I dont know but I had hair below my butt and went for a pixie cut at home because I was just so frustrated with it. With the tangles, with how painful it was when you tug on it while you are sleeping, how it got caught on everything, the hours spent to maintain it, and especially the attachment I had to it. When I cut it, it was one of the best feelings I've ever had - I felt like I melted off dead weight off my shoulders as cliche as it sounds. Showers are now so much more satisfying; I can run my fingers through my scalp with shampoo so quickly and easily and it feels so good. Drying is even quicker. I no longer value myself based upon the length of my hair. It also brings out some features I had on my face that I didn't know I adored. If you feel like you want a haircut, go for it ladies! Hair will absolutely grow back even if it takes time. It will make you feel a sort of peace and give you a new change to your routine! Challenge yourself to try new styles with a new haircut! Have fun and good luck.

Shouldn’t we be celebrating how liberated and happy someone else is? Building them up! Sharing in that joy. Penny, you are incredible! Because you are you!
When 1000s of random women on the internet give an opinion maybe that's just general consensus and not hate? She will be in her 30s by the time her hair is back to that length. If my sister choped her curls I think I would cry. All that self expression and confidence all to look like a forever 21 mushroom.
@@itsallperspective7415 So what, what 1000 strangers have to say about someone else - I really don't get it. Let the woman be, let her shave it all off for that matter! There are ways of saying things, and calling someone a Forever 21 mushroom doesn't sound particularly nice. I hope your sister does whatever she wants with her hair, and I hope you will be rooting for her if that time comes. Choosing what to do with your own vody because of strangers' consensus is absolute nonsense, think before you speak next time
I love how you coming out with the psychological defense mechanism. My major is psychology and I love seeing you speak about these issues 💕 you’re beautiful
Those girls feel attacked by what she did, because unconsciously (or not) they've always felt like owning a superior femininity/beauty because of long hair (or wanted to reach that goal to feal superior) and now see that ideal of femininity/beauty undermined.
@@itsallperspective7415 people can be in support of others cutting their hair, without actually wanting to cut their own🙄 Your comment is ironic considering your username

Yes yes and yes!!! Im a true believer of cutting mine when its time to let go. I cut my locs after going through a bad breakup .. next time ill just do a apple cider vinegar wash first to see if it Helps lol
I’ve done dramatic cuts like that before and it really does feel like a fresh start. So much energy goes into growing and maintaining long hair, when you’re ready for the chop it’s like a rebirth. You look great!!!
When I had short hair, the most common response from other women was "I love your hair! I wish I was brave enough to do that". I never lacked male attention. Now I'm growing it out because *I* want to.
i love how this video is so educational on how messed up our society is but many people will still not understand a single thing that was said & still hate on others
Women and girls who say they'd kill for long curly hair clearly have never had long curly hair. It does look beautiful but it's time consuming. When I started CGM I became so out of shape bc working out meant I'd have to wash my hair more often and wash days were so time consuming. I cut my hair shoulder length and stopped really caring if my curls were stretched out after putting my hair in a bun to go for a run. Sometimes I look back at pictures of me with my long hair and yeah, it was really pretty. But there's more to life than maintaining the prettiest version of yourself.
As you get older (and your back and neck remind you of this constantly,) the curly girl wash and style regimen can be physically overwhelming. I gave up on diffusing very early on and even scrunching out the crunch is now a major “fill in the blank” for me to do! I only hope the rest of the world thinks it’s worth all the effort I put into this “natural hair” of mine. I’m certainly beginning to ponder if it is....
I really love how you turned this into an analysis on how society views women's hair. Everything you said is spot on and we should all be free to make choices about our own bodies rather than have pressure from society to fit into a certain standard. And this is coming from someone who genuinely loves long hair xD
Yo I wish “Influencers” could be like Penny she spreads positivity and you learn something from her videos. The people who we call “Influencers” now in day spread negativity and is shaping our society to trash. I just got to say thank you penny also Salem I enjoy her videos and honestly there one of the few you tubers who are making a difference 💙
It’s clear that some of these folks wanted to vicariously live through Penny and her long, curly hair. So when Penny did want SHE wanted to HER OWN BODY, they felt like spoiled their fantasies. Thankfully Penny is fully aware of projecting and jealousy, and SHE loves her short hair. ❤️
Calm down yall it's not that deep. It's nothing I haven't heard before and it doesn't offend me lol. I have tried just about everything including injections. I also have lupus which gets in the way. I had super long curly hair about 2 years ago . I actually DID have a mental/emotional breakdown and cut it off. Since then I’ve kept it short while never really liking it. I found your channel tonight while looking for short curly styles. I’m now actually looking at getting a shorter cut with some shorter pieces in front. You look GREAT with the short hair. Plus it was so sweet seeing your partners reaction. I’m reframing my short hair . Thank you so much for sharing your light 💎❤️
I stand by my original comment I had made when I first saw it: You're ROCKING that hair! It suits you beautifully! You look fun, and free, and like a weight has been lifted off of you - because literal weight has been lifted off of you! People look their most beautiful when they're happy - and getting that hair cut off has made you SHINE! 🙌🙌💜🙌🙌

I'm just saying, folks had the same thought process when they were cutting their hair mad short in the 1920s and 1930s. But at the end of the day, Penny's curls are giving bounce, its giving shine, its giving no split ends, its giving hydrated
I feel like I’m looking at the real you with this cut - and that’s not to say that short or long is better or worse but that you’ve made a change to reflect your inner being and it shows! I love, love, love it
This comment is EXACTLY what this whole thing is about! We see a inner PERSON whereas when standard beauty protocol grabs the attention first, the PERSON is lost. And in the world of some men, they never want to find the inner PERSON anyway.
when I was little (as a latina) i always had LONG hair. I hated the constant brushing my mom would give me. As a teenager I started getting a yearly hair cut where I would go from butt length to shoulder length in the summer. I liked the relieved of pressure off my head and not waiting HOURS for it to dry. As an almost 30 year old with kids, I keep my hair shoulder length cuz aint nobody got time for all that styling. I love your videos, as long as you are happy that's all that matters. I think it looks lovely =)
It's really refreshing to see a young woman on youtube with such clarity and self-confidence. Wonderful role model. If you care, I love your curls, long or short, but mostly I love how you model self-respect.
So true what you said about the internalized expectation that women have to have long hair to be feminine! It should not matter what kind of haircut a person is having! I think you should wear your hair the way you feel most comfortable having it!! Edit: I am aware that my opinion should not matter here, however, I still wanted to say that I think that you look absolutely beautiful with your current haircut!
U realize its based on biology though right? I have a daughter and son, my son had very little hair and didnt need a haircut for almost 2 years. My daughter had a head full of hair and now at 1 yo, her hair is down to her waist. Think about how many bald men are out there vs women. Biologically, women grow more and longer hair on their heads than men so that translates to beauty standards, or "internalized expectations" as you call it.
@@natc1008 I have a male friend who has hair down to his hips. I also know many women who can't seem to grow their hair past their shoulders. It is not purely based on biology.
@@natc1008 thank you for your comment! While I am not very sure about women generally growing more/longer hair than men (I believe this is rather influenced by genetics), the point I was trying to make is that people should not have to adopt what their respective gender roles prescribe them to look like (long hair/ short hair; skirt/ pants etc.) just to please or fit the standard! I hope we can grow to a more accepting, liberating and self- fulfilling lifestyle that does not dictate or restrict one’s choices :)
@@natc1008 Yes I absolutely agree! I also believe that beauty is diverse and cannot or should not be pinned down to one standard! But just as you said the most important thing is that we are satisfied and like the way we ourselves look regardless of what everyone else says!
I cried watching this because it really hurts when even people who otherwise are very open and supportive fall for the lies of society and don't want to admit it. And because you put it so perfectly and it healed a little bit of my broken self love
I cut my hair back in highschool and got those same comments as a young teen. But guess what? 8 years later im still rocking a a pixie cut and i'd never go back :) You look amazing!!
I just cut my long curly hair. Everyone was “I can’t believe you did that “ I love it my hair now. The way it feels in the shower. Fixing it in ways I never could have before. Who cares what others say and what MEN want!!!!
I needed this. I love everything about this video and can relate to all of it. Yesterday I went from long, curly hair that would get caught in my bum cheeks in the shower to hair so short it’s shaved at the neck. The change is affecting me physically and emotionally that I could write a book to explain. I don’t love the cut, but I don’t regret going short. I do, however, completely love your look. Cheers to no more neck pain! I’ll be following you now to find out how to manage short hair. Thank you.
The fun thing about short hair is that, if you don't love the cut, it doesn't take long before you can go get a different cut. There's lots of variety in short hair, and you can find the cut you love. Best wishes in finding the best look you love.
I always laugh when I hear the comment that “men prefer long hair.” First of all obviously, who cares? But second of all my husband actually prefers short hair (if I ever get a pixie I think he’ll start happy dancing). Is that stopping me from growing it out again? No because it’s my body and we both know that (and he thinks I’m beautiful anyway), but men aren’t a monolith!! They have different preferences!
My husband just wants me to be okay with what my hair looks like and not be in crisis. He has preferences, but ultimately, it’s my hair. I didn’t ask him when I dyed it green. I didn’t ask him when I went blonde. I didn’t ask him when I took six inches of dead hair off and got my waves and curls back. It isn’t his hair, and if he’s that invested, he can buy a wig I may or may not wear.
@@katefarr2036 yeah exactly! My husband supports me no matter what I do with my hair. Like, when prompted he’ll say he loves short hair but if I respond with “cool but I’m growing my hair out” he goes “great! It’ll look gorgeous on you!” Etc etc
@@bbygrlpt2 Yep. Every couple of years I let my hair grow long and it's such a pain to detangle, dry, and style. Plus it sheds everywhere and makes a mess. Whenever I get fed up and cut it to shoulder length I always get the same comments saying, "omg noooo your hair was so pretty; what man is going to like you now??" but, ironically, I get more attention from men when my hair is shorter because it suits me more lol. People are so rude and nosy for no reason.
I shaved my hair off 5 years ago. It was liberating. I'm actually contemplating doing it again. Everyone told me for years that I look like a boy, I looked better with longer hair. I felt insecure but I pushed through it and it gave me a taste of my own choices and how much freedom I have to do anything i want.
All the negative comments you have been getting after you took the decision to cut your OWN hair, just goes to show that people will rather ruin someone's happiness taking a decision they never could as a result of deep self-esteem issues than heal and foucus on them selfs. People keep staying mad. Slay queen! Never dim your lights to let someone else feel comfortable. Shine as bright as you can!!
Love the short hair on you, it looks so fun and I feel like it suits your personality. Good for you for staying true to yourself and your individual style :)
I actually prefer my hair short, but I like to grow it out for 3 years and then chop it all off as short as you. People think I'm crazy, and I just enjoy being able to do cool styles with long hair but after awhile it's too much maintenance so I cut it off when it gets too long

Penny I adore your haircut and I think you look stunning. I personally like my hair long as I find it easier to take care of and I prefer how my curls look. I also love long curly hair in men, it's one of the most attractive things to me. But hair is just hair, people should realize it's not that deep and different people like different things. Let's just all let people have the hair they want to have.
I am over here cheering and clapping and screaming "Yaaaaaas, you tell them!" I am so glad that I clicked on this video! I feel this is a video that many people need to see, if not everyone. Thank you for sharing this and even though, you didn't need to explain yourself, as this was your decision, I am so glad you did!
I love, love, LOvE how your hair turned out!!! I personally like having short hair myself too. It's comfortable, convenient and just feels so breezy. My husband actually prefers when I cut my hair into a cute layered bob. So no, not all men prefer long hair on women. @@natalyrausch I feel that it's more complicated than that. Sure, you can say that men are largely preventing themselves from doing whatever but it's the social constructs that really prevents people from doing certain things. Sometimes these roles are so rigid that it could pose a threat to your safety if you defy them.

Exactly, I would totally cut my hair if I had a pretty face. My hair sort of compensates haha

“I DEFINITELY WAS!” 😆 so many cultures believe energy etc is stored in the hair, and honestly it makes a lot of sense that you have been making so many shifts in your life that it was time to release that old energy that was no longer serving you.
You’re beautiful Penny. Inside and out. Looking forward to witnessing what’s to come with this new energy. ❤️
Exactly!
"Dead protein that grows out of holes out of my head" is EXACTLY what I'm gonna say instead of 'hair' from now on.

I really love how you turned this into an analysis on how society views women's hair. I had super long curly hair about 2 years ago . I actually DID have a mental/emotional breakdown and cut it off. Since then I’ve kept it short while never really liking it.
Curly content is what brought me here, wisdom and humor made me stay!!!

when I was little (as a latina) i always had LONG hair.
I absolutely adore this cut on you, I remember getting a lot of backlash when I cut 8 inches off my hair but I’m obsessed with my short hair now

When a women cuts her hair, that is power, confidence, true beauty. I never felt more feminine than when my hair was short. You are beautiful!
I also agree people should wear their hair how they want, but noone is required to think its beautiful, especially when you go against standards

I just cut my long curly hair. Everyone was “I can’t believe you did that “ I love it my hair now. The way it feels in the shower. Fixing it in ways I never could have before. Who cares what others say and what MEN want!!!!
Exactly 👑
Long hair looks pretty but it isnt worth it. At the end anyone who loves you will love you and like you however no matter how you look
@@bbygrlpt2 Yep. Every couple of years I let my hair grow long and it's such a pain to detangle, dry, and style. Plus it sheds everywhere and makes a mess. People are so rude and nosy for no reason.
Yep my hubby is not a fan of my long hair but he keeps his trap shut coz we both are adults.
I’m looking at your picture and it really suits you. I think gold round glasses would look lovely on you, am so envious of that combination.
That's funny because I think 95% of my friends want me to cut my hair short but I like it long.
All the negative comments you have been getting after you took the decision to cut your OWN hair, just goes to show that people will rather ruin someone's happiness taking a decision they never could as a result of deep self-esteem issues than heal and foucus on them selfs.

I actually prefer my hair short, but I like to grow it out for 3 years and then chop it all off as short as you. People think I'm crazy, and I just enjoy being able to do cool styles with long hair but after awhile it's too much maintenance so I cut it off when it gets too long

@@natalyrausch I feel that it's more complicated than that. Sure, you can say that men are largely preventing themselves from doing whatever but it's the social constructs that really prevents people from doing certain things.
