Joan really leaned into that part of her persona throughout the 40s and it made it's way into mainstream fashion. As someone with a hip heavy figure, I've always loved power shoulders because they are a great trick to balance you out, allowing a blazer to flow over the hips rather than get STUCK there....I loved Elle Fanning's sheer top/satin waistcoat/bowtie combo but the pants were jarring. I would love to have seen them in the matching satin. I think the pattern on the Marc Jacob's skirt was very art deco...The color scheme: bright blue and neon green really recalls the early 80s, which definitely had an art deco revival that was everywhere in fashion and design. Marc never fails to layer nostalgia in a way that says "I was born in 1970."

Vanessa looked like a freakin mermaid and cheers for that. And Helen Mirren-*chef kiss*. Even she’s doing 92k remixed. I’m not ready for the OTT ball gowns. I feel like awards season is a build up, from the long columns/women’s suiting and even some cocktail dresses with the guys in traditional suiting building to bigger dresses throughout the season. There’s still plenty of room for drama along the way, and at the same time anyone can wear anything the hell they want to wear at any time-but I also think everyone needs somewhere to go as the season progresses, with the showstoppers out for the Oscars, even if I rarely even watch the show itself anymore.
