1986 Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood. 1987 The New Order, Fabulous Disaster, Among the Living and Frolic through the Park. Arguably the best 2 years ever in thrash metal.
Correction: *1986:* Master Of Puppets, (I prefer Darkness Descends over Reign In Blood) *1987:* Among The Living *1988:* The New Order, South Of Heaven, Eternal Nightmare
All hail Eric Peterson. Others in the band get rightly get the love from the fans for their technical virtuosity, but Peterson is - and has always been - the beating heart of the band. There is no Testament without the cornerstone. Thrash riff god.
i remember the day i left (art) school early to pick this up on cassette at sound warehouse on May 5th, 1988. perfect, cloudless day in texas. around 80F. popped it into the kraco deck of my raggedy-ass, gen 3 camaro and drove around long enough to listen to it twice through. i thought 'the legacy' was a super-solid thrash release, along with heathen's 'breaking the silence' in 1987, but 'the new order' cemented skolnick as a top guitarist, and testament as a top artist of the genre. 'AJFA' wouldn't come out for a few more months and 'SF, SG ... So What!' wasn't quite as thrashy. this album hit at the exact right moment for me, and the vivid memory of release day is unforgettable.
Yes! The excitement of picking up a new album are days long gone. The fundamentals of a joyful life are being replaced with tech. Something these young bloods will never understand.
Back when this came out I was such the Metallica fan. I really didn't think anyone or anything could touch them, and then this bombshell landed. I remember thinking, these songs are more complex and better crafted than anything Metallica had put out so far. I was totally obsessed with this album for a good long time. Good to hear it remastered - I hear things I never did in the original mix; especially the bass.
1988 had some of the most epic albums that year, so far so good so what, state of euphoria, and justice for all, forbidden evil, south of heaven, survive, Them, eternal nightmare, how will i laugh tomorrow.. the list just goes on and on.. I spent more money that year on cassettes then any other year i can thank of in my life..
Taking me back to high school. Just as amazing as the first time I heard it. The intro for the new order song going into the main riff is one of the intros in metal.
Dios mio que recuerdos de adolescencia, escuchando mientras estaba haciendo trabajos de secundario en la noche!!. Esta es la mejor época!!. Aguante El Metal por siempre LPM, saludos de desde Argentina!!
Obviously a labor of love painstakingly assembled by craftsmen intent on creating one of the greatest rock albums of all time...success! Wailing leads, crunching rhythms, pulsating bass, pounding drums, howling vocals! Thank you Testament!
The remaster is actually lacking in my opinion but the songs are still great. Still I prefer the First Strike Still Deadly version of Disciples Of The Watch.
Not sure I'll get too excited, the Metallica remasters were nothing but a cash grab. If these have a little extra going on like the Death remasters, I'll be straight in there. But upping the gain a smidge and running it through a modern noise filter? Nah, you're alright.
Wrong. Testament has their place but nobody can say they are better than Metallica-Nope Slayer-Nope Megadeth-Nope Anthrax-Nope Hey, not everybody can be in the top 4 🤷🏼♂
Haha, how many times I listened to this on tape cycling home from school, on the other side Metallica's 'Ride the Lightning'. Will see them next month on tour with Kreator and Anthrax 🤘
just shows that you use shit equipment and your hearing is shot i you think this compressed to hell, dr6 madness sounds great. i pity you, you obviously never experienced music the way it should sound.
I literally want Return to Serenity played at my funeral because of the solos in that song lol. Skolnick is one of the greatest lead players of all time IMO and that was what drew me to Testament in the beginning. Nobody else has that level of technicality AND the melodic chops with such a gift for unique phrasing. Normally you get technicality or melody/phrasing prowess, rarely ever both.
@Lord_of_Dread Yeah. I mean, there are many great "METAL!!!" guitarists out there, but Skolnick is one of a kind. His influences and love of other genres shine through.
out of all the Testament tracks I love, Trial By Fire is still my go-to, I once even did a bit by bit recording covering the entire track every instrument and vocals🔥🤘🏻 if I find it I’m gonna have to upload it
This is my favorite Testament album. I heard them first on Headbangers Ball when Kevin Seal was host. This remaster sounds clean! I can't wait to get a copy!

Every song on this album meant something to me growing up. I love this album, Every second of it.
I second that! This, Persistence In Time, Peace Sells and Puppets is my childhood!
Your words felt close to my chest too buddy! Every song has a special place in my heart , especially when I was growing up.

Testament are great!!!
I love all of this album's songs when I was 19 and all was and is great now about this album
I borrowed this from my local library on cassette. It was the best and is still the best thing I ever borrowed.
Listened to this on cassette back in 88 or 89. Great to hear it again.
I've still got this on cassette too, but had to get the CD version because my cassette is so worn out it sounds like the underwater version 😄
1986 Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood. 1987 The New Order, Fabulous Disaster, Among the Living and Frolic through the Park. Arguably the best 2 years ever in thrash metal.
The New Order is from 1988....
frolic through the park is not good
Are you trolling? Among the living is the only one of those albums from 87
Correction: *1986:* Master Of Puppets, (I prefer Darkness Descends over Reign In Blood)

Don’t forget Peace Sells and The Dark
The lead guitar sounds pretty much perfect here. Good remaster.

EXACTLY! Well spoken!
Agree completely
Yeah but normies don't understand that, sadly
Rarely gets talked about. So underrated.
Eric Peterson is the best riff creator of our generation. His Legacy will reign. 💯🔥🎶
Pure and powerful thrash. One of the albums you must have until the end of your life! A true MASTERPIECE!!!

Man, this brings me back! For me, Alex's solos are the highlight here. Great album!
Testament's finest hour right here. Powerful.
Another great Testament album that predicts the near future.
A world of Chaos. A world of Fear. A world of Anger and Corruption.
Will they live to see another day?

One of my favorite bands of all time since day one! And this album is etched firmly in my dense cranium 💪
love this album, thanks for the upload

I saw them on tour for this album as a teenager and it was my first mosh pit. Still a phenomenal album!

Testament kicks ass. Such great songs and talent.
I really hope Practice What You Preach and Souls of Black gets this treatment. The sound quality of every instrument is much better and clearer.
Next years 🤘🏽
Yeah the production on Souls of Black is pretty bad it's an awesome album though.Practice what you preach is an absolute banger
@@superunknown2812 I actually like the mix on that album, but I agree it can be a lot better.
The Japanese SHM cd's from 2013 are remastered, and sound great.

It's a crap remaster though. DR6 and compressed to hell. Sounds worse than the original as do 90% of all "remasters".
@@ShadowAngel-lt8nw Sadly. I totally agree that almost every remaster is a step down from the original record
When Chuck hits the high notes, he sounds like Stephen Pearcy.
