    Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

    This helped me train my collie so much easier! I’ve watched multiple videos to teach my dog sit pretty but she always either falls over or doesn’t hold it, she can actually hold the position now which is a great improvement!

    My puppy is 2 and half months and can already play dead but sit pretty is hard on his muscles. will begin taking baby steps and the suggestion to make them sit properly is very good too. Thanks

    This video has really helped me with my cross breed dog Jack he is a 6 year old Border Collie/ German Shepherd. For years he would go unwalked and knew nothing but the back yard. no mental training or physical either. one month ago i took him off my parents hands who obviously could not handle the whining and the high energy of him. Now he goes' for 5 walks a day all lasting for 30 mins apart from his "big" walk of an hour. i have taught him spin, walk by my side, play dead and currently working on sit pretty. this channel has gave me confidence to train him, so thank you.

    Thank you! This was very helpful. I've been trying to teach my cattle dog pup to "sit pretty" before a "wait" every day while giving him breakfast for weeks/months. It unintentionally evolved from him using my hand to balance during the "paw" or "shake" command. He recently started trying it without support from my hand but slips sometimes on our tile floor. I didn't realize I could be causing him damage by not providing him more traction first or making sure he's sitting straight with his feet planted symmetrically.

    My first dog was a mixed breed (german shepherd and some kind of sighthound, perhaps whippet, probably other stuff too) and it was very easy to teach her this trick so it never occurred to me that it might be difficult for dogs to do. Then I got my second dog, a (mostly) boston terrier (a little frenchie's in there too), and I saw when I tried to teach her this that she couldn't maintain the balance to do it.
    I could tell it was because of how she was sitting, she seemed to actually roll back on her bottom instead of resting on her heels like my other dog, but I figured this was just an anatomical issue since she's so rounded and sausage shaped instead of proper dog shaped, so I just gave up on it. It never occurred to me that I could try to teach her to sit differently.

    Love this video & send it to my clients all the time for dogs who hurt me when they jump excitedly. Building those doggy abs helps so much & takes the strain off their ACL/legs, they can even take treats more nicely since they don’t have to grab them as they’re falling.

    My 1 year old Volpino italiano couldn't keep his balance so I thought we had to give up on this trick completely. Watching your video was very helpful, now I let him put one of his paws on the hand I hold the treat with and with that little help he finds the perfect balance. One hour training and we master it pretty good, with a daily training and patience, hopefully we can get perfect. Thank you very much!

    Very cute and a great reminder to recheck, retrain and reproof and I love standing behind them for support, that is a great technique to have someone check their bellies that they are okay like when a doc needs to examine them if they are okay. Blessings, the dogs are too cute.

    hehe, i always just gently took the paws of my dog and lifted them, said the command, then she got a treat. after ten times of this i said the command and she did it alone xD
    but very nice tutorial, i'll do it like that if my next dog if my method won't work ^^
    and you have beautiful dogs :) i love how different they are

    • @kamhyde40
      @kamhyde40 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is she allows to the dog to offer her the behavior which builds a different relationship with the dog. She does not force but allows the dog to choose to give the behavior and she works at the pace of the dog's ability not on her agenda's time frame. I've found her approach extremely helpful for teaching my dog to trust me and to want to please me by doing these kinds of actions but I believe in allowing the dog to offer .

    Thanks for your great videos. I have taught my border collie, Kaylie, to sit pretty but she is only doing it for the lure. As soon as the lure disappears she quits doing it without a release cue. If I raise the treat up she stands up on her hind legs. I will try what you say about offering an empty hand and giving her the treat from my other hand. Thank you! Your videos are wonderful! Hi, do you think it's okay to teach this trick to a long (or short legged) dog or would it be bad for their back? I'd love to teach it but wouldn't want her to have problems because of it. It's not as extreme as with a dachshund or corgi but still longer back/shorter legs than of a "regular" dog. Some say it's bad for those kind of dogs but then again it builds muscles

    I noticed how all the dogs in the video had tails. Does it tend to be a bit more challenging with a dog that has a no tail aka DOCKED? My aussie's tail is docked so I know she has less balance than a ton of other dogs, and makes it more difficult

    Do you have any tips about if your dog sees the cue as a cue to jump up, out of the sit? I'm currently marking when he raises his front paws as part of the jump but I'm not sure whether that's making it worse, or whether he'll eventually get what I'm really asking him?

    Hi Kikopup, thanks for the wonderful tutorial.
    My pup has been checked by a vet and is healthy, yet when I try to do this trick with her she watches my hand and the lure for 20 seconds or so, and then she jumps up and holds on to my arm, even though she doesn't need to jump to get the treat. She doesn't take her feet off the ground until she jumps.
    I'd really appreciate any tips to mitigate what I am doing wrong if that's possible!

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a great idea to teach a strait sit, so the back legs build up muscles equally. You can do this by asking for the sit or luring the sit, and if the dog sits to the side, as you go to give the treat, hold it high above the head so the dog reaches up for it and straitens out his back legs to be strait. I suggest beginning with sit pretty with paws rested on your arm.

    I have a question about the behaviour of my Dog while we are in a Training lesson. He learns very fast and only 2 minutes After seeing your Video he was already doing it pretty well. But he is Never calm in an exercise. He looks always like he is in hurry. And it is Really Not possible for me to get him as Quiet as your dogs.
    He is a seven month old border Collie male. Maybe iam doing something wrong or he is just Really excitet about Learning new stuff. I try to calm him with my words and i hold him for a Second. Then he calms a Bit down. And in the Moment i say he's a Good Boy, he Jumps up and he is overexcitet again.

    i have a question what if your dog doesn't fall for the lure? My dog has fairly strong legs and spine and shes able to stand for quite a bit but will not follow the lure into the sit pretty position

    My dog always jumps up and tries do eat my hand whenever I start to move my hand upwards. What can I do to prevent that?

      Keep the treat pressed to the dog's mouth, rather than nose.

    Thank you I'm going to try and get behind my pup. He puts his arms on my arms instead of up in the air
