- The Brit Awards 2022 was full of moments, and many not exactly fashionable. There were of course lovely experiences like Joy Crookes & Adele, but many of the moments fell sort of flat. And others were just downright confusing, like Ed Sheeran's poorly fitted suit or Aitch's marshmallow sweater. The Brits need some help I guess.

haii i just wanna mention that in 14:32 you mentioned elements of southeast asian dress,, i just want to correct u that its south asian (bangladesh, india, etc) bcuz southeast asia (indonesia, philippines, thailand, etc) is a different part of asia that has a whole different type of traditional clothings, dresses, and fabrics.

If Luke is so enamoured by that "imagining" of a saree and dupatta (which I didnt even think of until he mentioned it cuz who even wears a saree with a dupatta, what he was calling the dupatta is actually just the pallu) then he really should look at actual south asian designers, his mind will be blown

Adele looks fabulous. What I really admire about Adele is she very proud of her working class roots but she isn’t afraid of very elegant and classic looks. She demonstrates not everyone from a working class background needs to fit this super edgy style trope when they get famous and not everyone who likes more classic looks has to start affecting an RP accent and act like they grew up in mansion in Surrey. Sometimes (especially in the U.K.) we think the baby has to go with the bath water when it comes to enjoying something “posh” and the reverse is true when wants to enjoy something “common”. Hence why we get Mockney acccents.
I don’t know if that’s a thing in the US but it a big thing in much of Europe and the commonwealth, this idea of stay in your lane & don’t mix and match things across classes. A reverse example is back when Princess Diana first wore jeans a lot of people thought she was basically trying to be relatable especially two days later she would be in a custom made ball gown. It’s like if you don’t do it 100% either way, you’re a fake.
I've heard that from Brits before, but no, we don't really have a prevalent "stay in your lane" culture in the US regarding fashion or enjoying things

I quite like the dress Olivia Rodrigo picked. It got very much 1930s Hollywood glam to it. It’s just a shame she didn’t lean into it. Someone’s gotta let her know that hair can be worn in different ways.

you should really review the mens figure skating outfits from the olympics ! a lot of athletes are dressed by famous designers and would be interesting to year what u have to say abt the designs !!
Yes! Some regular designers make sports outfits on the side, but there are also designers who specialize in designing for artistic sports including all forms of dance. I'd like to know who those specialist designers are. What history are they referencing? Are they ever referenced outside of sports contexts? How does one reference general fashion history when limited to stretch fabrics?
The Bree Runway dress wasn’t just a cape and a dress. The cape was actually attached to the dress, so it was all one piece. Super innovative.

I'm not a fashion expert, but a dupatta is often draped really sweetly over your head (for modesty, shade, or just for the lewk) so I wonder if Joy is referencing that. Love to see South Asian fashion rep!!

dupatta is just the term for like the shawl element of a salwar kamiz/lehenga ( the crop top, skirt image you showed as the example)

So a tip for wearing slits for the legs never unless its a fantasically FUN shoe wear ankle straps as it cuts off the leg - check out Angelina Jolie and Amal Clooney for how to do shoes that makes for perfect fit.

Saree is one long piece of fabric, mostly in the Indian subcontinent. Dupatta is also one piece of fabric but is used as an accessory and a part of a larger outfit.
