    Now that we are entering Holy Week, the last week of Lent, let us remember that Lent is about spiritual renewal. I encourage you all to look at your life and find ways in which you can forgive others, especially those who are the most difficult to forgive. This doesn’t mean let yourself be taken advantage of by others or mistreated by them. It means giving them a chance to change and become better, and as for yourself, simply make different decisions in dealing with them in the future. God bless you all.

      The Catholic Church took the format of Lent from the 40 days in which Jesus was led into the desert to be tempted by Satan. It was a time of spiritual trial and effort. Within the Church, it was placed in the context of the time leading up to Jesus' passion, death and then triumphant resurrection. In this way, we spend 40 days preparing to commemorate the suffering and death of Jesus. In doing so, we strive to grow spiritually and become better people, and at the same time, by sacrificing and giving things up, we feel weakened as He did when He was in the desert for 40 days without eating. In the end, when we break our fast or sacrifice, we feel rejuvenated in some ways, and in that way, experience more deeply the resurrection, when Jesus came back to life. Thus, the whole effort is to enter more deeply into the life of Christ and grow personally in self-mastery through it all.

      Yes, it took a full day to record (I left out all the frames of me actually shooting just to keep this video from being any longer), and then a few hours to edit it all down. So it essentially took me two days to make this video, lol. Two days doesn't sound like much but when you have all the pressures I do right now, it wasn't easy to neglect my Master's Degree writing assignments for two full days. But, I essentially wanted to get this video done and off of my plate because it has been on my list of videos I wanted to get done for a bout 6 months now, lol. Now back to the school work! Lol!

    Thank you for the information. Once again a great source of data and I am glad Bowtech took care of you. Through my unscientific testing that the draw length (without tweaking) is proportional to the draw length.I shoot a Bowtech at a 27 inch draw length. At about 84 percent of the listed max draw length my arrows should be an estimated 282, which is surprisingly matches your data for the 27 inch draw length.

    Would be interested to see this done with a trad bow. Obviously the pounds go up as the draw length increases. But the difference in speed between 26 and 32 inches due to both pounds increasing and power stroke increasing would be interesting.

      @@seansoutdoors I understand that, only way I could think of would be to place measurements on your arrow, and get someone to tell you when you where holding at the correct position. • @seansoutdoors

    • @diarylivingfree
      @diarylivingfree 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seansoutdoorsThanks for the reply Sean. From what I have read 10 pounds of bow weight is around 15-20 fps differents. And for every inches of draw is around 10 fps. So a 50 pound bow should be around 45 pounds at 26 inches and 55 pounds at 30 inches. So in theory a 50 pound bow would vary between 40-60 fps a second. Which is a massive difference. To add to this I think the limb length is going to also make a huge difference. The difference between a 60 inch bow and a 68 inch bow. As a 68 inch bow stores more energy that might not get used in a short power stroke.

    What was the variation in arrow weight, or did you use one arrow for the test?
    Shame you didn't go down to my 23.5 inch DL. At 63.5 pounds draw I get right at 188 to 193 FPS.l, depending on the arrow (458 grain + - 10 grains) using an older Diamond Diamond Edge bow by BowTech.

    Hi Sean, I am made to understand that the poundage is consistent at 65#(&65.3#) at all different draw lengths, i.e. example, the bow is 65# at both 30” and 27” draw length, is this correct?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the bow. Typically entry level bows are designed for kids so the draw weight usually decreases as you go down in draw length. So, a bow that is set at 70 pounds at 30 inch draw may only max out at a 65 pounds draw weight at 27 inch draw. However, most of your flagship bows that cost 1,000 or more will maintain draw weight even when you decrease draw length

  • @kirkcreelman
    @kirkcreelman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not sure if you mentioned the brace height of each bow? That will affect the outcome for speed. Thanks.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If this was a comparison of which bow was faster that would have been a detail to take into consideration. However, it was simply an analysis on what the change in draw length will do to the speed of the arrow. In that sense, the brace height becomes a static component to what is being tested, but thanks for the input.

    • @kirkcreelman
      @kirkcreelman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures. Yes true, but when looking at effort applied vs. Energy out - it would seem that the PSE is overall slower but perhaps it's due to 1/2" less in starting position? This gives BT an advantage to overall speed but ends up in a near dead level comparison (12.7fps/inch linear ) due to overall draw length loss. The other factor is, as you start to bite off the back of the squarer portion of the curve you start to capture more of the initial draw making for an overall drop in the net energy available. Each bow will have different shaped envelopes so saying that there is a "fixed" loss due to draw is not always possible.
      In short, Great stuff! Thanks for taking the time to do the tests and share your results. It was super interesting.

      Because the string acts on the arrow for a longer amount of time, applying more force. If you put your fist one inch from a punching bag and hit it, how much would you impact it? If you held your fist behind your head and drove it forward for a strike and hit the punching bag, would it provide a lot more force than the one inch punch? For most people, the answer is yes, and that is because you have more time to drive force into the punch. The same happens with the string acting on the arrow.

    When you say "they gave me these bows" do you mean you get to keep them? Also, great testing - very thorough. In the end though, the old standby of "you lose/gain about 10 FPS for every inch of draw" pretty much holds true. In your test the average ends up as 13 for the Bowtech and 12 for the PSE if my public school math holds true. 10 FPS guesstimate is probably close enough?

I was just wondering is that normal, because I really liked the valley at 30”

      I had it done at one of my local shops, but yeah it looks like the string is hitting the draw stops at the right time. I figured when you shorten the draw length the cams must not rotate as far so that is what I was thinking caused it but I’m not sure.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dewaynenunley569 Did they switch the disk from comfort to performance setting? That could be what happened because you only get that nice valley in comfort setting. Performance setting wants to fly off the wall. Look at the flip disk and see what it says. The setting it is on is what you see. So if you see performance, then they put it to the performance setting. If you want that nice valley they will need to put it to comfort setting and you lose about 8 feet per second of speed. I keep mine on comfort setting regardless because I don't like the feel of performance.
      The other option is that the draw stop pegs are in the wrong spot.

      Have her pull 40 and see if she can comfortably do it. If not then she may need to start lower. I’d personally look at a bow with a large adjustment range to start like the diamond edge sb1 or bear cruzer G2. You can safely back it down to as low as she would need it to be able to comfortably and properly establish good shooting form and then you could increase the weight as she gets established. And if she wants to graduate into something else in a year or two then you could pass that bow on to just about anyone, child, youth, adult, etc....

      @@usbsol String seemed fine but the bow would never stay in tune. It went out of tune more often than any bow I've ever owned, so I got rid of it. The draw cycle also really hurt my shoulder.

    Hey Sean what bow are you using to hunt with?

      I have a bow being shipped to me right now that should get here by mid week. I am going to do some shooting with it and see how I like it, but I am currently thinking I will end up using it for hunting if it goes well. It's the APA Mamba 34tf. I am getting the limb stops on it, and am going to tinker with it a bit to see if I can get it to hang on the back wall a little better. If I can then I think that bow may be unstoppable for a lot of reasons. For one, I really like that you can press it anywhere as long as you haven't blowing it up and derailed the strings and cables.

      Those APA Bows look pretty rad! Never seen one in person. Wish they had more dealers in the States. Looking forward to seeing how that Mamba 34 works for ya!

      I asked them if they would sell directly to people and if they would also give me some form of kickback if people went to them to purchase a bow after seeing my videos on them. They said yes to both questions, but I'm not exactly sure of the parameters of them giving me some form of kickback. I got the impression it might just be a store credit toward purchasing a future bow or something, but I would be more interested in a spiff of like $20 per customer or something like that. Who knows. Anyway, I chose this bow because I liked it the best for what it can do. I just need to tinker with it to see if I can improve the way it comes off of the back wall. If I can get that down the way I like it then I definitely like this bow a lot.

      Saying God bless you is the equivalent of handing you a spiritual bag filled with a million dollars. If you don't want it just hand it off to someone else by saying God bless you to them and it will pass right over to them. God bless you.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. It all depends on the draw mods. Some bows can't hold peak weight when the draw length changes so it all depends on the bow what you can expect in the speed.

      @@seansoutdoors totally wrong. The equation is not up for debate.... it is physics.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@graphguy How about you take a Bear Cruzer G2, or Diamond Edge 320, and put it at peak weight which should be 70 pounds. Then take the same arrow, keep the bow at peak weight, and then start to change the draw length. Go ahead and calculate based off of 70 pounds and then shoot through the chronograph and see how your calculated number is not what the chronograph is reading.
      The reason is that the way they make the draw mods, you cannot maintain a weight of 70 pounds. Therefore, your equation cannot be used to calculate it based off of 70 pounds. Therefore, your equation will not give accurate results of what the bow actually does. Therefore, your statement is inaccurate. Go do the test, and then come back and tell me what you find.

      The point is, longer draw lengths will be faster, but not by even increments from one inch to the next.
