    There are TWO curtains, when you wind the camera the mirror moves down into position,the rear curtain moves to the left, ready to shoot back to the right when the picture is taken to stop any more light reaching the film.The inner curtain moves to the right, all this is operated by the shutter button on the left front of the camera, depending what shutter speed you have set, when you press the shutter button all in an "instant" the mirror moves upwards and the two curtains "cross" over back to their original positions and a photograph has been taken.

    Thanks for the video! I have an Exakta camera that I won in a photography contest but I haven't used it since high school so I forgot how to use it! Great refresher video.

    What is the button on the top of the Exa that sits where the shutter release normally goes?

    • @forwardcameras

      I am not sure which one you refer to

      @@forwardcameras Figured it out! It’s the rewind button on the top side of the camera. Took me awhile to figure out the shutter button was on the front!

    I have one of these. I can’t see where you set the ASA/ISO. I’m assuming you can’t? Which ISO films are safe to run through this?

    • @JStevenBroome
      @JStevenBroome 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The camera has no built-in meter, so entering an ISO isn’t necessary. Any film speed can be used. You’ll just need to determine exposure using another method, such as handheld meter or app.

    i have one & everything seems to be in great condition & it takes great photos. recently something has happened with my mirror & now after every photo before advancing my film i have to take my lens off and manually put the mirror back down because it doesn't do it by itself. do you have any idea what's causing this? i love this camera so much that im willing to pay the price to get it looked at by a camera shop but i just wanted to know if you had any ideas!

    Hi! is there a sure way to know if your exakta is working? If the shutter opens and closes is it working for sure? Or do I need to use film to test it out

    • @forwardcameras
      @forwardcameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing about this camera is that even if the shutter is working the curtains are made from fiber which is prone to light leaks over time. I would check the curtains in the dark for light leaks with an led flashlight to know for sure. Also you would also need to make sure the shutter speeds are accurate. Please subscribe.

      I shined a light in the dark and saw tiny bits of light coming through. Does that mean it will ruin the film? Also is there any way to fix this?

      There is no battery for this camera and no light meter

    The first Exacta is from 1936 and it's probably the first SLR.

      Just recently got one that appears to have been restored for about $75 with a pretty low end lens. I've noticed the lenses really determine the price, as some of the lenses still command pretty fair prices, especially the Zeiss Frektagon series. I have an Exakta as well with a really nice Zeiss lens, but the front element is totally destroyed and hazy.
