Two reasons. a.) Smaller gear ratios don't allow for the fine-tuning you get with a larger gear ratio. In other words, if you are running something like a 25/9 versus a 44/16 there is a much bigger difference in torque when you go up one tooth. b.) Smaller gear ratios also put more stress on the chain. Since racing relies on constant hard pressure on the pedals, you're more likely to break a chain if you had a 25/9 gear versus a 44/16 which spreads the torque over a larger diameter.

I'm more into BMX tricks more than BMX racing tricks rules man
I used to do tricks and ride BMX freestyle all the time.
You are right. Tricks are awesome and fun. Racing is really fun too.
the chase element is alot better and nicer
