Back in the 'Old Days' we used to love modifying the Aquaclear 110 Cases for all sorts of things. Aquaclear is made from Injection Molded Acrylic, and any good Acrylic Type Solvent Cement works well for doing that. Still a good place for Aquaclear Replacement parts (U.S.) is BigAlsPets dot com. BTW. Try lubricating the Impeller Axel with a Very Thin (almost imperceptible) coat of Dow Corning Molykote 111 Silicone Grease. (Also great for 'O' rings and seals, and Faucet Cartridges, Etcetera.) And then a sponge on the Intake tube that goes into the tank to keep sand out of the Impeller. Otherwise, it's the same old grind.
My metal rod was detached and you helped me realize that. Same thing happened to my last hob filter. The rod separated. I’m so happy. I put it back and my filter is working. Thank you so much
I know this is probably an old video, but thank you a million! I could kiss you, I honestly thought my favorite filter was dead but using steps from your video 📹 I was able to revive my filter easily ❤❤❤ thank you!
You should note that if u have to change the shaft and impeller, your best off paying a bit more for an entirely new unit as it wont cost that much more.
I almos cryed because i spent a semnificant amount of money on my filter that I bougt just two weeks ago and I didn't want to buy a new one but thanks to you I am happy now and my filter is working as brand new ♥️❤️
Thanks. Used the information from this video to unplug the impeller unit from my sunsun hang on back. Did a through clean and greasing using silicon oil. The sound is almost zero now.
@QuebecCichlides, THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH! I am so glad you did this video! I am new to the whole aquarium thing, and I took my filter to an aquarium store because it didn't run, only to get it home, and within the next several hours, find it had leakked water, leaving about a quarter of the tank full! I looked up what to do and our video came up. You helped me fix my filter! I'm legally blind, so it's kind of a double victory for me. Azul (a veil-tail betta) and Bullet and Das (neon tetras) thank you, too. Dieu te bénisse!
Your video was a big help. Apparently my filter got clogged with tinny tiny snails. Cleaning out the impeller fixed that. Now I’ve got a foam filter over the intake to avoid that.
thanks for this video. turns out my impeller must have gotten dislodged when i pulled the the tube for cleaning. got it all back together and working. I thought the motor was bad when i tested it because it didn't do anything, but I didn't have the impeller in it when I tested it. didn't realize it was magnetic and essential to make the motor go. on our old one the motor turned the impeller. thanks for helping me understand how they work!
Is it normal for my filter to start dripping from the side it's not supposed to come out from because my filtration card quickly cloggs up after a few days how do I make it last a week or two without the flow being restricted
Mine was making nose replaced the shaft, but its still making a lot of noise, does the impeller wear out as well (wear away?) so it has to be replaced? I've had the filter for about 3 years.
Question? Doesn't the metal grinding off get into the aquarium water after a while and fish eat it possibly. Just something I was thinking about since it grinds down
The plastic piece that holds the fluval 110 came out of the bottom of it , the fluval hit my 65 gal I am thinking it broke the impeller going to try this thanks
DAM! I just tried pulling the steel pin from my Aquaclear 110 and it would not budge! I left it in for fear of making it worse.. any suggestions on removing that pin? I was using a good pair of pliers..
I have a trickle of water coming out of the side of the intake tube on my Aquaclear 70. Any ideas? I’ve moved the media around and re-leveled it. I never had this problem with my 50
The filter you show at :57 seconds does the same thing as mine. The water comes out on the sides of the intake spout is that normal? If I turn it down to minimum it stops but I need it turned up for water flow.
My motor keeps making a very loud noise whenever I plug it in, I have sand in my tank but whenever I take off the motor and rinse it out it still makes the noise. Shaft and magnet aren’t broken either... any suggestions?
If the shaft isn't broken, it could just be eaten up. If it's not "like new", it may be making noise. If it's in good condition, check to see if it fits snug in the motor. If it's loose, it'll always make noise. You would have to change the motor if that's your problem.
the propeller part wont come out what do i do? my local fish stores dont have a replacement and a new one is quite expensive Edit: only the plastic propeller part came off but the magnet is stuck thats why it stopped working for me
Try with plyers. If it doesn't come out, chances are that the motor melted and fused with the magnet 😢 If this is the case, you'll be stuck buying a new motor, shaft and impeller unfortunately. It's expensive, but shouldn't be as expensive as buying a new one.
If it's mbuna then you need to have a bigger group - I have more than 50 in my 110gallon and research the types of fish to ensure you have a mix that will work. If it's other cichlid types I have found that providing a territory for each fish with driftwood and rocks - blocks line of sight. Also having dark areas where the fish can hide and chill. In the rivers where these fish come from, such as the amazon the water is dark and there is plenty of driftwood for them to hide.
I once tried that but didn't do it right. I think it scared me for life and haven't redone it lol. It just kept leaking. Technically, that's a good way of fixing it too :D

Awesome!! I’m glad that I was able to help!

Almost went and bought a new one but thanks to your video.. I fixed it!! Thank you so much!
💪My pleasure!
Me too! All I did was clean the parts you showed me ! It was only. Few months old. Prayed and God showed me !! So glad !!
It seems like such an easy fix instead of having to replace the whole thing! I had no idea there were magnets in the filters...!
Lucky for us, not everything is like the unfixable Iphones 😂
Didn't realize I could take apart my hob. You saved me like 50 bucks thank you so much!
Glad I could help 🐟🤓
I am so very grateful to you for the lesson on how to restart my hob filter motor. Thank you so very much 💖
I did not know about the shaft replacement - Thank you!
My pleasure :D Glad I could help

Now that the water is flowing, I sleep soooo much better, too! It's amazing what a little DIY inginuity can do. Thanks again!
Great thanks very useful information..Can you now tell us how to get rid of that pesky calcium hardened on to the filter body .
You have to scrub it off 😝 There's no easy way unfortunately
Your video was a big help. Apparently my filter got clogged with tinny tiny snails. Cleaning out the impeller fixed that. Now I’ve got a foam filter over the intake to avoid that.
Nasty!! I'm happy to hear that my video helped you.
Hey, just want to say this saved me $40 and I'm super happy. Great video! Thanks so much!
Houray! Glad I could help!!
May I ask if a hob filter can suck up all fish poops or just the poops near the intake?
thanks for this video. turns out my impeller must have gotten dislodged when i pulled the the tube for cleaning. got it all back together and working. I'm happy I was able to help :)
thanks rishelle
you basically saved my life
Loved the video Richelle. Sand is very hard on pump impellers for sure. If you ever get a cracked housing you can patch it using methylene chloride.
I've never tried that. I once tried silicone but didn't do it right. I think it scared me for life and haven't redone it lol.
Think of the great video it would make. The motivation of all of us TH-camrs lol!
I'd be terrified lol. 😂
My filter sounded crazy...like a fire alarm or something...thank you so much for the help...my oscars really appreciate it😁😁🙏🏾
Glad I could help :D

I wonder if there are upgrade kits for filters. I've got some generic Chinese one. The only thing I'm curious is the filter pump inlet size
I don't think they are. Check out your Local Fish Store, maybe they have a more powerful model you might like.
Mine was making nose replaced the shaft, but its still making a lot of noise, does the impeller wear out as well (wear away?) so it has to be replaced? I've had the filter for about 3 years.
Sometimes it’s just the hole where the impeller goes that’s dirty… or a dirty impeller
I would replace/lube the o-ring whenever removing or servicing the pump
First. Haha. I use baking soda to clean my HOB filters motor. I drop it in a 1g bucket of water with 2 table spoons of the soda.
Thank you!! I fixed mine from the tips you gave!

The plastic piece that holds the fluval 110 came out of the bottom of it , the fluval hit my 65 gal I am thinking it broke the impeller going to try this thanks
I broke/lost all of my little pieces like that. I just use a styrofoam shim (or whatever I have on hand, once it was a rock)
@@QuebecCichlides thanks for the info ! I just took my fluval apart looked fine put it back together and it works
+1000 good juju points for making such an awesomely helpful, super easy to follow video!!! Thank you so much!!!
YOUR AWESOME I FIXED MY FILTER THANK YOU
Helpful, informative video. thanks 👍 😊
Thanks for the great walk through. I'm going to be taking my 110 apart this week to do some repair work.
It's a lot less complicated than it looks ;) Hope all goes well.
My HoB is gushing water through it too much where it is leaking through the crack where the lid/top sits.
Clean your filter sponge. It’s probably packed
DAM! I just tried pulling the steel pin from my Aquaclear 110 and it would not budge! I left it in for fear of making it worse.. any suggestions on removing that pin? I was using a good pair of pliers..
Get better plyers :P I use my strongest ones for this ridiculous endeavor.
@@QuebecCichlides I have very good 'PLIERS' (linesman) it would not budge..
I have a trickle of water coming out of the side of the intake tube on my Aquaclear 70. Any ideas? I’ve moved the media around and re-leveled it. I never had this problem with my 50
That usually happens to me when the foam is full or has to be changed.
Love spending time with you.
😁
So glad Seachem Tidal filters don't have any of those problems.
video helped so much, finally got it to work after a few weeks
How long did it take for the pin to get like that ?
Thanks for video. Very informative.
The filter you show at :57 seconds does the same thing as mine. The water comes out on the sides of the intake spout is that normal? If I turn it down to minimum it stops but I need it turned up for water flow.
Same. My media is floating to the top and raising the water level. Did you figure it out?
I just fixed my fish filter thanks to your video. It broke after a power outage. All I had to do was take it apart and clean it. Thank you!
Best video I’ve seen so far! Gotta get cracking on my two 110’s! #subscribed

You would have to change the motor if that's your problem.
the problem with my HOB filter is that the water is grounded, so my fish died because they were grounded.
Can you give me tips?
J’apprends quelques choses de nouveau apres chaque un de tes video... Merci d’un nouveau arrive dans le hobby des aquariums..Merci du Manitoba..
Merci pour votre commentaire Raymond :) Bienvenue dans le hobby!
the propeller part wont come out what do i do?
my local fish stores dont have a replacement and a new one is quite expensive

If this is the case, you'll be stuck buying a new motor, shaft and impeller unfortunately.
It's expensive, but shouldn't be as expensive as buying a new one.
If you have sand in the aquarium, you can slip a sponge over the intake as a pre-filter that you can squeeze out to clean every two weeks ;)
Clever Idea for that sand ;) I completely forgot about that little trick lol
Sorry for not getting back before, it was a crazy week!
Aqua clear 50 not suction water , motor is working ...what to do .... air not suction
Buy a new one. Or change to a Seachem Tidal filter.
I’ve cleaned it out, but it still makes noise
Thank you thank u thank you!!
Thanks for the informative video, appreciate the how to's :)
Thank you :)
The shaft inside my motor broke in half leaving a small piece stuck in the hole that I can't get out to replace it...hellllppppp
Please make video about cichlids aggression and how to control cichlids aggression.
Good idea. I'll look into it

My 110 had a crack I just dabbed silicone over it on the inside.

Technically, that's a good way of fixing it too :D
Thank you for these useful info, appreciated.....
Background music is really good
Thank you :)
Bravo❤
I'm glad your box wasn't broken....whew😓
Yeah, that's a little harder to fix 😉
Guys I m. New to this hobby just started this 2 months ago my hang on back is not working ALL OF A SUDDEN
Were you able to fix it?
Those parts are too expensive in US. If I have to replace both of the parts. It cost almost get a new 110.
No way 🥺 Sorry to hear that. Did you check out your pet store/fish store? Parts are usually cheaper than on Amazon
5:34 :)
Ha that’s what she said
So don't use ultra fine sand in your aquarium....
💕💕👌💕💕
😁
General rule, don't use sand.
Unless you like to change your filter often lol!
You are so beautiful 😍❤️❤️❤️😍...
What's that got to do with filters you pervert.
Cute lady
