    Charli is a great addition to your videos, if she is available you should bring her back. You two work very well together, it is nice to see a model in a photography video who is part of the discussion, not just a subject for the pictures.

    Charli is the best model that I have ever seen!
    She is extremely photogenic, she is pleasant, witty, and can ad lib on the spot quite well.
    Your photography of her is absolutely outstanding!
    You two have amazing chemistry together and it shows up in both the photography and the video footage 😊

    Great photographer, wonderful model (please bring her back!), great camera and settings; one wonders how good the new Oly lens needed to be🙂...really do think the photos were terrific and I see the qualities the lens brings to the images which you describe. Thanks for the review.

    Love your videos. Been an Oly guy for a while. Just got the EM1 MKII (I know it is dated now, but I'm up from the 10Mp E-520) You give very good explanations of products, including the cons and how to overcome them . Charli is a great model. Just the right blend of natural sharp and soft features.

    Jimmy seemed to have found the perfect subject to show off the quality of these Pro Primes. One can only wonder how many lenses Charli, has sold over the past 81,000 views. Something close to Charli’s image is what we all wish we could capture when we bought our own.

      Red35 Photography I think the best way to grow a bit is to make camera reviews everybody is interested in. This should be not more than some month after release date. All the unpopular but great channels grew because of one camera review. Checkout Evan ranft for example popular because of his fuji review (beside his fantastic content) keep the great work your channel is fantastic. Maybe make some analysis what people are interested in..all the best for you

      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Cody!!! I told you this is a great lens and it's definitely 'differen't to the Pana-Leica Nocticron in terms of image render for sure. I personally prefer this though the Pana-Leica may appear sharper from distant because of the optical design. But when you look closer, they are equally sharp at the focused area. This is where the 'feathered' bokeh taken place and renders the out of focus area smoothly and a great portrait trait to my taste.

      KentuckyMan30 Thanks mate!!! Grass is always greener on the other side ;) I love Fuji stuff too but I guess these days, we are spoiled with choices but no matter what system you choose, it’s the eyes behind the viewfinder counts. The photographer can adapt to whatever system he/she uses :) Thanks again for the support and much appreciated.

    So I’m at a cross roads. I’ve been shooting with a mft system for a few years now and have acquired a number of the oly pro lenses, though still missing the 17 and 45 (1.2). About a year ago I also purchased a full frame canon eos r and have acquired a number of their L lenses. The difference in ff to mft is undeniable but the shooting experience and FPS on my LUMIX G9 are far superior. My predicament lies in getting either the 17/45 combo from oly vs their equivalent but far older Canon EF glass - the 35 and 85 (1.4) price is still of course in play. I’d love to see a comparison of your 45 1.2 oly to its FF equivalent.. but have yet to see a TH-cam give it a try 😎

I've hit subscribe and look forward to watching more :-) I'm still trying to convince myself I need an OM-D-EM1-MkII with 12-100 and 300mmF4 for compact travel and wildlife trekking. I know this is a year late, but as I own the 75mm I just wanted to say it's a beautiful lens! Stupidly sharp and while it is a long lens. It's pretty much like shooting with a 135mm lens on a 35mm camera, which just a beautiful focal length. For its price, get it hands down!

    Great review, I'm would like to know which lenses best choice would be for gh5 between Olympus 45mm f/1.2 PRO and Panasonic Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2 My uses 90% for video. Until now I was sure I'm buying Panasonic lens... and now come new model but Olympus and its looks good. Need advise

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. Well, either are great lenses and very different look. I personally prefer the more natural look from Olympus but Panasonic is very sharp, a little too sharp for me. Another thing to consider is that Olympus’s manual focus ring is just great, much better than Panasonic so if you use MF a lot, Olympus may be better for operation.

    Great lens but the cost is out of most people's reach. I have the 45mm f/1.8 and recently purchased the TTArtisans 50mm f/1.2 for the time I need some extra light or extra bokeh. The total of those two lenses cost me less than £200. Of course this is a pro lens but I'm glad to have saved over £500 with my purchases :)

    Great review and many lovely photos of Charli (but it's hard to take a bad photo of her!!) Olympus also do a very highly acclaimed 45mm f1.8 for approximately one sixth of the cost of the f1.2, albeit not environmentally sealed, but I wonder what would be your opinion? Is it as good or is it better? And is it worth nearly six times the price?

      The different between affordable and pricey lens usually in term of generate more cleaner image quality, more beautiful skin tones, lovely rendering and low purple fringing at widest open.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris for watching the review mate! Charli is indeed beautiful and talented! Ok, in terms of worth, to me, as a working professional, we will pay anything (if one can afford) for a faster lens because the way we work, at locations, tricky lighting situations, a faster lens give us valuable options, not just the bokeh and depth of field. Having a faster lens (aperture) also means I can use lower ISO if needed to give a cleaner image overall. So, to me it's worth six times the price. In terms of optical quality and build quality, it is better for sure, six times more, perhaps not. But it does come with weather-sealing (great for location shoot again), faster focusing motor, extra function button (I love that for manual focus) and that manual focus clutch that's great for both stills and videos. But for more causal shooters, the 45mm 1.8 is a great choice and light too, I will take that for holiday and travel :)

    Very well done you guys. The lens is very smooth, so is the beautiful model. It would be nice if you can compare 45mm f1.2pro with Olympus 75mm F1.8, which i think is the masterpiece of the present line-up of Olympus portrait lens.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate!! This is just an awesome lens. I will add this to my comparison list for sure and the Olly 75mm is a very popular portrait/medium tele lens. I love it but as it's almost double the focal length, you will certainly have a different compression between the two, even though the aesthetic of out of focus area is similar at wide open.

    what a beautiful model, Charli's so lovely. Feature her more on your videos please. By the way, I'm considering upgrading to this from my Olympus 45mm f1.8. The f1.2 pro is really tempting, but it's quite expensive. I'm still undecided.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do get you my friend. Jumping from 1.8 and 1.2 doesn't sound a lot in terms of light gathering but like anything in photography, the optical performance is 'what you pay is what you get'. The 1.2 Pro is definitely another league above, optical and physical :) If you do go ahead, you won't regret it!

      Hi Luis, thanks for watching our video! Well, frankly you have to answer that yourself. I can give you some advice however. Both lenses (or in fact three 17mm, 25mm and 45mm) are all great! 25mm is bang in the middle and definitely great as a versatile general standard prime. I love using mine for 'everything'! 45mm is great as a medium tele, great for detail landscape, head or head & shoulder shots. 25mm can do the same actually though I would avoid head shots because of the focal length isn't the best for that. head and shoulder is ok. Then because 25mm is a standard focal length and you can use it for almost all the time and still have the capability to isolate background if you wish. 45mm is of course longer and definitely has better bokeh (or more visible). So it depends on what you shoot most and decide which one you want to go for.

    So now my options are even harder! Those sample pics were great!! Could you do a three way test - Voigtlander and panny leica 42.5 vs the oly 45? I'm unsure which to go for, but the oly is tempting me slightly more....i'm currently on a gh5 with plans to buy a 2nd body in 2018, an olympus of some sort, not sure which just yet.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John!! Well, for a start, I can tell you straight away that if you plan to shoot wide open, the Voigtlander is nowhere near as sharp and solid as either Panny Leica nor Olympus. Are you planning to use MF for both stills and video? In terms of DoF, you may get just a tiny more with Voigtlander but only just, second is actually Olympus due to it's new optical design, bokeh balls appear to be larger than those on Panny Leica. Both Voigtlander and Olympus have a classic film look while Panny Leica is definitely more modern (rendering). I personally prefer Olympus for that matter. You probably know by now that Voigtlander, despite its 0.95 aperture, it isn't quite usable due to its soft characteristics unless you are going for the dreamy look, if you want some sharp results, you need to stop the lens down which then the other two lenses may give you better results.

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own the Voigtlander 42.5mm and Olympus 45mm f1.8 and f1.2. No Nocticron at this time, though. The Voigtlander renders like a classic SLR lens with fairly low contrast, organic rendering and soft but characterful bokeh. By comparison, the f1.2 Pro lens has a more modern rendering, and more smooth, almost featureless bokeh. At f1.2, the Voigtlander is sharp and looks superb, although it renders highlights with octagonal shapes. Stopped down even further, it creates very pronounced sunstars, which the Olympus does not. Manual focus is more precise and smooth with the Voigtlander, but that is to be expected. Focus throw is shorter on the Olympus, but with practice, it is usable for manual focus pulling.
      I find myself using the Olympus for the convenience of autofocus and lighter weight. The Voigtlander can get a bit front heavy by comparison. But if I want a classic rendering that looks artistic and high quality, I go with Voigtlander.

    I love this video and the photos. Is the 45mm f1.8 good close to the new 1.2? I don't have money for the 1.2, so the question... Thanks

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheAgam96 Thanks for watching our video and support :) Well, the 1.8 version is compact and light, perfect for travel. It’s a good portrait lens but in terms of optical performance, it’s probably 90%. The Centre is sharp but the 1.2 version is really designed for using the higher resolution shots and it’s well corrected lens. 1.8 is great and value for money if you are on a budget and not using the weather seal and that extra stop of light (or extra blur). Hope I answer your question. You can certainly do many of what I did in this video with the 1.8 version :)

    • @TheAgam96
      @TheAgam96 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Red35 Photography Thanks! The only lens for portrait that I have is an old Minolta 58mm f/1.4. (116mm on m43) Ok, it is manual and don't have all the technology of a new lens, but it gives me an idea of "soft focus" at 1.4, I think like the olympus 1.2, you talk about this around 8:00 in your video. Also the Megapixels questions, I agree, here in Italy we call that Megapizze 😁.
      So, last question, I have the 25mm 1.8 and the Minolta 58mm 1.4 manual. The question is: need I a 45mm for portrait? There is much difference in terms of focal length from a 90mm to a 116mm? Maybe the panasonic 42,5mm 1.7 is better or with the Olympus camera work better an olympus lens?
      Thanks for all

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, if you want AF, then the 45mm will do the job nicely and fast. It has the classic look with modern sharpness. 45mm will always be more flattering than 42.5mm in my opinion. the 58mm 1.4 is great though it's from another era so it won't be as sharp when compare to more modern glass.

      Hi Raymond, all photos you see here are shot with Olympus 45mm 1.2 Pro lens. Our end credit simply says which lenses we used to 'film' this episode :) Hope you don't get confused :D The 1.8 version is very nice and compact, as a professional, I need to squeeze every ounce of the performance from the system and the 1.2 allows me to just get that bit more from both the sensor and the lens. The bokeh, is nicer on the 1.2 also when shot wide open :)

    Hello! Nice review! I do have a question, if it's possible for you to give me an answer, I'm looking for a lens that'll use mostly for video on a Gh5, I was thinking to the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 pro, the Olympus 45mm f1.2 or the Panasonic Leica 42.5mm f1.2! Ca you tell me witch one will have the more noticeable background compression, is the 40-150mm have more than the two others on 1.2, the focal length is compensating to have a much more compression? Thank you for your time! Loving your channel!

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mircea, thanks for watching our videos and support to our channel! Much appreciated! Most of our videos are shot with 25mm with the occasional use of 45mm. In terms of ‘compression’ it’s a focal length issue so the longer the better. But in terms of background blur, subject isolation, the 45mm 1.2 is quite good and better than 40-150mm in that regard but by 100, the difference is minimal between 45mm 1.2 and the zoom at 2.8. However, do consider two things, first, you need to work on your distance with the zoom while the 45mm/42.5mm allows you to get in tighter space while still having the isolation. Second, at 2.8, you are losing a few stops of lights and it means you need higher ISO to compensate. Between 42.5 and 45mm, I will choose 45mm as it’s slightly longer hence still better and couple with the manual focus ring, it’s great for videos too!

    • @mirceateglas
      @mirceateglas 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot for your answer, i was leaning my self for the two 45 and 42.5, the only thing that keeps me from going 100% for the olympus is the OIS with the panasonic! Do you think it worth buying the Panasonic because it has the OIS? Thank you again!

  • @guurenez

    hey pls answer me pls, does it do FULL BODY shots, with bokeh similar to full frame sensor 85mm lens?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gyte, thank you for watching our video! Well, a short answer is not. You will not be able to achieve the same DoD as full frame. This can be said for other cropped sensor system or larger format (which goes opposite) when shooting the same distance. So the equivalent bokeh will look more like f/2.4 than f/1.2 on full frame so you will get more separation from a full frame system at the same distance. Though it depends on your adaptability and you can use a longer focal length to compensate by standing further away to achieve the similar effect if you wish. It's all about learning how to use it on various different systems, whether it's full frame, M4/3, APS-C or even medium format.
