How anyone could give this a "thumbs down" is beyond me. Great expression, phrasing, dynamics and intonation. Absolutely superb playing and working as a section.
I just consider myself blessed I live is a time where I get to hear Baer play with ny phil legends like Joe Allesi. To me this is almost the equivalent to living in a time wear I got to hear all the Chicago greats like Arnold Jacobs.
Beautiful! Effortless ensemble, balance and blend. Please include the tuba player's name in the description. You can't call this the low brass of the NYP without him!
Stephanie Curry Watch Adam Neely’s video on combination tones if you haven’t. Hearing a high overtone that isn’t being played is a sign that their intonation with each other is impeccable.
idhott2003 the pitch is too low to make combination tones.. actually in physics overtones occur all the time when a pitch is played. You can really hear the harmonic series when they all sit on one note.
@Manu Petaia Yeah the problem is that it is the fundamental tone, so it fits pretty good in the chord. Easily mistaken for a trombone but that would be a pretty hard trombone part😂
FWIW: Alessi and Finlayson are institutions at the NYPhil. Curran and Williams were both at the Atlanta Symphony previously to the Phil. There's a fair number of past ASO players in the NYPhil.
Trombone was my primary instrument in college and yet I’m still amazed at the amount of sound in this excerpt. It sounds like there’s way more than 5 players on the stage.
Honestly, they get better with every recording. I’ve never heard it so wonderful from all these gentlemen (I know them all in person, especially Mr. Finlayson, my quintet coach!). Bravo.
Amazing how small the tuba looks compared to the 6' 4" Alan Baer. I'm assuming that's the Ursus model and not the Baer, since the Baer would have a much larger bore. Even so, it probably looks like a 4/4 tuba when he plays it!
The more I hear Alan Baer, the more I truly appreciate what he adds to the New York Philharmonic
Literally sounds like a pipe organ. I love this!!!
Actually a lot better!

Probably viola players...... :-)
Colin Reid They are frequently on the immediate receiving end of trombones
Clearly 4 villages who’ve lost their idiots...
If only the TH-cam overlords still displayed the Dislike count....I miss the days of no censorship.
You really left out the name of the Tuba player in your description? That's just sad, Alan Baer is an amazing musician
It's fine, George's got his buddy's back... just look at 1:46!
The guy with the tuba that cost more than a sports car.

Finish your sentence: an amazing musician who is an active supporter of the r*pe culture at the NYPhil. Why is he still a member of this Orchestra?
The flawless staggered breathing moment is one of those fine details that has gone unnoticed.
amazing, thanks for uploading. ive heard the full orchestral recording so many times i swear i can hear the strings when i listen to this

Alan Baer
The resonating tone that Alan Baer projects is just something special man
Baer is a beast, no pun intended.
Who else hears the high overtone which isn't being played?

@Manu Petaia the most you hear it in 1:28

Wasn't Baer there for a minute before winning the NY job?
Unbelievably beautiful - thanks for this.
Joseph Alessi ist der Gottvater aller klassischen Posaunisten in der Welt!
tuba player doesn't get a mention!
It's Alan Baer, also from the NY Phil!
@@A9al9 Yep.
Alan Baer
I think he tends to hold back. He sometimes gets lost in recordings despite being a fantastic player.
@@lonnyyoung4285 I think some of the conductors give him crap about his volume and make him hold back too much.
It feels like something is missing without the trumpet part
Dies Irae. Now THIS is beautiful.

The power of overtones.

Oh yes this is absolutely AMAZING!!
Phenomenal section!
The only parts that matter, just got played, very well.

Интересно, каким же чудакам не понравилось и почему?

i love this
Not the same without the contrabassoon doubling an octave lower. Either way, love these guys.
It doesn’t make that much of a difference..
@@AOSMAKAKMS
Pedal notes are to die for
@@AOSMAKAKMSit definitely does, the timbre adds a lot imo.
Perfect.
Fill in the blanks, good exercise for orchestration students.

What is the location for this?
You forgot Alan Baer
I accidentally hit the dislike button when scrolling and now my thumb feels unclean.
For the record, I changed it a like.
