First my best wishes to Mr. P Patel, I am also civil engineer having +25 yrs exp, i do agree lot of efforts to put in. I strongly say this branch has versatile in nature. One can become contractor, consultant and start business of selling hardware or sanitary products in any place in India. Secondly any body can get local municipal license to certify the drawings and keep in contact town and country planning dept. And any body wishes to change the trade they can change after Diploma/Degree immediately. Please see the outside market is in the hands of uneducated people, so being diploma/degree student anybody can become Entrepreneur. Be positive !!
Completely agree brother Civil engineering is for govt jobs and PSUs but just assume the competition for each post it is almost 1:300 so other 299 engineers who are also good are working for 15-20k in private organisations with almost equal knowledge.. sad reality 😢
Thinking PSUs are there for you for jobs is like going to battle with only 1 bullet. PSU seats - 4-5,6 like that. Students appearing - 50,000 - 1,00,000 I'm gonna leave it here.
I am pursuing my mtech in Transportation engineering from IIT Kanpur and I can tell you, all I am doing here is coding and maths(that too required for coding). Note: coding here means making Machine Learning models, data analysis and simulation. So start early with your coding, in the end most of the things converge to this.
Bro i just completed my degree in civil engineering... But i saw that civil engineer is not getting enough package if you have almost many years of experience... So that i decided to learn data science
Doing Civil engineering from IIT is like travelling in a autorickshaw when you have bmw Civil engineering is such a Branch which fucks with each and every parts of your body
There is a high package in civil engineering it doesn't matter whether you are from the IIT and NIT or a private college and it will always be evergreen branch. There is a lots of Constructions company where the people are getting the high packages. The bridge and the Highways are one of them only you have to be a proper experience...... I know there is the number of Engineering graduates passing every year but most of them are not skillful to get an appropriate job according to their degrees. But if you have a proper skilled regarding the fundamentals of civil engineering that will be beneficial in a practical sense then it will be more chance to get a job in private sector. Companies like the NCC, SP Singla Afcon where hiring the engineer according to their experience in private sector.
You are right, but our system and society is shit. Civil engineers will get money only after a lot of experience and years. Meanwhile a nice enough IT person will make double/triple that since the very start. There's no good work culture here in India, and not enough good lucrative interesting jobs that pays well.
Sorry bro I don agree with "civil Engineering dead" Problem is with education system .Poor faculty ,poor lab technicians, scarce lab equipment, outdated syllabus, lazy teachers .I did my civil engineering and I never had the opportunity to use surveying equipment only text book studies.
Civil Engineering is purely a dead line.... I'm gold medalist in my university and also GATE and ESE mains cleared. (Any one can inbox me if he wants any proof)... But i didn't get any job neither in govt. or in private sector. Still starving.... Never ever choose civil engineering and electrical engineering also. Electrical Engineering I m mentioning bcoz my brother has done this. He is also gold medalist with GATE and ESE pre cleared. Moreover he has cleared PSPCL exam also. But no where he gets a job. He is still starving with me. Feel free to contact us and this is purely true
I understand your plight, I cleared ESE pre and mains twice but failed in interview , cleared GATE but the rank was not enough to lend into a PSU as for civil engineering PSU seats are very less ,you need to get below 150 rank for General category and if you’re looking for PGCIL,NTPC,HPCL,ONGC,IOCL you need to secure below 100 rank ,finally I have joined railway as a je( will give departmental exam to become ADEn) and simultaneously preparing for civils and doing freelancing in my free time,i make approx 1L per month now ,civil engineering is a dead branch better go for CSE branch.
Chirag, I know your pain though I have not performed as you. I cleared ESE prelims twice and GATE. Target on state AE exams and even JE exams( salary around 35-40k). ESE has 50 seats for general and GATE has around 30 seats. No point beating a dead horse. Crack exams like SSC JE, BPSC AE and get into a job. After that you can prepare for other better exams like ESE or state administrative services.

If you target to be an engineer in government organisations, then go for civil engineering.
Hii Sir
Completely agree brother Civil engineering is for govt jobs and PSUs but just assume the competition for each post it is almost 1:300 so other 299 engineers who are also good are working for 15-20k in private organisations with almost equal knowledge.. sad reality 😢
The ratio has now gone upto 1:800 in some JE level examination 🥲
Salaries are very less. Civil eggrs starve.Freshers shall opt for IT, MBA, UPSC, Fianance.
Thinking PSUs are there for you for jobs is like going to battle with only 1 bullet.
PSU seats - 4-5,6 like that.
Students appearing - 50,000 - 1,00,000
I'm gonna leave it here.
With experience salary would grow.
I am pursuing my mtech in Transportation engineering from IIT Kanpur and I can tell you, all I am doing here is coding and maths(that too required for coding).

Why is that
Bro mehnat bohot hain lekin outcomes bohotbkam hain
True
Thank You Sir
You are right, but our system and society is shit. Civil engineers will get money only after a lot of experience and years. Meanwhile a nice enough IT person will make double/triple that since the very start. There's no good work culture here in India, and not enough good lucrative interesting jobs that pays well.

Sad to hear, we need more people like you to guide upcoming generation
