    Don't know why you keep calling it Anstrutter rather than Anstruther. The th sound is the same as in rather. Though locals, like my mum, always called it Enster.
    The other local chippy is just as good, if not better. And not as expensive. At least not when I was there last.

    The wee chippy further along the harbour just beats it. Fish in both is amazing but the wee chippy is less rushed and on proper plates! If the fish bar is queued out go along to the wee chippy!

    It certainly looked good and although I wasn't able to try it, I reckon you assessed it well. The only reason I would think about marking it down was because for a so called top rated fish and chip restaurant, they could have presented the food on a plate rather than in a box. I think you may have marked other places down on the same grounds. You didn't mention the tea, and to be fair you should have given the ice cream a go - an opportunity missed?

    been there many times over the years and their fish is best , I was brought up in a chippy and had 1000,s over the years and Ainster is up with the best of them , went to the wee chippy once and I didn't think it was as good but everyone's taste is different .

    • @79RockShox

      You just drive over the border from England to Scotland and vice versa, no one and nothing will stop you, different for Ireland as you need to get a ferry or fly which I suppose means proving you have had the convid jab.

    • @24magiccarrot
      @24magiccarrot 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It also helps that, that Haddock was swimming in the North Sea the morning that it ends up on your plate.
      Scotlands about the only place where that can happen, even the best fish markets in England the fish needs to be packed in ice for at least a day before it reaches the market. Pittenweem is selling fish that was caught at 4am at 8am for it to be served at 5pm on the same day it was caught.

    Last time I went to Anstruther, there was a long queue in front of this place. Unlike some of the "award wining" chippies where employees tend to develop an "attitude", Anstruther Fish bar seemed quite decent in terms of staff education. In Scotland bread whether toasted or not inevitably comes with fish & chips in the name of "Fish Tea", to fill stomach with smaller amount of fish, in the same way as Yorkshire Pudding does to save the amount of roast beef in Sunday Roast. Anstruther Fish bar has natural advantage in the freshness of material (you can actually see from your table the trawlers bringing in the haddock for you.) For information, not a few fish & chips shops in Scotland were originally established by the immigrants from Italy, hence excellent ice cream.

    I haven't been to Anstruther, however I have been to the Seaforth in Ullapool and to the Allan Water Cafe in Bridge of Allan. I know people who have been to Anstruther and to these others and say that the Seaforth and the Allan Water cafe are both better. Unfortunately the Seaforth has changed hands and I have heard bad stories about the new owners running it badly, however the Allan Water cafe I believe is as good as ever and I love it. Your meal in the Anstruther, I would give it a 9.8, purely because I thought the fish was small, compared to the other two I mentioned it was very small. I must make a point of visiting Anstruther to try it though, and the other wee chippy, I am curious!

    Eating in the restaurant I would expect my fish and chips to be served on a plate not a cardboard box.. Curry sauce,peas and tartar sauce served in ramekins of some sort not takeaway containers, especially when eat in prices are considerably more. 8/10

    Looked good, but I prefer one big fat fish fillet as opposed to two thinnish bits. Less batter = healthier and the fish tends to be a softer texture. Lot of hype surrounding that place, a bit like the Magpie in Whitby which I don't rate personally...... Maybe try some of the others when you go back as a comparison.

    Looks good mate. But, as you know in England there are fab fish & chips and each has its fans. Lemon squeezed over fish is great. I would say your meal is just behind the English version getting a 9.5 out of 10. Safe trip home!

    You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make mcmaster pronounce anstrutter (like butter) as anstruther (as in brother) 😂

    Anstrutter?!! An-Struther or Locally Ainster

    Fish Supper for me please! Possibly go for the 'Special Fish' this time
    Also Anstruther pronounce it - 'Ann' and 'Stru-ther'
    If it was Anstrutter it would have 2 x tt together but it has a 'th' in it..

    I find it weird that you think it's weird for there to be an ice cream counter in a fish and chip shop. In Scotland, it is not uncommon for fish and chip shops to be run by Italians, and with that comes good-quality ice cream.

    • @ChrisJ294
      @ChrisJ294 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's weird about not knowing that?

    • @24magiccarrot
      @24magiccarrot ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisJ294 Cause it would be weird to be in a country that has a type of shop mostly ran by italians for them not to sell an item commonly sold by italians. It would be like going to a chinese and there being no prawn crackers.

      @@24magiccarrot I don't know. Loads of chippies in England are now Greek owned, but you don't expect to get loukoumades served there. Not being nasty mate, but ice-cream and any kind of desserts aren't usually expected in chip shops.

    Didnt think it looked great to be honest but i guess taste is what counts .I thought the chips looked anaemic as they seem to do everywhere nowadays .When i was younger chips always seemed to taste better and were always golden brown ,Nowadays many seem to have the frozen oven chip look maybe its cheap poor potatoes that wont brown.Many eateries seem to serve frozen chips which is a sin and i wont eat in them but its getting harder to find places the serve proper chips

    • @24magiccarrot
      @24magiccarrot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If chips are cooked in the right kind of oil they don't brown the potato, browning is usually caused by an oil that overheats, use the right oil you'll end up with paler looking chips but they'll be fluffier on the inside but still crispy on the outside but without going brown.
