    The game will also read a half-circle back forward motion (632146) as a DP input, this is actually necessary for some combo trials on characters such as Heidern.

      yeah long cuts are generally important in KoF to guarantee something else doesn't come out.

      Pain in the ass if you want to play Ryo/Robert tho. DP, projectile super and 646 are all easy to misinput

      @@sabastianpummill2446 there is still a window to it and it’s all character dependent but just keep experimenting with holding the buttons and you’ll find it! It made my shermie breas and butter so much easier to execute

    Sajam gets it. KOF system is very portable and once you know it's logic you can figure decent routes for most characters fast.

    My biggest struggle is how (some) characters can't get fun combos unless you're extremely close to the opponent.
    Then I learned about characters who don't have that limit...they are now my mains

      idk if it'll help you but i found hyper forward hops to be great at getting close. I've been jumping into the lab and just practicing hyper hop into a bnb.
      Cool thing about the hyper forward hop is that as long as you aren't too far, a successful hyper hop in attack, say HK that hits around or below the waist (hitting higher usually won't guarantee a combo), will almost always guarantee a close HP or HK follow up because the hyper part of the jump adds a forward momentum, at least from my labbing experience.
      Obviously hyper hops are still susceptible to getting long ranged poke stopped, but if you can mix it up it can be great way to approach and get that close H attack off

    something else worth mentioning is the game only really cares about cardinal directions for special moves, so qcb>hcf (2141236) can be simplified down even more to just 2426, aka qcb>qcf. this makes terrys burn knuckle into geyser even easier if you struggle doing half circle motions.

    Nah fr I picked this game up, tried a lil bit, didnt know what do as far as what to work on or whatever tech I was frustrated with, put away game. See this video here many months later, explanation so good, even monkey brain can start fucking around and finding out in training room without feeling overwhelmed, actually being able to enjoy it for a few minutes rather than feel frustrated for not understanding how the game works functionally across the cast. Now, I'm starting up college and I think I might know how to spend a lil of my free time, . Thanks for the video, good sir, you've certainly helped this burnt out candle of a gamer find the spark to pick up the sticks again. Much thanks, much love, and stay safe! =)

    Also if you’re new and having a hard time don’t forget that when you get hit you lose health so don’t get hit.

    6:40 it's actually even easier than that! The way this game reads input lets you do the quarter circle back for burn knuckle/specials and then you're only required to do a quarter circle forward to get geyser. As a hitbox player that struggles with half circles, this made these kinds of cancels WAAAAAAAY easier. It also works in neutral too! Leona has an air super that's great for air-to-airs or whiff punishing missed ground normals. It's qcf-hcb tho, but instead I just basically do qcf then qcb light punch and I still get the super! This with the hold button trick made the game a lot easier 😅

    Another tip is you dont need to do the full "half circle" to get a super.
    If you do qcb punch qcf p you get the super cancel bc the game also count the first qcb as the first part of hcf.
    In number is: 214 P 236P the super is 21441236P but all 214412 is behind the 214 P

    I play Kof since 96 and this video is really simple and good, as always your explanation is clean and precise, great point giving tips about the "hold" trick, take a lot of years for me to know that xD, and also the shortcuts, i only use shortcuts basically like 2146 for the qcbqcf supers or 2623 for double fireball ones ... either way keep the awesome work o/

    I remember figuring out the overlapping special move inputs thing playing 14 a while back. I just did one of Sylvie's trials over and over again, and eventually it dawned on me like the monkey using a bone as a club in 2001: a Space Oddysey. I'd use that again in Street Fighter, since a lot of the time you can do a quarter circle special move into the double quarter circle super.

    Thx Sajam I need hitting hops by tryna master tapping up slightly on stick. This is better for me I will have a easier time mastering hops now. I'm pretty savvy at converts and putting strings together. It's the damn hops that I have issues with.

    Now, can someone just break it down for me what the point of far normals are? I don’t see them being discussed and I just want to know in plain terms why they exist when I can’t meterless cancel out of them.

    Not sure if anyone in the comments has any help for this but I have been struggling to do double half circle inputs on hitbox in this game. Just one half circle is fine, but for whatever reason the game doesn’t seem to like hitboxes like a lot of new games do.
    Or I’m just very bad. Either works

      It happens to me too on keyboard in 2002. I'm 99% sure it's because if you want to do a hcf, going from 'down-backwards' to 'down-forwards' doesn't cut it. You need to cleanly input 'down' in the motion. You can test it in training mode if that's why it doesn't come out.
      As to how to avoid it, maybe try focusing on hitting 'backwards' then ''qfc' instead of rolling your fingers in one motion? Or just doing the motion slower. idk, I struggle with that too.

      It doesn't really matter. It's entirely down to what you want to use or find most comfortable.

      On pad flick the analog stick for short hops instead of using the d pad

    Man, I'm having a hard time doing a lot of what you just demoed here. 10 hours so far, and I'm having a really hard time confirming hits off of command normals; the button hold trick certainly makes cancels easier, but when cancelling from something with a longer animation, there's still a small, finite space of time where it will allow you to do the button hold trick to cancel. It's really sucking a lot of enjoyment out of the game, especially since I can't see much of a reason for why this stuff needs to be this hard in the first place.

      Are you using a normal before the command normal? You want to combo into the command normal after using a regular normal to give you enough time to process if your button hit or not. Vanessa is an easy example because her HP and forward LP have a lot of active frames/hits, so more time to realise that your attack actually landed or not so you can follow up after.
