      Hey Jason, thank you so much for this video! I ordered the a7III. What full frame lenses would you buy for a travel (Japan) trip? The a7III has already eaten up a lot of my budget! Can you help me? Greetz from Germany!

      Hey Jason, I’m getting the 16-35 f4 for my A7iii., I mostly do videos, do you have any advice about Nd filters? Should I get a fixed ND or a Variable Nd? If fixed ang advice is how many stops should I get? And the filter Size. Should I get a bigger ND or just buy the 72mm for the Lens? Hope to hear from you. Thanks

    The Sony 10-18 f4 works on full frame from 12-16mm. It vignettes at 10mm and 18mm but 12-16 is totally usable and it’s small and light. Works great on my A7r

    Got my preorder in within 5min of the preorder so hopefully I'll get mine at launch! Going to use the 10-18 for wide angle video needs for now, and going to pick up the 24-105. Then down the road hopefully pick up the 12-24 for ultra wide needs later down the road. Can't wait to get the camera next month!

    28-70mm kit lens for travel
    28mm f2 for video
    Total for 1200$
    Please let me know your thoughts
    And btw i love your video, keep up the good work

    My most important accessory for the A6500 was a Smallrig cage with a wooden handle. It made the camera usable, since it was so small. Moving to the A7 series a cage is still key -- the Zeus cage is super cool and the handle on it makes for a super cool aesthetic. I hope the A7 III is a good fit in those cages, they add a lot of modularity to the system and make it easier to handle for sure.

    A more affordable option for new sony user, are the rokinon/samyang AF lenses. I personally own the rokinon 14mm f2.8. I think these are a great option for the folks on budget but still want the advantages of a Mirrorless system. The rest of my lenes are all sony brand and love them!

    Ok I was completely sure about get the 85 1.8 but I tried the GM and the 1.8 both at the same time and I changed all my mind about the 1.8. I mean, it’s a good lens if you want an affordable portrait lens, but the quality differences are there. It was too much for me. And I choose the GM. And about the 55 1.8, the 50 1.4 is better and the difference between both lenses are evident. About the other things I’m completely agree with you. The 16-35 GM is just a beast, and I would recommend the 35mm 1.4 my favorite lens by far.

  • @DavidAddis
    @DavidAddis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I wouldn't actually recommend putting APS-C lenses on the A7iii. For exclusively video, maybe.... but for stills you're cropping your 24MP full-frame sensor down to about 10MP, which might be too low-resolution in some cases.

      So my Canon mount Sigma 18-35 1.8 would be ok for video? which is why i brought it

    • @DavidAddis
      @DavidAddis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried it, but I think you are still downsampling a bigger image to 4k, so, yes it should still look good. But perhaps not quite as good as if you were downsampling the full-frame image to 4k.
      I assume you're manual-focusing with that lens? I loved the images but rely on AF-C for video so couldn't use it myself!

      Kevin Swan I have been shooting with Nikon since the early 90’s and will not jump ship that quick. I am following the rumors about a new mirrorless Nikon and waiting as long as possible. The huge focus area and eye auto focus sound amazing on the Sony. This is the first non-Nikon model that has caught my interest.

    I bought the $35 Takstar shotgun mic off of Amazon a few months ago for use with my DSLR. It's cheap, but the audio is good quality. I used it to film audio for a lot of video projects I did this year and had no complaints over sound quality. Look it up if you want to save a bit of money as opposed to buying Rode.
    It should work fine with the a7iii, but I have no idea as I haven't gotten my a7iii yet.

    I confirm. *55mm/F1.8* is amazing ★★★★★
    Returned *85mm/F1.8* which was more than great but for me 55mm is this sweet spot for all-around prime (FF and cropped) Worth every ¢

    Wait for Sigma Art E-mounts to be released. Get 24-35 f2, and 85mm f1.4.
    The quality the 85mm Art gives rivals the 85mm G-master at a fraction of the price.
    I've got that lens on a Nikon camera right now and the sharpness & DoF is intense!
    Straps i'd recommend the Sling: www.kickstarter.com/projects/restrap/sling-magnetic-camera-strap-and-lens-cap-holder-by?ref=user_menu
    It was a Kickstarter project but they do retail now. It has a magnetic locking system, is sturdy, and yet easy to detach.
    I have a few Peak Design products and I swear by their quality, but their camera slings a little too lackluster for me.

    Yup, your missing something. I'd say buy an *Aputure M9* light. Phenomenal light, super affordable on Amazon for $45 bucks, comes with a clip on case and two gel filters to change the light temperature and it's super bright! It's the perfect on the go light for situations you might need to add a bit of light to a situation. Worth every penny and I recommend getting two. Mounts to a hotshoe mount on the camera and also can be put on anything that can clamp on a cell phone. Target sells super affordable cellphone holders so couple that with the light and you got a good thing going!

    6:33 screen actually already has laminate and those scratches are on the laminate not on the screen. That laminate can be removed easily - revealing a shiny screen. Put on another laminate or a glass protector afterward is still a good idea.

    If you are using Canon native EF lenses then the Metabones V EF-E adapter would be best for AF performance and features. If you have Sigma glass in Canon mount then the MC-11 adapter is the best one to get for AF speed and feature set.

    You missed... if I insist... a compact flash light with trigger units and a link for that LCD screen protector sheet made by Sony. Also no link for flashlight "in" the video. Otherwise, another excellent video. Thanks Jason.

    Jason, do you not recommend the 12-24 g lens as a wide angle zoom altenative?

      @mavfan1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Syd the point if this video was to advise people new to Sony or at least new to Sony full frame. If course the 12-24 is great if you’re looking for a more advanced Sony users wide angle lens.

    I love your videos - I just picked up the A73 from a local bestbuy (Openbox $1,499) Couldn't believe the discount!! Now, all I need to do is get some lenses. Is the sony 16-35mm f4 going to be the best investment?

    Love your videos! What lens would you suggest for video? You have talked me into leaving Nikon and buying the A7III, so now I'm looking for a lens to go with this camera. I will be using this for about 95% wedding video and 5% photography. I really like a versatile lens that does not require a lot of changing, but Is still able to do some artsy shots for the details/pre wedding, and can zoom when needed. Go easy on me though, the wife already is not too happy with another camera purchase! PS. Hit me up if you ever need a 2nd or 3rd shooter, been looking for a reason to visit the West Coast! Thanks again for all you do!

    You did a great job! I already have the Sony Zeiss 55m f1.8 and it is great for portraits. But I'm looking for an excellent lens for video shoots... basically sit-down interviews. Can you recommend a killer lens for that (and one I can use with my new Sony A& III???)

    Hi Jason. Congratulations on your channel.
    I wanted to ask you something. When you use the gimbal and you have to record a wedding that objective recommend to use? I would like a lens that was angular and can zoom up to 50mm to capture moments with more detail. But when the focus shifted, the gimbal would no longer be balanced and I would have to turn it off and calibrate it again.
    How do you do it to not lose a lot of time with these settings?
    Is there an objective that changes the focal distance without modifying the balance point of the gimbal?
    I do not know if I explained well. I am Spanish and my English is not very good.
    Thank you very much Jason, I hope you can help me.

    Hey man love the videos! This is my first Sony and my main question is whats up with time-lapse can you do a video how to do time-lapse on A7iii maybe using both the sony intervalometer and that Alpine labs Spark accessory supposedly good for time lapses... I know S/Q mode but looking for some real time-lapse goodies with a Slider one Pro for backpacking John Muir Wilderness with the A7iii Thanks for all the informative videos and i'll def check out that even in LA Cheers!

    My 3 lenses for the A7iii:
    1. Sigma 16mm 1.4 (Crop Mode)
    2. Ziess 55m 1.8
    3. Sony FE 85 1.8
    Unless those new Sigma Art Lenses turn out well I don't see the point in spending more money or buying more lenses.

    I need some advice. I have nikon d5300 with 50mm 1.8 lens (80 mm on crop sensor) and kit lenses. Now i want to upgrade and do events and portraits. I want to switch to sony a7iii and have nikon as my backup camera. What lenses should i get for wedding and portrait shoots, should i invest in one good lens and rent the 2nd one? Or buy couple of lenses
    My budget is $ 5000 CAD (maybe $ 5500).

    hey, love the video! recently my A7iii broke down because of using it in the rain, I got a raincoat on it while shooting all day, but it breaks down in the end because the temperature suddenly climb up too high when I put the camera in the car, my question is how do you protect your a7iii while shooting in a bad weather? thank you.
