    G Day Max, I have gone to the little DJI action cameras now, so far have not had any issues. These Chinese tools are handy to have around and they often go ok but they just drop the ball a few times just with little things on most items and to repair the little faults would be stuff all to make a really handy product. No surprises with the chuck I have had a few cheapies over the years that no longer get used.

    Honest appraisal as we'd expect from your self Max, drill chucks seem an after thought on these types of machines, ref big loss of useable travel. Annular cutters have compliance built-in, ref coupling and not an issue!.
    Drill motor cable is a ridiculous issue, but otherwise useful tool.
    I have a BUX magnetic drill, tad larger, weighs in at 75 kg.
    Thanks for sharing.

    I was fully expecting that chuck runout, as every other thorough VEVOR review of their mag drills I've seen had the same issue. You gave it a good and fair workout and it performed as expected. I've reviewed a few VEVOR products and they have been excellent value for money. If they correct the issues you raised the product would be a bargain. Good review Max. Cheers Rob

    Hi Max, I have like you call them Rota Broaches, must be an Aussie thing.
    Make great milling cutters, in Indonesia I was in a bind, blunt milling cutters and used a rota broach to finish the job.
    Regarding overheating of the electro magnet, using a generator with poor sine wave output they will definitely overheat.
    Extend the cable and throw the chuck in the bin, will make a useful tool with a quality chuck.

    I've been very satisfied with this drill. I replaced the electrical cord to the motor to increase the travel. I replaced the $5 chuck with a $50 keyless chuck that is perfect. I had to spend some time aligning the gibs for best results. The only thing I can't fix is the Weldon shank socket: it is too loose, so when you tighten up the screws it pushes the annular cutters off axis and they no longer run true. Some shims might fix this, but I need something thinner than 0.05mm, which I can't find.

    • @swanvalleymachineshop
      @swanvalleymachineshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a bugger about the shank . I might measure my one , although it felt ok . 👍

    • @michaelc.b.ashley16
      @michaelc.b.ashley16 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@swanvalleymachineshop I made some measurements today, and the runout is 0.040mm at the internal surface of the Weldon socket, and unfortunately is in the direction which adds to the runout produced by tightening the screws. The runout increases to 0.095mm for an annular cutter. The diameters of the Weldon shanks of a couple of Vevor annular cutters I tried were 19.026mm, which is 0.024mm below 0.75 inches. Machinery's Handbook says that the maximum error is 0.0005", which is about 0.013mm, so the cutters are out of tolerance by a factor of 2. I can't accurately measure the internal diameter of the shank, but the runout measurements imply it is about 19.08mm (my Mitutoyo digital calipers say 19.07), which is about 0.03mm too big.
      Anyway, this all sounds like splitting hairs, but the end result is a runout of about 0.1mm (or four thousandths of an inch) on the cutter, which is not particularly good.

      @@swanvalleymachineshop I checked my drill press (MT3 spindle with a keyless chuck) just now and was surprised to find that the runout was 0.12mm, which is worse than the Vevor magdrill. In practice, the magdrill works fine once the annular cutter bites into the metal, as does my drill press. For a milling machine, runouts like these would be a concern.

    The pin shuts the coolant off at the top of the cutter. When using the coolant you could just put the handles on the other side to avoid the coolant hose. Since annular cutters cut from the inside out, it's best if you can get cutting fluid inside the cutter. There are paste type lubricants that can be put inside the cutter that will melt as the cutter warms up.

    • @swanvalleymachineshop
      @swanvalleymachineshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      The pin pushes open the coolant valve when the pointy end contacts the work . This one does not shut off , just leaks . 👍

    Hi Max. I don’t have a mag drill, but I use these bits in my mill a fair amount. I’ve given up on high speed though, as I work on stainless pretty often, and that will definitely burn the bit up even at low speed. I’ve found that carbide goes through like butter. I’m interested in buying a mag drill for no reason I can think of other than “why not”. I’ve also found out that high end, expensive bits don’t seem to work better than cheap bits, if you get the right ones. It’s interesting that if they didn’t give the possibility of using the handles on both sides, the coolant tube wouldn’t have been a problem.

    I’m thinking I might try the DeWalt. Not as expensive (in the US) as the top tier options, but probably not as refined. But maybe acceptable quality levels? I usually don’t cheap out on tools, but for something that’s occasionally use? If I were an iron worker or trailer maker, my choice would be different. The Dewalt is $900. The standard size Fein/Juicy Slugger is $1700 (USD).

Actually told/showed flaws!) And it's different when you purchase these products and it's garbage, that's money down the drain and time lost that could be getting project done so can make Money back. Just wished things were made in country, instead of overseas in sweat-shops and from your videos watched, believe you'd rather not deal with crap imported trash, again sir mean no ill will towards you or anyone else, just tired of this trash in marketplace!
