- Playing Martin M21 to share a quick guitar tip, to enhance your playing. The guitar has a LR Baggs HiFi and is playing through a Bose S1. This video was recorded on an iPhone 15.
NOTE: I made an error when describing a C chord that was at the 8 fret.... I said "7th fret" by mistake. - เพลง
I've played Guitar since 1965 and have known many various riffs played off of triads and arppegios but the the most difficult thing to try teaching someone is imagination. Yet it is a vital necessity in order to be a good Guitarist. Partly what you did here was help to develope imagination. That's a big accomplishment.
Thank you very much! So glad you are listening in❤️
Thank you for this . fifty years of guitar playing here and I learn something new all the time!
Awesome! Thanks for listening!❤️
Yes the martin sounds great with that lr biggs, almost as sweet as your soothing calm voice
Thank you so much❤️
So cool....without a lot of music theory you communicate exceptional demonstrations of adding life to chords. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!❤️
Excellent! Short, sweet, to the point. Thanks so much.
Glad it helped!😀
Good idea Cindy looking forward on viewing your videos daily.
Thank you so much!❤️
I consider myself an advanced level player but I still learn things from you. What a blessing! Thank you for sharing.
Awesome, and I am still learning from others as well. I love TH-cam for that. There is so much information to study. It’s never ending😀. Thank you so much for the kind words❤️
Great stuff Cindy. I sure enjoy your videos and always learn something too. Thanks for posting.
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the videos. 😀
Enjoy your videos. Your instruction is right where my skill level is. Figured many things out on my own over the years, but you make it understandable. Thanks.
That makes me feel good to think the videos are helpful! Thank you
Good morning Cindy. My goodness this is a good lesson. It seems that all the riffs are based on a partial D shape on various places on the neck. I've been hearing these riffs forever and thank you for pointing out how simple they are once they are explaned. You have a great teaching method.. Really looking forward to the live show. Be well and God bless. Cheers
So glad that helped. 😀 Makes me smile to know someone else enjoys what Ilearned too. ❤️
Thanks! I love those little riffs
Me too. Its amazing when you are playing and suddenly you can see a place where it fits. ❤️
That guitar does indeed have a beautiful resonance and sound. I think you can make any guitar sound beautiful. Thanks for the lesson.
Thank you for the kind words❤️
Don't know how your video popped up, but I'm glad it did. You're a wonderful guitarist! Beautiful guitar didn't know Steve Earl had a Martin signature model, but I did get to see him when he came to Toronto Canada a few years back. Thanks for the lesson!
That must have been fun seeing him play live. I heard recently he has a new live album ready to be released near the end of July this year. Thank you so much for visiting my channel and the kind words❤️
nice tutorial , learned in only a few moments and will have a huge effect on my playing! Thank You!
Good morning, todays video will be posted at 5am my time (California) about 30 minutes from now and it adds on to this video another fun approach. Thanks for listening in ❤️
You make that bar chord look so easy!!! I have a death grip on mine to make a bar chord.
Just a thought… that struggle might be related to a poor guitar setup. I am assuming you are playing steel string. If so, a guitar with a shorter scale and a slimmer neck can help too. I put out a video a few weeks ago on bar chords. It provides an approach that might help you build up to it. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/92EGm76V9sQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yjT7sIAR78vdUS5g
Thanks for your help!!!
Also, thanks for teaching in a calm relaxing way.
GOD Bless you and family!!!
So glad you are watching and finding the videos helpful. Thank you❤️
Classic turnaround, anyone who knows the open chords, this will help immensely in extending your guitar vocabulary! Nice lesson ❤
Thank you very much❤️
Like the guitar, pickup, amp combination.Inspiration to play is what it’s all about.
So true❤️ thanks for watching!
I look forward to your daily nuggets. I love my martins. I am always playing one of them each day.

That's great. Its so much fun to find new things, even if its little. ❤️ thanks a bunch!
🎉🎉I love her little laugh….it speaks right to me….this is so easy, but so cool it says. 🎉
Thanks, so glad you are enjoying the video! ❤️
Accidentally found your video and as a just beginner on guitar I found this very helpful and enjoyable. Thank you from Panama.
Will be looking out for more videos. By the way that is a very beautiful sounding guitar with you playing it. Thanks again
Awesome, thank you! Yes that Martin M21 is a wonderful instrument… one of my favorites 😄
Beautiful, from D and A shapes, and so I tried using the E shape using the 3rd and 5th strings. They seem fine picking alternating and at the same time, descending, ascending or ascending then descending. Wow, I love learning concepts like this. Thanks
So glad it was useful!!! Thank you ❤️
Wow enjoyed great commuicated instruction and humor as well!
Greetings from New Zealand and very happy to hit the subscribe button as well
Welcome aboard New Zealand! Love hearing from you and very glad you enjoyed the video ❤️

Hello from Liverpool UK new subscriber what a wonderful simple but effective lesson great stuff ❤
Check out todays video… it adds on to this video another easy way. Thanks❤️
Coffee and guitar. Two of my faves.
The go together like salt and pepper 😀
MUCH APPRETIATED - Gord from western Canada - I am an older player who misses have having someone teaching me the extras
There is nothing more fun than meeting up with guitar playing friends. Here we have organized jams that are available to the public. Do you have similar community gatherings where you are at?
Thank you for making guitar life a WHOLE lot easier 😁🎸😊👍💃
Thank you 😀
Lots of good information cindy thanks. I live in missouri.
I love visiting Missouri - “the show me state” Thanks a bunch ❤️
That was lovely playing, I’m not very good but I appreciate people who play better than me, thanks 😊
Thank you very much! That is so sweet❤️
Hello Cindy. ✌️ looking forward on your next video.
Thank you! 🤗
Amazing! Thanks
It is such a beautiful sound. Thanks so much for listening in❤️
thank you, the lesson was a light bulb moment for me, it opened a lot of scope for my playing ( such as it is )
Awesome glad it helped!❤️
Hello from Ireland 🇮🇪. Thank you ❤
Hello there! Ireland!! Thank you too❤️
Thank you for the video,Cindy! I have a Martin OO-18 and am researching what pickup to put in it. That pickup sounds awesome!
I am really happy with this new model. Its nice to install a great sounding pickup and not have to alter the saddle! It sounds so natural. 😀
Is the M21 a small body guitar as well? Thanks again for more little tips. It’s really nice actually to learn a little riff or two to add to other things I play!! I do practice everything I learned from you. I’ve also located a Taylor 322ce 12 Fret at a private little music store about an hour away from me that I’m going to check out this weekend! I’m so excited😂 and have been literally living for this weekend!!❤
No its a 0000 (quadripple 0) just under a 16” bout but it has a 4” depth like the 000. . The shallower depth makes it super comfortable. It sounds awesome.
Wish I could play like you Colin UK ❤xxx
Enjoy every step of the journey as you continue to learn guitar. Thank you Colin❤️
You are really good.
Thanks a bunch🤗
Gosh. Thank you 🎶💕
You're welcome 😊
I enjoyed it.
Thank you!❤️
So, you can do those same chromatic fills with a minor sixth if you do them in the right place. Thanks for the video!
I love hearing these options!!! ❤️ thanks!!😀
Is the HiFi you have in your guitar. Just that. Or the Hifi Duet with the blendable microphone inside.. Thanks,, and thank you for your time spent making these tutorials.
It’s not the duet. If the duet improves on this sound, its going to be pretty awesome. Thanks❤️
Love your channel! Getting back into playing and I’m in the market for a guitar. Was looking at some of the Yamahas, mainly the FG830 for around $350, but then I heard your Martin and all I can say is wow! That sounds beautiful! Way nicer! But it costs more than my car so… 😂 Will a cheap guitar make playing more difficult?
😀You do not need to spend large amt of money to get a good guitar. It is best to go to a store and play them if you can. Yamaha makes some nice instruments but if you can sample them before it helps. Once you buy it make sure it is setup correctly so it plays easy. If you go play check out Epiphone, Eastman, Guild, Takamine, Breedlove they all have decent guitars with solid tops for under $500. Thanks for listening in❤️
I like the rat cup my favorite, thx for the riffs
🤣🤣🤣rat cup! Can’t say I heard Mickey described that way… but you’re right😂😂it is a rat cup!❤️
@@guitarnotions thx, 4 the reply, as U may or may not know mickey started out as a rat, & then a transformation acured, & know we have a sweet mouse, sooo! please
keep on strumming
@@ferraritoybox that’s interesting ❤ thanks for the info on our old friend 😀
Thank you .
You are welcome! Thsnks😀
Great lesson but can you expand a bit on those extra little licks you use after you return to the chord?
Thanks
Hello, yes I can, perhaps a future lesson. I try to keep these videos to 10 to 12 minutes so it can be a focus on future posts. Thanks for the idea
Nice lesson short effective to the point great.
Glad it was helpful!❤️
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you so much! Your sweet gift made me smile this morning ❤️
Morning ... you were doing those walk downs on G and I was trying to play it .. the fancy picking thing you did, but when you did it, I felt like there was some split division like it was not all on the beat .... slowed it down and it did sound like it was... so maybe I need to practice finger picking to get it faster? Seemed like syncopation somehow when you played it not boring like I thought it went.....alternating e and d string w/thumb and 1st and 3rd finger
It’s best to take the frame work and play it slow til you feel super comfortable. Turn on a metronome start slow. Then increase the timing. Another thing you can do is take a song you already know that has one of or more of the 3 chords and try to add the riff in the song. I will try to show a quick example in tomorrow mornings video. Hope what I am saying isn't confusing. Thanks❤️
@@guitarnotions no its not. thank you , out of sight!
I would also love to know the picking pattern you’re using on the chord section. It sounds amazing with these fills. But it’s going too fast for me to pick up what your doing 🥲But as is, it’s a great little practice piece I’ve just written into my book so thank you so much for that ❤
@@guitarnotions Probably confusing that I was referencing a different video. I meant the one that went from G to D to Em and back to D and G.... That fancy picking.... I have been trying to crack it and I think Im more on the right track if Im not thinking 4/4 but more 3/4 a shuffle in there is closer it seems
Thank you ! I have 2 ask this ...do you own all of the guitars in your videos !! Great taste you have !
I don't own them all. I borrow some. But this Martin m21 is mine. I bought it used at a store called Fanny’s House Of Music in Nashville.
Hello, great lesson. When did you buy your Martin M 21? That’s probably the most expensive one you own! Sounds the best of all. Thanks
I bought it used about a year ago from Fanny’s House Of Music in Nashville. Great store and definitely a fun visit.
Hello I just found your channel. I played from the age of 10 to about 21. I put it down and had other interest in my life. I am now almost 70 and picked it back up just before Covid lock down. I went down to work local music store and picked up 1 of my 12 different guitars, trading back and forth. I have small hands and with age my fingers to my brain don't work like they did. I finally decided to put a little more money into what would at least sound better. Got a Martin but struggled till my friend told me about Taylor
I went and got a 214ce. The neck made it playable for my hands. I do miss that Martin sound. The Taylor is a great guitar but punchy. I am thinking about going back to Martin but I don't want to lose the easier way with the Taylor. I enjoyed your videos and have Subscribed to your channel. What should I do, I miss the Martin but?????? Thanks David
You should be able to find a Martin guitar that fits your needs. The Martin you had might have just needed someone to do a proper setup. But even with a good setup, if the guitar is the wrong style, scale, neck size, or body size it maybe uncomfortable. The Martin you had might have been larger in size (like a dreadnaught) making it more challenging for you. Find a guitar store with a good reputation in your area ask to try guitars that are 12 frets to the body and or short scale. Try smaller size body (your Taylor is an auditorium size and has a 1.687” nut, and it has 25.5 scale. ) Also consider a Martin 00 or 000 in size see what you think. I guess what I am trying to say is there are many styles, shapes, neck sizes and neck scale. I don’t have a quick answer to what guitar is best for you. Find a store with a great reputation and get help from someone that has the knowledge to help you make a choice. There are so many great guitar companies out there. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a great instrument that fits you and your style. Hope this is helpful ❤️
@guitarnotions Thank you so much..I think it was an x series, I tried the cut. Which I bought, the was a 00 series both were right at 1000.0..the Taylor feels so good and size is very comfortable. I can't play bar cords due to arthritis, I can play c chords easily, The Martin I couldn't
@@DavidS19551 Taylor neck profile is very nice. Maybe ask the store about other Taylor’s or guitars with similar neck profiles. Have fun shopping, take your time deciding 😀
So, it seems that the "trick" is to locate the 1 and dominant 7 of the scale, and move chromatically up or down. Am I understanding correctly?
Well let’s test it… checking G chord we start with a 5th (D) on the third string and E on the first. And if you are in E you start with B (5th) on the 3rd string and Ab on the first string. My theory is not all that strong, but based on that I would say they are not the same. I looked this up and found a clear definition “a dominant seventh chord, or major minor seventh chord, is a seventh chord, composed of a root, major third, perfect fifth, and minor seventh. “ …If that doesn’t make your head swim you are genius 🤣❤️
@@guitarnotions yes my head is definitely spinning, but I do understand that definition. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. I understand theory WAY better than I can actually play guitar. Thanks for the response.
I am just learning to play guitar !!!
Great! Enjoy the journey!!! ❤️
Beautiful flowing music, from a nice woman
Thank you very much. ❤️
With ur LIVE …. It can be watched at any time
Good. Now I really hope it goes smoothly 😀
😊
😄
We love you! So of course we forgive the 7th fret "terrible" mistake😂🙏❤️🙏😂
🤣I saw that last night! whoops🤣
@@guitarnotions 😂
@@guitarnotions it’s only human, I sometimes post the wrong title of the song and not realizing it repost the next song with the right title cos I’m trying to hurry or it’s late after the concert n I’m trying to put a few songs one the channel. We the next morning some folks get all ruffled up but some are nice to just point out my mistake.
Don’t worry about subscribers it took me 11 years to get 712 subscribers now haha. I’m just sharing music not trying to make money
I could just go back and fix it but I agree - not worth worrying about. 🤣 just play on 🙃
Double stop walk downs from 3-3b-2-1
That’s a great way to say it! Thanks so much for listening in❤️
Cindy, you've brightened my day's. Thanks for your obedience to God. Perhaps some time you could add a scriptural message into your lessons? I get a lot of encouragement from things like that. I'm a minister so it's nice to see other's that share God. We're in a time where that will gain in the kingdom. You may lose some followers but you'll gain isn wisdom and may gain different kinds of people like me. 👍 I am a gardener so the messages I share are related. Have a good day. Thanks for the lesson. I'm growing for the first time. 😊
Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it😀 I definitely am richly blessed by a great a great God! Also, I am glad that you found the videos to be helpful ❤️ thank you again for sharing you thoughts.
@@guitarnotions , so welcome. I can't wait! Tee heee!
I gotta get a better guitar. One that can handle standard tuning. 😮
Lol. Oh my, that would be helpful 😀
@@guitarnotions , yeah.
Yes, that Martin sounds great!
Love the Martin guitars Thanks very much !
