Ann is the singer, and Nancy is her sister, the guitar player. They have so many cool songs from the seventies, but they have music from then til now, so you need to explore them more.
This was a song aimed directly at their record label for some idiocy that was happening at the time. Ann Wilson (the singer) is now in her early 70s and has just released a duet with David Draiman on Disturbed's latest album. That woman still has it! She and her sister, Nancy, are rock goddesses. One of my favorite female rock voices, for sure!
Ann will be 73 in June and Nancy turned 69 in March. They were both on tour last year but not together. Nancy performs sometime in a couple of months
There are no bad Heart songs. Decades of hits. My favorite is called Alone. They also did a live tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center. The two groups had a great bond.

Nice! I saw Heart in concert back in 1981. I sat close to the stage on the left and got blown out by the speakers so that my ears rang for days. But I was young at the time so they healed. [grin] When you're ready for more from Heart check out some of their other rockers like "Crazy On You", "Magic Man", "Straight On", "Bebe Le Strange", and "Heartless" as well as some of their mellower tunes like "Dreamboat Annie" and "Dog & Butterfly".

Heart's central performers and songwriters are the Wilson sisters, singer Ann and guitarist Nancy. If I recall correctly, you've already heard them when you did their performance of Stairway To Heaven at Led Zeppelin's Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. When Heart first got started in the '70s, they looked up to Zeppelin as mentors, and over time the two groups became close friends.

This is literally decades ago, but she can still sing. I you haven't seen it yet, check out their performance at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. Heart sang Stairway to Heaven, in front of Led Zeppelin. Heart is the ONLY band LZ allows to do covers of their songs.

In the 70's Heart, Pat Benetar, Patti Smith, The Pretenders etc made tougher, harder songs that basically said F@#$ off, get outta here I'll kick your azz if u play me!! Just a masterful rock song from start to finish: lyrically, musically, the entire orchestration. It was awesome to hear it gain so much radio play in the late 70s, it deserved every moment on the charts. Over 40 years later, it still moves me. That's art.

There is actually a real video with the real sound from the show that's out there. Although they are an amazing group. And her voice is incredible. This is actually the studio version that is dubbed onto the video. I have seen this version with the original live sound. Take care and be well !

This song was in response to record promoters spreading rumors that singer Ann Wilson and her sister Nancy (guitar) were incestuous lovers in an attempt to create titillating controversy in an effort to create a buzz to sell more records. Ann was livid and wrote this song in response to that nonsense. Loved your reaction. Ann Wilson, in my opinion is one of the greatest rock and roll vocalists of any gender of all time and in her early 70s now, she's still got it. Other songs you must react to: "Crazy on You" and "Magic Man." They also did a fantastic rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" during a Kennedy Center tribute to several musicians, including Led Zeppelin. If you haven't reacted to the original version of Stairway to Heaven, I'd recommend doing that first, so you kind of get what the song is like before reacting to the Heart tribute version, so you can appreciate what the Wilson sisters did to the song. The three surviving members of Led Zeppelin were in the audience and were visibly moved by the performance.
the entire bassline for this was pretty much lifted from led zep (achilles last stand) and they wrote a song over the top, GREAT song and ann has an AWESOME voice!
Saw them way back in 1977, the same time as this video. Hearing this live in a small concert venue is amazing.
The first time I heard this was when playing Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas on the in-game rock radio station (presented by Axl Rose, as it happens). I was familiar with Dreamboat Annie (great album), but Heart had drifted out of my awareness. This got them right back into it :)

The song about men trying to dominate women. Not these two. Song was defiance. And really rocked. They came to my university when their first album was starting to break (they were warm up band for Earth Wind, and Fire). We managed to get Heart into our TV studio with an audience of 75 students, and they performed their entire first album. We not only broadcasted the show, but simulcast it through our FM Stereo radio station. Oh they were right there! Speaking of which, try Crazy on you (the whole thing, you don't want to miss Nancy Wilson's acoustical intro. Also at the other end of their careers, they did an amazing live performance of "Stair to Heaven" to Led Zeppelin. With the late John Bonham's son on drums.

Everything from the Yes Album to Fragile to Close to the Edge to Yessongs to Tales from Topographic Oceans to Relayer to Going for the One is considered their best work. They are still at it, with another album in the works in 2023!

Yup, a totally-unrelated recommendation. David Grisman is a mandolin player you've probably never heard of, but definitely should have. He started playing back in the 1960s, with Maria Muldaur and John Sebastian. He also worked with Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements (who I recommended in another recent comment), and Doc Watson (who I'll be recommending soon...). He invented his own musical style, which he calls "Dawg music," a mixture of bluegrass and Django Reinhardt/Stéphane Grappelli-influenced jazz, along with folk, Old World Mediterranean string band music, as well as modern jazz fusion.
