Having taught for over 20 years, I had to point out a few things: Really really important to use the wall in the beginning......bringing the heels of the hands together will in most people flatten the neck (flexion of the cervical spine), so imagine instead that you are holding an egg between your hands and it will give the neck the space to elongate (be in a neutral position)....Before lifting up, crucial to instruct lifting the shoulders. Practice Downward facing dog, plank pose, dolphin for a while before attempting Sirsasana in order to build upper body strength to support the neck. When coming out of this inversion, rest in Child's pose. B
birgitte kristen : that's right. I have not done this pose yet, but I could do it with a wall. It made me more calm down and keep this for a few seconds. Not easy to control my body to balance on the head :)
This is a great video. Great cue to walk the feet in until you can't anymore. Many students cannot feel walking the legs in until their hips stack. Excellent cue.
She simply explains most important parts for me. Which part of your head to put and don' t throw your legs to stand. Also have to wait a bit after pose finish. Really helpful thank you. :)
Best advice for headstand ever! Really well explained. Managed to get both legs off the floor for more than a couple of seconds for the first time ever after trying for years! Did quite a lot of crashlanding onto cushions to start with but getting better and better. After second week now manage inverted baddakonasana but haven't quite got to legs straight yet, will persevere! Thank you so much.
I followed her steps and I trusted myself in the process.after some practices I finally made it. I have been doin yoga for many years but i stuck up into basics now its time to learn more poses and I believe I improve daily. Just keep on practicing and enjoy the process instead of doing it as a routine.
I was watching another video - totally failed and was getting ready to give up. Especially because of my weight, I figured I had no chance. Watching this one; totally different outcome. Very pleased with this video.
Thank you This is one of the best tutorials! I followed your instruction and it was my very first time practicing handstand. This tutorial gives me so much hope compared to other!
I love how simple and clear you make this. I've only braved it at the wall for the first time tonight. Think that means I must need to strengthen my abs a bit more to feel confident freestanding.
Thank you for this video! This has helped me tremendously! It feels amazing to conquer a new challenge. Each time I'm able to balance more and more. Thank you!!!
Really, really wonderful, I was struggling for the last 3 to 4 days to attain headstand, though I finally managed to stand for 1 to 2 minutes. But, this video will make my take up and take off easy. Thank you, You are a wonderful tutor.
so helpful! thank you so much - the advice on elbow placement was most useful and of course the "one step at a time" approach is really the way to go . after a year of trying, i was finally able to to move slowly into a steady headstand without a wall and without any "hopping" !! thanks! namaste.
this was awesome!!! thank you.... been trying for a while to nail this but your 8 steps of crisp, confident , direction helped me get this in one go! your a great teacher and helped me to trust myself x
This is good. Take one step at a time and when you come up to dolphin pose with hips in the air, stay there for 30 seconds.Even that alone is a great start. Lucas has covered this already and offers even more insight
Helpful to beginners will ab strengthening, hip opening and ham and back stretch in preparation for, in fact a good yoga practice before attempting this
You are a wonderful teacher. I was wondering if you've done tutorials on the shoulder stand or plough. those are particularly difficult positions to do if you don't have the requisite flexibility. That is even more true for the Locust.
Amazing tutorial! Thank you. I've been working my way up to headstands and handstands with no real success without being against a wall, but I got it the first try after watching this. Form really does help. Thanks again! :)
OH MY GOSH! I cannot thank you enough! I've tried many different ways and this worked for me sooo well. I got so excited on how natural it felt that I fell backwards but I'm ok. Absolutely amazing 😍
I flipped over the first time I did this! hahah! :) But I am working really hard to learn to how to do a proper headstand. I am cheating some by using the wall for support because my core isn't strong enough yet, but it will be! Thanks for a super awesome video!
One of the best instructions on youtube, thank you so much! Btw could you explain where do you put pressure of your body? On the head or arms and elbows?
Hi :) I just wanna say that this was VERY helpful and thanks to this video now I can do my headstand much steady! :) Also I want to do a forearm stand but that one seems to be more difficult to me :S I'd love to see a tutorial from you about how to do it .
Thank you so much!!! The measurement are exactly what I needed to finally get up. I flipped over into the wall, but that's okay, up on the first try..Yeahhhhh!!!!
+Gunjan Sachdeva Keep your back and neck straight. Do not bend your neck. Balance with core and back muscles, keep them tight, not relaxed. And while you do this, do it slow and concentrate about every move.. And breathe :)
Gunjan Sachdeva hun its not as easy as she's making it sound. 😅 everyone I've talked to that knows how to do it said it took them 3 months to a year even sooo .. don't listen to her lol
