You discovered my city - Bravo! And you did it proud, a lovely video tour. One quick hint (and maybe you usually do)...even with little French, when you enter a shop of any kind in France, add Madame, Mesdame, Monsieur or Messieurs to your "Bonjour."

I have an apartment in Villefranche,, I just found your video's, they are great. I think slow travel. I'm retired now and I think spending a few weeks or a month in a place is perfect. Speaking of slow travel, have you done a long walk, like the Spanish Camino,, truly a life changing experience.

Interesting perspective. I spent 3 weeks in Nice solo in December of 2021, and really loved it there. Hard to beat as a home base, and so many opportunities for easy and expensive day trips. I rented an apartment on the Rue de France and loved the easy access to everything, including the Promenade des Anglais and the sea just 2 minutes away.
Working to improve your French language competency would likely make you feel more comfortable when visiting France, especially if you intend to visit regularly in the future.
I also think it helps to visit in the offseason, when businesses and the city aren't inundated with (often entitled and obtuse) tourists.
I was just in Marseille for 3 weeks with family and then solo, and you might enjoy that city as well. Some amazing day hiking opportunities in the Calanques, of varying difficulty.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes - we've been back to Nice a few more times since we posted this video and we're liking it more and more. The surrounding areas too, especially Beaulieu-sur-Mer .
Thanks for the tip on Marseille. We haven't spent much time in Marseille but we did visit the Calanques, Cassis, Sanary and La Ciotat. The Calanques are truly magical. One of the best hikes in Europe in our opinion.

Our usual strategy is to stay on the very eastern edge of Nice and drive or walk to Villefranche and Cap Ferrat on sunny days when the cruise ships are not moored in the Villefranche bay. There’s a legend about the noon cannon shot : some english gentleman conceived this as a way to remind lunch time to his wife, who would always be late, being way too talkative ; the real story is that the man, whose name was Thomas Coventry, used to make experiences about time and sound travel speed with the help of the city authorities ; people got used to it, and it’s been this way since 1861.
I’ve been working next to the Colline du Château for years, and I’m still getting scared sometimes, when I’m a bit dreamy.

Having just returned from a couple weeks in Nice, also in Port Lympia at the Hotel St Paul, I agree with everything you sited, especially around the majesty of the surroundings, the need for us to make an effort and the general willingness of the locals to meet everyone more than halfway. I whimsically dream of living there at some point. It was also pointed out that Covid restrictions, clearly took an economic toll on the local economy and the warmth and friendliness may be a function of "catching up" a bit. No denying under any circumstances that the Cote d azure is amazing and Nice blends it all together. Nice Video, thanks!

Hi there. My family and I are taking a once in a lifetime trip to Europe from Montana US and I’m having a difficult time deciding where to stay in Nice. I loved your video. Thanks so much..

    • @happygoluckytravel

2 Rue de Foresta would be too busy / noise for us. But we're pretty sensitive to noise to it may not bother you. That road / intersection sees quite a bit of traffic during the day and there is an elementary school across the street. Otherwise it's a good location - close to the tram, the port and old nice.
When you say "very top of Port Lympia", I am not sure I understand where that is.

Have a great trip to Nice! Port Lympia is the area we stayed and enjoyed. Carabacel and Cimez areas also recommended by other viewers. All nice neighborhoods out of the heavy touristed sections.

Hello Emre and Maia, I really enjoyed your video about Nice, your excellent commentary and great taste in music. Is it possible to get the contact information for your apartment landlord? My wife and I would like to spend more time in Nice with intentions to buy an apartment if we fall in love with the local and expat vibe. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Go for it! Of course you have your own criteria, so we love it for the coastal walks, turquoise water, good international airport, nice people, and delicious food. Some parts are touristy. A few review trips to find your favorite neighborhood would be in order!
