As a Brazilian I find the history about the guy who just went walking in Belém with an camera in hand funny and terrifying 😅 Brazil is a dangerous country, people shouldn't do that in any public place here (in general) , but definetly not in a favela. I never went to Belém, but i know its dangerous, like most of our big towns. Guy was luck and met some good kids. Most of our people are good, honest, and we apreciatte respectfull tourists, but It doesn't need that much others to make a place insecure.

Hahaha Emmaville is harmless. I live 30km away and have been going there my entire live. Worst thing you'll find there is inbred methheads that are surprisingly friendly. There are definitely panthers in the area, or at least there used to be from this American troop that would use the area for training back in the 50's. Which had a panthers as their mascots, that were released into the wild before they were taken back home. I encountered one myself out at Mount Mushroom.

Stopped for breakfast somewhere Indiana. Waitress sez 'That's to-go, right?' Confused; no, eating here. Sez it again. Huh?? While food's cooking, the man on next stool is staring. I finally look to him, smile, good morning. He glares, sez nuthin. Glancing around, it's all men, they're ALL staring angrily. Hail the waitress, food's already boxed, I leave a decent tip. 25 yrs later, still no idea wtf i walked into. Wish I'd understood her 1st warning, but glad i escaped!

    Ok I got one
So I went on a family trip from Phoenix, AZ to Denver, CO for Christmas in 2014. We drove there and started very early in the morning.
After we got to the I-40 and headed east towards Albuquerque, we decided to stop at the next town a few miles away.
An unusual dense fog bank rolled in, very rare for this part of Arizona. Looked like a white version of our sandstorms. Visibility went very low and we drove carefully, but no incident.
So we turn off the highway to the nearby gas station and the whole area feels off. All the buildings around the area looked abandoned or seriously run down, and there was absolutely NO ONE. Not a soul or car or anyone else besides our group and the gas station employee. He def gave off weird vibes and we decided to not stick around long. The dense fog definitely made the scenery a lot more unsettling for sure.

As someone who grew up in Tuckerton NJ, I’m surprised to see it on this list! It’s a fairly chill place to grow up, just a small town. I grew up there, from 3rd grade till high school graduation. The people there are friendly, just bored cuz there’s nothing to do lol
I moved there after 2001 though, so maybe it was different, and I’m sorry that the poster had such a terrible experience!

People from liberal cities love making up stories of "I went to the south/middle america and went to this small town called [a suburb 30 minutes outside a major city in that state with 25,000 people and an only 80% white population] and the residents were all looking at my black and native american friend with pure anger and hatred. The service workers refused to help us. The police also clearly were klan members. We got out of there as soon as we can."

I remember growing up i used to go to this church(Baptist) and that place gave me serious creepy vibes. There was a basketball court behind the church and for some odd reason a few meters away from it was this concrete slab wall thingy almost like a columbarium with 5 plaques on it and flowers that were planted on it and apparently this was the founding family who built that church and they died in an accident or fire im not sure the stories are all different... anyways so now this church used to have a huge congregation but people started leaving slowly and i was around 12(now 19) and at that time there were like 20 people left in the church. There were only 4 young people ,including me, who were now in charge of the songs and playing the instruments and all and sometimes we had to meet up for practice on Saturdays and i used to be the first one there because i live like 15 minutes away so i had the keys to the church and sometimes noone would pitch so i would just wander around outside and inside and if im being honest that church gave me serious creepy vibes i cant even explain it. As time passed and i waited for the others the other Saturdays i eventually started to wait outside the yard of the church because even being in the yard alone i just felt uneasy like someone or something was watching me...i still have fever dreams like nightmares about that church and its still creeps me out i eventually left when i was like 15 after years of struggling to get my grandparents to let me go to the church i wanted to go to (the one with more young people obviously). And no i wasnt being paranoid because of the buried ashes , i always felt uneasy even before knowing about the plaques because i only found out they were ashes buried there as i got older i never bothered to ask...
English is not my primary language please.
I know its not the most interesting but i just thought i would share.

I've done some long distance driving across the western US and the city I found the creepiest was Anaconda, MT.
I have some relatives who live in Bozeman and Billings, and being a long-haired "rocker" looking guy definitely got me some looks at the Montana gas stations just off I-90. Thankfully, it was mostly just friendly curiosity as I would tell them I'm a musician and teacher from Seattle. I did not receive this friendly curiosity in Anaconda.
As I pulled up to the gas station in Anaconda, I noticed some people stiing on a bench just outside of the convenience store. As soon as I got out of my car, they take a look at me and then just seemed to disappear. I fill up my car and go into the gas station to get some snacks and see that other than the cashier behind the counter, the store doesn't have any people in it. I grab some snacks and make my way to the cashier to pay for my purchases. The cashier doesn't even look at me, he just rings up my items and gives me a very distant and slightly hostile "have a nice day".
I go out of the store back to my car and see some new people sitting on the bench outside. They give me this look of "Get out of our town". I notice a truck is now parked at the gas pump on the other side of my car. The two guys in the truck look at me with a similar look as the people on the bench. I get back into my car and make my way back to the freeway.
I look in the rearview and notice that truck is following me. It follows me until I'm out of the town, which then I see it make a U-turn back into the town.
I'd never stopped in that town before, and I will never stop there again after that incident.

YOO ok so I got one.
So me, my dad and my brother went to ruby valley in Nevada, which is a VERY small town right outside of Elko. I was going hunting, and we say the morman church there and decided to stop by the next Sunday (they are morman, I'm non practicing). Let me tell you, I have NEVER gotten such horrible vibes in a church before. Everyone in the chapel just gave us (me especially) really dirty looks, the vibes I got from the men were really creepy. Due to some stuff that happened when I was younger, I have a very high danger meter that if it goes off I don't wanna be around you. The bishop went over to us after sacrament and pretty much told us to leave now or there was gonna be trouble. I was getting such bad vibes I wanted to throw up lol

RE: the Decatur, GA store. “y’all ain't from around here.” isn't normally a put-down. It is a conversation opener. “No I’m not. I'm from (place) have you ever been there” or “No I'm not. Can you recommend any good restaurants?” Not to say it’s never used to scare someone away, but I'm from Georgia, and I rarely, if ever hear it as a put-down. But, then it was Decatur…🤨

I ate at a large and extremely empty restaurant many years ago and the waiter said nothing but gave me a significant look (like a warning) -- turns out it was mob owned and perhaps the few other customers preferred eating alone. Another time, I and a friend just ordered dessert and coffee in a place in LA. The waiter took our order but IIRC I did not even get a chance to finish before the hostess or manager came to the table and said something like, "We don't want this kind of thing here -- could you just take care of your bill and leave?" I was not even 20 yet so I did not argue, but today I firstly would not have paid and secondly would have asked for an explanation. My guesses were that the manager objected to neither of us ordering on entree or how we were dressed, but why seat us then in the first place? -- I think I even mentioned that we just wanted dessert before we sat down. I don't think we were loud or anything and the place was uncrowded. My friend was a little older but he had no idea either.

I'm a Geordie, from near Whitley Bay. I left the northeast at 18, and moved to Liverpool, which is my adopted home. I'm 61 now. I do remember in Geordie land women did not go to pubs unless accompanied by a man, and if a woman tried to get served at the bar, she'd be refused, so her bloke would have to buy her drinks for her. Don't know what it's like up there now, but the patriarchy was certainly alive and well in the seventies. Plus, I always thought Alnwick was a very quaint, genteel place, but it seems the place has livened up a bit.

I got to know a little history of the town. There are people who lived in that town generation after generation. There are also Californians who retired from silicon valley. I grew up in California and often times I find Californians to be the worst. I hung around a local who told me about satanic cults, a Shapeshifters who tried to abduct a child disguising itself as the boys father. A Shapeshifters who nearly tricked a hunter into killing his family. Then there were tales of sasquatch, UFOs, and a multitude of other weird stories. The people I have worked with, lived around had put me on edge. I see how they sabotage others, and the trickery they use, and the problems they cause that they seem to delight in.

Talco TX is pretty creepy. It used to be a pretty decent sized town in the 1950's due to the oilfield, but then it dried up and they never replaced it with anything and the city council rejected any kind of new industries wanting to move in. It was on the path to be a town of around 15,000 or so but now its like 400 people and there's like a "downtown" from the 50's completely abandoned, a bank from the 90's that's got trees growing up around it and weeds in the parking lot and the door is boarded up with plywood with keep out spray painted on it. Theres also a creepy ass abandoned highschool like one of a movie that's literally full of security cameras with infrared lights you can see in there at night. There's a gas station and some rather strange looking old people sit in there all day scratching off lotto tickets and smoking inside, glaring at people that come in that they don't recognize. Some of the houses out there are super run down or borderline condemnable with people still living there.

Some pretentious redditor (whoops, tautology) spouts off about pocket dimensions and other nerd crap but doesn't know where Nilbog is from! Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Arrgh, the more he talks, the more I despise him. I wouldn't piss on his food to save his whole family's life!

I live near Alnwick, and was driving through late one night and saw a lad parcel taped to a lamppost near Barters.
As for the silent stares, it was probably during winter when the locals finally thought the influx of tourists had let up. My mate lives near the George and has had some stories to tell over the years 😂
