Tiger has used all of his career and still uses religiously today at every tournament.

    Mike, have you experimented with one-handed chipping and pitching?

    • @RollYourRock
      @RollYourRock 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mike Cahill - Mike, were you aware of a European PGA Tour by the name of Jason Palmer who uses just his right arm (righty) to hit all his shots inside 40 yds? Yes, he has the "chipping/pitching yips".
      Mike, have you considered that it may be possible to hit some pitch shots far more effectively one-handed rather than with two? Think about it... with two hands on the club, you're physically restricting the length of swing arc. This especially being more true for us older players. It seems to be possible with the increased arc, the more naturally felt rhythm (feeling the weight of the clubhead) and the shallower attack angle, that you can create more spin with less arm speed. Try this on 20-25 yd shots off tight lies to tight pins....

    OMG this works. It is pouring down rain so I can't go out. But I am making 8 footers in my hallway like I can't believe. Right over my cup coaster.
    I don't agonizingly line them up, just aim and they go in for some reason.

    Thanks for the video, but it would be nice to mention where the ball lines up in the stance. Under the fulcrum? Or at the sternum line?

    • @catxnc
      @catxnc 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinger yes good question. If he lines this up after the fulcrum point (center stance - sternum) and strokes it properly, the putter head will obviously be somewhat closed at impact., thus I am trying this lined up center of heel. please note I am trying this out of desperation anyway, my putting has always been atrocious.

    I've been working on whether or not to let my dominant arm be the driver of the stroke almost the entire 2018 season. I've always felt that I should be controlling the stroke with my right arm. I putt left hand low, I'm a 5 hcp but I'm going to try this grip for sure. Thanks Cahill. -Cahill from Nashville

    So how long should the putter be dependent upon a persons size? Also how much flex in the knees and bend at the waist. You don’t seem to mention that and it’s obviously important in terms of set up

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally speaking I and most other instructors would suggest addressing the ball in their most comfortable position. That would be a relaxed athletic position that you body naturally wants to be in at address. This will make your routine repeatable, which is more important than an arbitrary exact angle for hip and knee bend. A couple things dictate good setup like the ball position being under or outside your eye line and where you have the in your stance (front or middle). Some players address the ball square and some with their body a little open, both are fine.
      Neither Dave or myself are the type of instructors that will give ever player an exact knee bend angle and waist bend angle. In my opinion that would destroy almost any players ability to putt with any grace.
      To put it simply as far as address goes. Get comfortable with decent ball positions and get a putter fit correctly from there, from a professional. It’s not possible to fit based on height or size.
      I hope this helps.
      -Mike Cahill

    Great explanation of the putting but, with your arm bent you are not going to be consistent as the putter head/shaft would be striking the ball at each stroke (differ) even a millimeter can effect your consistency as the arm could go lower or higher those few mm! Why so many golfers have problems with putting is that they use their right arm thus resulting in them closing the putterhead whilst making contact with the ball, the right hand is just for keeping the shaft steady, the back of the left hand follows through to the intended target! Try it!

      Hopefully this helps, I've gotten a Lot better this year but the thing holding me back was putting. When my putting was on I would shoot 36's but the days it wasn't I struggled to get in the thirties. (High school golfer btw)
