- Today we visited Upton's Of Basset in Southampton, and we did NOT expect to find what we did. This place has everything from a butchers to a deli bar, from a coffee shop to a place to learn knife skills and how to make sushi. This place does it all. The passion we found here was infectious, and the quality of everything we tried completely blew us away. Southampton you should be proud of this place

Ireland has great hot delis at almost every service station. May Greggs never taste Irish soil, too many bland chain brands in UK. Have to say their sausage rolls are boss though.

I’m 27 and been a butcher since I was 13. I’ve worked all the way from the bottom to now being a full time beef boner. I would just like to say a massive Thankyou for showcasing a proper British butchers. People need to understand that a couple of quid extra in a butchers for a product you will remember means much more than putting a couple of quid in a supermarkets pocket. Thanks very much. I might need a trip to Southampton from Yorkshire now 😂

I've used Uptons for years, a great place and thanks for reviewing it. We love the Jalapeño Pork Sausages from there, superb. 👌👍

My mate owns a butcher shop. To be fair, the extra couple of quid on a weekly shop is money well spent. The difference in the quality is so noticeable. During the pandemic, when meat was hard to get hold of, his business grew. People that had never been to a butcher before were amazed the meat wasn't wrapped in clingfilm. His business has grown, and the local butcher is gaining popularity again. Not just here, but nationwide.
But the butcher in this video is another level again.
I will be visiting just for the bacon butty.

The algorithms brought me here so I thought I'd take a look, but I didn't expect to stay to the end. That soon changed though with the excellent review and the amazing venue. I'm so jealous I don't live closer! A superb find and I bet you can still remember the tastes a week later. That aside, I can't believe how good Micky Flanagan is looking! 😁

I have been watching you from the very beginning. This is up there with probably the best review you have done. The owner was amazing great energy him and his wife have. Also the food.....absolute WOW I'm from Sheffield but worked away for 10yrs down Portsmouth. I'm devastated I have only just found out about this place. Southampton is only a short drive away from Portsmouth. The channel is only getting better and better.... Keep up the good work lads. 🤜🤛🏾

When you had your first bite of the beef sandwich, and you went quiet for a few seconds, I thought you were going to cry!

This is my local butcher so glad to see you giving Simon and his team the praise they deserve. The best breakfast out there. Next time you are there try the heart and short rib burgers they are really special.

I work 5 minutes from there and it’s not good having Uptons so close, we call in on the way , collect bacon sandwiches and coffee’s for my nurses, it’s simply amazing, it really starts the day. I now think we’re going to have to give the hot brisket rolls a try, lovey mmmm.

Exactly what you said, we constantly hear about shops struggling, especially in the current downturn, but if more owners and staff had the passion to provide such top class quality as these guys, more shops would be successful. People will pay for quality.

You should definitely get involved in one of those cooking classes. I’ve done the Sushi and Sri Lankan ones and they’re such a laugh. Beers / Wine, new friends in a room having a laugh and giving something new a go. Properly good

Loved this one. The place is awesome. Exactly how it should be. You need to come Norwich and try Archer's. Butchers and hot food. It's scrumptious 😋
Upton's is the best! Simon and his team are top notch. His whole hog roast is amazing, we hired it for our engagement party. Absolutely gutted we don't live around the corner any longer. Sausage rolls and steak and eggs are my favourite, but the bacon sandwich is divine

Bought a few rashers to take away and some lovely-looking sausage rolls and scotch eggs.

Off the beaten track a nice find or should I say an exposure!! The weird thing I pass that roundabout very often yet never knew Upton's existed. I luv a decent butchers over crappy supermarket butchery. Seems we are similar in our tastes bud, a good bacon sarnie unbeatable, I always liked green back bacon from the butchers, proper butcher pork pie, pork chop with kidney left in, calves liver, all things you don't get other than in a good butcher shop.
The caramel shortcake is a bonus and again one of my faves So, I will def visit this gaff soon that's a given. Keep up the good work matey.

Visit Parkin Butchers in a little place called Crowle. Bit different for the channel, breakfast sandwhichs on point and sausage rolls homemade in house.

This place is amazing not far from the hospital…uni kebab is also award winning kebabs, however should try Scott’s the butchers in Dundee, I generally order online but when seen family in Scotland that’s the place!

You need to get yourself to GH Porters, in Newark on Trent. Hands down the best bacon anywhere. Sugar Pit Smoked. Amazing. Been open since 1880, they're struggling at the minute which is a shame

I love places like this we need to focus more on local produce and prop up our communities there’s some of the best produce in ireland and the uk and it’s not used properly because supermarket corporations took over

The best way to caramelize the bacon is cook it slow it retains its fat brtter and chars better if its done fast it goes crispy snd breaks apaart . The bwcon looked beaut .
There’s a place near me called,greasy Tony’s! His personal hygiene is up for debate but,the fry ups are on another level!
