You definitely *don't need* to play Replicant before this. I started the Nier series with this, and went back to Replicant. Either way you do it, there are surprises going from one to the other! Nier Automata became my favorite game of all time. That spot was originally held by Chrono Trigger for 25+ years. Needless to say, this game is a one-of-a-kind experience. You will never play another game like it. Because there quite simply is nothing else like it. Replicant is an amazing game as well. I just honestly think Automata is even better in a lot of ways. (I would absolutely watch through an entire playthrough of this game, or this series in general. The story/music is just on another level compared to 95% of other games out there.)
As someone who played automata before replicant, I would recommend starting with Replicant as Automata will hit harder!! Also because automata is more modern, so the transition to a more modern game would feel better than “downgrading” if that makes sense. But whatever you prefer really - Chronological order or sequel -> prequal order to recontextualize things! Would be fun either way
If you want to get into Nier and have a comprehensive understanding of the story, it technically starts with Drakengard 1's Ending E. I do NOT recommend playing Drakengard 1, it is a hot mess, but watching a story summary would be a good idea. Klemps has a very entertaining one. Next would be the Nier Replicant remaster. Just know that Nier Automata will spoil Replicant, but you don't NEED to play replicant. Also, don't get too wrapped up in the sidequests. Only do them if you're really interested or they seem easy or give you something. There is a quest where you need to crossbreed flowers over several real-time days and I'm pretty sure Yoko Taro put it there to mess with completionists. You don't need to, but it's a wild and interesting world.
You don't need to play Replicant before Automata. I played Automata first. Whichever you play 2nd you'll find some connecting dots, but the two games are set thousands of years apart in the timeline and while there is unifying background lore it's not necessary to understand or enjoy the plot (which I would say the story telling is as good as the music)
One of the most emotionally charged and powerful soundtracks of a game I've ever heard. Like others have said below, this game and it's music is just so unique. Like people from another planet made them.
The song that you were asking about for the second last trailer @10:59 is 'Emil Despair' It is another rendition of the Emil's soundtrack from the 1st game NieR Replicant. You can check out the NieR versions, i am not ashamed to admit that i cried when i first listened to 'Emil Sacrifice' (even when i didnt play the game).
I'd recommand playing Replicant 1.22 (remaster of the original NieR game) first before Automata but it doesn't matter that much (even though Automata spoils Replicant) Both games have a different feel but this series is just fantastic I never experienced anything like this and for a while, I felt empty whenever I got to play other games haha I'd be excited to watch you play both games
I just subscribed to your channel because of your previous nier video of song of the ancient song, and this is the 2nd video of yours I'm watching, and I'm really amazed of how you have discoverd some important things of this game just by watching the trailers!
Hi there I am new to your channel and came across to this video on “NiEr” games. As I got to say that I am a fan of Automata and the series it brings. The game is a great to beautifully crafted game that brings so much emotions to come out 🥲 I hope you get to play it and witness the “Glory” that the developers put in this game. Also there are so many different outcomes in this game that have i believe around 25 endings but canonically it being around 4 endings. With that said, I hope your a RPG gamer with this game to step up like Final Fantasy series but more impactful and having outstanding content in the game. Also there is a anime out based on this game and the book series. If you have a chance, give it a watch as the has the English version that the Voice actors from this game done the voicing for the anime.
Drakengard 3 Drakengard 1 NIER gestal/Replicant NieR Autómata I am New here so i hope you can continúe playing Final Fantasy 14, you gona get one hell of a Surprice.
Welcome! New episodes of Nier Replicant and FF14 going live soon on the channel. Also streaming FF14 over on Twitch a few times a week now if you want to see more FF14 content.
NieR Automata is not a game, it's a life experience.
Wrong it's not a game or a life experience it's art ❤ 🥰

@@SolitarySaturn Awesome!!! Hope you will enjoy NieR: Automata as much as we did!!!
Nier Automata is a great game, definitely is a unique one too with the varied gameplay modes and very existential/psychological story
