Dear Nigel, I’m very happy you take care of yourself, and put on a fan when you’re working in so warm greenhouse. Never worry about sound, health is the most important, and heat stroke is no joke. Stay safe and well hydrated like your trees 😃 Thank you for work and updates 🥰
Yep succulents make for a beautiful bonsai trees I started with Ficus trees too but now my greenhouse is full of Adenium bonsai trees. And people love them, at least on my channel these are most watched video's so more and more people starting seriously making succulent bonsai trees. I love your Baobab, I finally got some seeds this year and they are growing. Hade to watch you old video with seed few time to insure that i do right thing 😀 So technic passed 👍THX Nigel
I'm looking forward to what the Kapok will turn into - the Baobab as well. Really fascinating species! The Cashews really got quite big. I hope the trunk chop brought good results!
That's right Nigel, it's difficult to grow lots of balanced branches on a kapok tree, there will definitely be dominant branches and the smallest branches will be weak and lose, but I once did Nigel's experiment, when I finished pruning my kapok tree, in the next few days when the shoots started to grow , I noticed that if there was a dominant shoot I would cut it a few cm from the top, this succeeded in balancing the growth of the other branches, and the branch that was cut earlier would immediately appear new shoots without any problems because it came from the tallest and strongest branch, in the end all branches grow in balance. and that's just cutting to balance growth, not cutting to form the tree structure. Structural cutting is carried out in a few months after all the branches have been cut and shaped.
@@TheBonsaiZone I'm sorry Nigel, I forgot to say that I did this experiment on trees planted in the ground, I don't know whether these tips are effective on trees that are in pots, but it's worth a try, I haven't tried it yet because my kapok tree is still in the ground directly, not yet. I put it in the pot
I have lots of Portulacaria afra's and 1 that's been training as a Bonsai and have two Baobab that are 2 thick cuttings that rooted and starting to side branches. I'm South African, love how you develop woody succulents as Bonsai's. My rule is you can apply Bonsai tactics to any plants. I love to experiment. Currently trying our Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana). They germinate quite easy from seed. Semi fast growing and can handle heavy root pruning. My oldest Sausage tree is almost 2 years and the base thickness is already almost +20mm. You should try get seeds of them. Wish I could send seeds. But Im not close to any facilities to send them.
Around where I live there are these old willow trees that grow next to a river, and when they get too old they fall over but keep growing new branches, so they grow in kind of a natural raft style. I think that would make quite an interesting inspiration for a bonsai. Maybe not with a willow but rather a willow-leaf ficus?
Have you ever tried an Aeonium? Another succulent suitable for bonsai. I have a really nice one that I've managed to keep small with branching and a really nice trunk, 5 years old now. It grew some aerial roots at one point but when I tried to grow more on purpose the trunk rotted, but it survived standing on those roots, and now it's a root-over-rock style!
Great catch up on some awesome trees nigel. Hope your cashew tree sprouts new branches from the chop back. Interesting to see them develop. Would you not try to plant top as cutting .
Hi Awesome video! I have been growing one of these trees for about 10 years as a Bonsai Trees. I absolutely love this tropical Bonsai. I'd like to share some pictures with you if you are interested. Keep up the great content. Thanks!
You're going to show the schefflera with big leaves just to be a contrarian to those who hate on you, I know it. It does look charming with the big leaves, though!
that Korean maple is turning into a great little tree. i haven't seen many examples of K maples in shows...perhaps an underrated species? i love J maples but i have to admit it gets monotonous when every maple is a J or a trident
Daggum, that’s warm!
Only the Ficus love it!!

I think he was worried about trees same as for himself 😄almost 50 degrees that's almost fried trees.
Some interesting tree species that I haven't heard of before! Thanks for sharing 👍
Great trim! Everything looks nice and healthy. I lost a few favorites from the cold. Hard lesson for sure... But that's how we learn, and remember...
The K tree is interesting. Nice the way you explained your thoughts on pruning.
Nice work today Nigel. This heat is oppressive. Today and tomorrow (when Dave is in my backyard!) is going to be killer hot with T-storms. Hydrate.
Thanks Steve, I was getting the backyard ready for Dave's visit today, with the help of Michael!! He's be here on Tuesday!

Nice updates!
It’s a delicate balance keeping those alive and thriving so far out of their comfort zone.
Thanks Oluf, It's one of my favorite tree species!!!
FOURTYEIGHT DEGREE CELSIUS?!?! I'm not surprised some of the trees' leaves are drooping :D
If I hade 48 degrees in my greenhouse I'm making Ice tee for each of my trees 😄
Lol!!
I think the trees are fine, but I think I was drooping a bit!!!

My baobab trees, 2, are in a dormant state yet. My one just leafing out. The other is fast asleep yet.
you've lost quite some ruthlessness in terms of branch cutting over the last years :D

34°C would not be called ”Quite pleasant” in Sweden🥵😂
I hear you, it takes me all summer to get used to the heat!!
many yrs ago i had a Guitar that was a Kapok, whether it was made of Kapok wood i cant say ?
Have you fund the tree for your halloween project Nigel ?
Not yet, but the Apple tree might be a good one!!
