This bloke is not exaggerating,that’s the finest fish and chips on earth. I lived in fife back in the 90’s,often went through to anstruther for a fish supper,such a wonderful treat. I’ve worked all over Britain,eaten fish and chips the length and breadth of the country. This fish and chips is far,far above any I’ve ever tasted.
Nonsense chat, been twice first was good, second time was a joke one measly bit of fish,and average amount of chips. Tail end in St Andrews was just as good if not better. At weekends there obvs cutting portions down and taking same money. Wouldn’t rush back

I was just there in November 2023 and having tried many other fish and chips this was THE BEST! 2nd Time watching this and again with every bite tears are welling up in my eyes, because I know what he is experiencing!

you should have no doubts my friend iam going to punn this comment by saying the proof of the pudding is in the eating so you should make a special trip to the place this fish is not from a freezer it is landed every morning 4am and distributed to delivery vans and the local fish shops it is the fresheness and cooking methods what wins the awards everything is top quality and unbeatible food go try it

It is mate, believe me, I'm Scottish, I'm 63 years old and have lived here my whole life, and even i haven't seen all of Scotland. Like every other country it has its good and bad, ugly and beautiful, the area of Fife where this guy is is beautiful, St Andrews, Crail, St Monans, Pittenweem, and Anstruther are all just minutes from each other, and the guy tells no lies, the fish and chips from the chippy on the sea front is to die for.
Aye jay, take a camera with ya, ken, ya'll get a monster portion.

If your wife likes nice scenic views and throw in a historic tour of Edinburgh then Scotland is an easy sell.

Been going there for 40 years and it has always been the best chippy it used to be a 100 yards away next to the pub and the old guy with the fish stood outside not been for a few years now I'm going to take a run up at the weekend😁

I'm Scottish, been there multiple times, and honestly it's a good thing it's not my local chippy cause I'd be double the size I am now. Without question the best chippy I've ever been to.

Agreed, tried many fish & chip shops up and down the country, found some really good ones, but Anstruther is in a different league to them all.
After your 1st visit I travelled up to try there fish and chips out for myself & they were the finest fish & chips I have ever had in my life! I might travel up there again in the next couple of weeks! Great review of the best chippy on this planet!⭐️🤗

I started watching you after you review of Flout because I love pizza and live in Belfast now. I'm so glad to see you now review Anstruther because its also been our pinnacle of fish and chips for about 15 years. We've lived in New Zealand and Australia for the past 10 years and all fish and chips since leaving Edinburgh have been benchmarked against Anstruther. I can't wait to go when we visit Scotland in April.

Best chippy in the world . I travel from Glasgow every now and then and it’s mind blowing. Never had a bad fish from there . God bless lads 👏🏻👏🏻

We go there everytime we do a St Andrews tour (only 9 miles up the road). Hands down, best chippy in Scotland!
I went there 12 years ago and it still looks the same . The batter is amazing and the curry sauce is second to none

Love this review Matt. I remember the first time you went there and now after years later hearing the food is still levels above ,makes me realise a solid 14 hour round trip could well be worth its weight in gold. Keep up the great content, Big love 🍻
Why not make a long weekend of it, it's a very scenic area of the world, StAndrews is just around the corner plus a bunch of other very scenic small villages, only an hour and a half away from Edinburgh and all of it's tourist attractions.
@@24magiccarrot Absolutely, I wouldn’t drive all that way just to eat something and drive back lol I would certainly visit a few places in and around the area but this fish bar is the main attraction. Or it bloody better be 🤣
@@benbarnard4233 If you want more good food places in the area there's a fish n chip shop in StAndrews that has the best ice-cream I've ever had. And get to Abroath and try an Arbroath smokie very similar to a kipper but a million times better.

Next time your there you need to try the wee chippy which is just along the road towards the hill you drive down to the harbour. Compare both Chippy’s. Might very well be the top two you will have tried
Last time we went to Anstruther, we were trying to see the humpback whale that was out in the Firth at the time. Didn't see it, but why waste an 80 minute drive from Edinburgh. Then to the famous chippy. No joke, we were expecting an hour long queue, but, the queue went up a lane and continued up the street we managed to park in, the last time we came, when the queue was only a couple of meters from the shop door. Short story, we went to the wee chippy described above. It was also a great fish supper. I'd love to do a comparison. Pretty hard with these queues though. Maybe a top notch chippy comparison website could do just that? You might need a panel though. I could be available :)
Wee chippy is far better , Anstruther chippy is for the tourists.

We used to take day trips to Ansturther regularly when we were kids and always went to this chip shop, and yes on weekends people were queued out the door and it hasn't changed. looks the same as it did 20+ years ago. I'm never felt emotion over someone else eating food before but today i was. You're welcome back to Scotland anytime.
Without doubt the best review FRC has ever done those fish n chips looked absolutely outstanding I’m definitely driving up there at the weekend to get some , fantastic review 👍🏻
I love going to Anstruther for fish and chips. You can't beat it for the fish and the great wee harbour across the road from the chip shop is stunning

I’m here in Fife and it is really excellent that place, worth queuing for in my experience.
Anstruther Fish Bar is definitely in my top 3. The Bay in Stonehaven is another excellent chipper. With Fochabers Fish Bar another great feast. The best in England i have ever had was in Porthleven, in Cornwall.
You ought to see the queues at this shop during the summer, you sometimes have to wait at least an hour or more to get served, the people come for miles away to eat fish and chips 🍟.
First time I've never seen the queue up the street around and up the next street too 😂
I’m live here in Fife and it is really good that place, worth queuing or even a day off work to visit in quieter times, mid-week off-season.
Facing that chippy, if you go down the road to the left there is another chippy, believe it or not the locals say is even better, its called The Wee Chippy on Shore Road. Maybe next time you are up it might a good video to do a back to back comparison?
Graham Love .......ive tried both and Anstruther Fish Bar is best ..............Never come to Dundee for a chippy as they are all crap compared to Anstruther (and you get smaller fish too)
Wee chippy is just as good and can get served in half the time.
IF you decide on a 3rd visit, try the monk fish. Stunning

That's def a shout. I've been to this fish n chip shop multiple times, but the Monk fish is next level.

As a nation we have been conditioned to accept very poor standards of fish and chips. My local chippy has a ☆☆☆☆ star rating and the batter is mush and falls away from the fish every time and this is common everywhere. It's nice to see there is still good places out there.
Place in Hamilton used to be awesome, Equi's - last time I went in the batter was really poor, it was bitter, the lady owner came over and asked if we liked our meal ? I said it was rotten, I gestured for her to try the fish I had left, she did and I could see she was annoyed, it was like they had put in baking powder and really messed it up.
She told me when we were leaving to go around and get a cone for my daughter ''on the house''
never did as I was pissed off at such a poor fish & chips, never been back since.
Usually the Asian run ones are terrible, avoid like the plague

Had a lot of caravan holidays in Anstruther when I was a kid, and the chippies were always a highlight.

‘Ainster’ fish bar is amazing! Live South England now but grew up in Fife and had family in Anstruther so many great memories eating at that chippy. Now I hope you nipped up to St Andrews to Fisher & Donaldson for another Fudge Donut review 😜. Keep up the content lad love your energy! 💪🏻

Been to that fish and chip shop hundreds of times and your correct, it has to be the best chippy in the uk, normally in the summer months you'll queue for at least an hour to get severed.
Originally from Fife, we still come here for our fish and chips at least twice a month. Never disappoints. Should also try the haggis - amazing as well.
Of course it is, klaatu..get tae. The amount of people that have "been there", must 24 hr, ken .

I’ve been there, he’s not joking, best and chips ever. Nearest I’ve had was in Mevagissey, Cornwall, No 1 and 2 in the UK.

I’m a Fifer and folks travel for miles to that beautiful harbour and the fish and chips are out of this world. Nice in the summer when its warm the bikers are out with their beautiful machines all lined up down the road.

I live 8 miles away from this chip shop. I can assure you the queues of excited customers confirm the quality of this shop.
I live in England now but I'm from a town very close to Anstruther, and I still wax lyrical about this fish bar. I visit everytime I'm home, it really is unparalleled.
This is 10 minutes from where I live. Blessed and proud to have Anstruther Fish & chips whenever I want.

I used to go here once a month on my motorbike from Aberdeen, fantastic. My late uncle George, allways said that the the Wee Chippy, just along the road is better.
I live in West Lothian - it’s 100% worth the 1.5hr drive for dinner by the seaside! You’ll never get a better chippy and that’s just a fact.

I have fond memories of going here with my parents as a wee boy.picking Wilkes and mussels on the beach with my dad brother and sister. Then we got to sit on the wall at harbour sharing a big fish supper. I'm an hour and a half away and every time I'm up golfing it's followed by a drive to the chippy a walk on the beach and a wee sit on the wall with my fish and chips.and a wink to my da

I have had the pleasure of eating there a few times. They are amazing. We sit in with a cup of sweet tea and bread and butter. Locals say that the fish & chip shop around the corner from there is just as good. 😮

Went there in November 2022 after a road trip through Scotland, batter is quality
I go there often, and am usually very happy. Went there a few weeks ago now, and must have caught them on an off day as it was "okay" at best, 3/5. (Usually it is 5/5 as the review suggests). However, a couple days ago I went to the chippy in Juniper Green (Edinburgh), wasn't expecting anything out the ordinary, and had my socks blown clean off! It was easily as good as Anstruther on a good day. Will be keeping my eye on that place to see if lightning strikes twice, as the other chippies in that general area are all sub-par.
Not been to this one but have heard its very good, so will pop in the next time I am in the area.
The one at Largs and Troon are also top notch.

Living in Fife , I can concur with this 25 mins in car from were I live, it is no exaggeration it is the best I've ever tasted. Once a month trip to Ainster ( scottish slang for Anstruther)

new subscriber from near Glasgow! I swam in three nearby tidal pools and finished with a Fish Supper at this amazing spot, absolutely outstanding (easiest pronunciation is ANNstrutha)..... whereas Irn Bru, emphasis on the BRU. Cracking vid, genuine passion for what you do is clear to see

Can't argue as we're not far away and it's chippy heaven and the perfect spot to sit out and eat it. Glad it was as good as you remembered as it's not the easiest place to get to.

You must have been there on a one of bad day even the best has them. I've been there at least 10 times in the last 20 years and have never had a bad experience.
Believe me, my friend I was in Anstruther on a few occasions in the 80s and you are 100% bang on even back then it was the best fish supper I had ever tasted im from Glasgow. We had a holiday caravan there back then.

I live just outside glasgow and everyone including myself thats been to that chippie say the same. Its the best fish supper money kin buy. Its the ONLY chippie that does chippie chips that are CRUNCHY and fluffy inside. The fish aswell is outstanding. Crispy and meaty inside with no grease. Every chippie, ye get greasy shitey chips and a ratty greasy bita fish. Hands doon best supper money kin buy🏴

You need to try the sea food shack in Ullapool, the Haddock wrap is sensational… again freshly caught and landed fish…
I think the two up the road in St Andrews - Cromars and Tail End - are both better, although these are still good. And you should check out Colemans in South Shields on your way home. Probably my favourite in England
