Thank you so much! I literally just got this last night and it was super loud. Now it is extremely quiet you are a huge live saver because I can’t stand loud noises.
This worked for me. Brand new out-of-the-box (although looked like someone returned it once) AquaClear 70 with rattling noise. I had some DANCO Waterproof Silicone Grease, which I use for the O-ring on my Fluval 406 cannister flter. Used it on the shaft as you described. Now it is absolutely quiet. Thanks!
The plastic waterfall piece you have is absolutely perfect and exactly what I want to do with this filter, because I also hate the tinkling noise. I don't have a heat gun so I might rig up something cruder.
You mentioned that they won't start back up if the power goes out. That occasionally happens, but by no means all the time. When it does you don't need to clean the impeller or remove the intake tube. Instead just move the intake tube over to the side, like you'd do if you want to reduce the flow, then stick a toothpick or small wooden skewer in there and jiggle the impeller. That will get it going, then move the intake tube back.
my tank is in my bedroom and i used to use an old ass topfin 30 that would start rattling and make noises i never even thought concievable in the middle of the night. woke up crying one morning because i was so tired and went to buy one of these and,,, it's still loud! on the topfin i ran it with the lid off, had to use a rubber band to hold the intake in place and stop it from rattling, and had a plastic bottle baffle on the front. motor was old as shit, not much to do about that for this one im making a new baffle but the motor is also loud. my lid doesn't rattle but it makes the noise echo somehow, it's godawful. what lubricant did you use?
Mine did that right out of the box and for whatever reason, after a month of use, the thing went whisper quiet... not a peep out of it. Almost like it needs to wear in.
Mine is so loud I am getting ready to throw it out the window. Made this noise since the day I bought it. How often do you need to lubricate the shaft in order to prevent the noise?
I had a 110 that I bought over 14 years years ago and it works like a champ last week I bought a AquaClear 30 and right out of the box it rattles handle it doesn't even fit on it properly I believe that there is some type of defect that's going on these things can't possibly passing quality assurance test
Are you finding any low oxygen level issues with that sleeve? Seems like you have little to no surface agitation because of it. Pretty cool modification though.
No problems with low oxygen levels. At the time of this video, I only had 6 blue royal shrimps. One year later, I have 27 chili rasboras living in this 10 gallon planted tank and have no issues.

Go buy "3 in one" oil. It's totally NOT safe for any of your pets but a motor is a motor and it needs to be lubricated. What you do is , just put a one teeny tiny little drop on to the shaft and let it run down. Than do a S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedure) like when you would "charge" a canister filter with diatomaceous. That procedure is.... in a separate bucket from your aquarium, run your filter for 15 min, dump water because you'll have a little oil slick moving around . Do that again with fresh water for another 15 min or so. Now you have a nice lubrication and 90% of that oil run off has been taken out of the equation. You should also remove any media , sponges and filters while doing this. Once everything is up and running as usual you might see a little oil in the aquarium. All you do is use any technique you would use to remove normal protein oils . One way to do this is "displacement" . In other words go get ladle or pint container or whatever and gently dip it into the areas of concern just like you would remove fat from a chicken stock. Another technique is to simply drop a piece of blank paper from your printer on top of the aquarium water surface, wait two seconds and remove paper , discard paper in trash . Repeat this till you feel satisfied. It's more quick , more easy and less expensive than buying a slimmer filter (another freakin rip off). When you use jellies on moving mechanics you will eventually get so much gunk the bearings will freeze up . All that petroleum jelly is just aquafor anyway. In this particular case jellies could make things even worse. Keep in mind almost all these filter motors are magnetic . The thicker your lubricant the more disruption to the magnetic field .

Nice touch putting a sponge on the inlet... It's something I often recommend to others with the AquaClear HOB.
reef to collect any poop or food before it actually enters the filter Intake tube

Clean Living When ever you see bubbles when it does that it means it is putting oxygen in the water.
Thank you. Sorry for the late response. Good luck with your setup!
Clean Living Whoop sorry! Actually any surface agitation will help to add oxygen.
Dude, you rock!! I put a little silicone lubricant on the shaft of that noisy penguin impeller...no more noise. Brilliant! Thanks.
Dave Biegner I am going to try this!!!
Can you post the details of the plastic piece on the waterfall? I heard you say 2mm thick but where to buy, what brand or a link?
Even some noise on Eheim Canisters. Use Vaseline, or wait 3-4 weeks, so there is a bacteria slime around it.
Is it okay to use petroleum jelly? Is it safe to the fish? 🤔
@@aldenjopanda use cosmetic vaseline which is safe for hands etc, its waterproof too.
The slime thing I can confirm it's true, but who could wait that long?

What brand was the lubricant? I can't make it out.
Use Vaseline u can pull the shaft out with pliers makes it much easier
He said Moen
Till this day is the silicone still working with the noise?
Update on the Aquaclear?
Mine did that right out of the box and for whatever reason, after a month of use, the thing went whisper quiet... not a peep out of it. Almost like it needs to wear in.
PLS HELP If i leave it as it is will it cause any problem other than the noise?

Whenever it makes noise again
it's been working fine for years.
Were you able to fix yours?
I'm gonna try this. Hope it works
can i use Veseline ?
I hear that stuff ruins rubber
Just bought it and I noticed this immediately.
Same
I think the water sounds soothing tho .. it can actually cover the annoying motor noise
I applied silicone on the inside corner of the lid . No more noise
I have the same issue with my aqua clear 70, I ended up taping the lid down to illuminate the rattling noise.
I put my Eheim feeder on top of the lid. It's heavy enough to stop it rattling and I can remove it when it's time to clean the filter.
In my experience these filters are the quietest of all. I have never had any noise issue. My filters are the old version.
Does the motor get heated up? I bought aqua 50 I feel the motor gets pretty hot

I used a big rubber band around the filter and filter lid to stop the lid noise
Pervanesi araba motoru gibi ses çıkaran Dophin h80 filtrede denedim bunu ve sonuç mükemmel. Teşekkürler!
Vazelin mi sürdünüz?
Shaft cost $2-7 bucks. Thats all you need since the impeller looks good
2:50 'apply to tip of shaft' mmmm that's what she said ;)

Thank yoooou sir!
I used vaseline and I leveled hob filter no vibration.
Have been using my aquaclear for 17 years now i put vasaline on the metal shaft and my fish are ok my 110 aint as noisy as my 70
I've used these filters and had no noise issues ever, always very quiet
Some people just don't have enough to complain about so they make stuff up to bitch about.
Robert Schwartz it does make noise 🤷🏽♂️

Lol, you're crazy....
Exactly how mine sounds! So annoying!
Reinpressen nicht auftragen !
How to fix a aquaclear. Buy a Tidal!
Yep, Tidals clearly have much better quality control.
Bought one tidal 35 the noise is way too high. Bad luck.
Da boi shaking
You don't know his medical issues.
Im 5 years late on this but damn... shaky ass hands! LOL

sorry for the delayed response. the filter works, but is just noisy.
