Wow this is so much work. I thought it was just stop motion/ clay-mation superimposed over a guy, but he's actually sitting there while they swap the masks. Amazing.
I think on the newer episodes they now superimpose the animation onto the actor, i could be wrong but the movement looks different. I don't think the actor is used as a puppet anymore

I’ve been wondering for a while how you did it. Part of me suspected it was a live action person wearing a bunch of masks like a cross between Peter Gabriel in Sledgehammer and Jack Skellington, but another part of my brain was like “No… that can’t be it”
I had this dvd, and this has the honour (?) of being my introduction to KY jelly. No joke. Also, even though this was on the season 1 dvd, this doc was more focused on season 2. Not sure why both series couldn’t have been on one disk, that was just how dvds were at the time. It took a few more years for season 2 to finally get a dvd, but I think I’d lost interest at that point. Ps, remember that April fools BBC film with Terry jones and the flying penguins? Well, Darren worked on that as well, as can be seen on a BTS vid.
@@TheRealClankZoka I know where the studio is their in. It's Aardman's other building in Almondsbury, Bristol called 'Aardman Features' where they filmed Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep there.

This was only used for Series 1-2. Starting on 3 and 4 they used live action but strictly CGI imposed over them.
