I remember when my College professors gave me a C for writing a paper about India becoming the technology hub back in 2008...I started a business and started producing in India and selling around the world. I am glad I made the choice I always was hesitant about bringing my idea and manufacturing to China. I believe in India, Mexico and the United States.

As a Swede with ties to India I am really happy to see this opportunity coming to the country. India has a long way to go with regards to infrastructure but as more companies want to diversify their supply chain and capital flows, things could happen fast. I keep dreaming of a developed India and hope to see it in my lifetime!

@Ydgridz,as a foreigner who has travelled in many parts of India and around the world ,I can assured you that India is very difficult place to administrate. It is like many nations inside a nation. The one of reason that religion is so important to them is that it holds this extremely diverse country together.Without it ,the country would have be broken into their respective nations based on their linguistic line and culture.

India is a space powerhouse(the most complex area of science), information technology powerhouse, nuclear power and bio technology powerhouse. India is second to none in above areas. Now india is all set to become a powerhouse in consumer electronics manufacturing. But it has to be noted that such manufacturing facilities has very adverse effect on environment.

I suppose your country flag is of Philippines. I think Philippines wouldn’t take all that long to become rich as being part of ASEAN and in the company of US, Japan etc. Sometimes having less size helps. India will take decades. So, you can perhaps become condescending towards India after a decade when you have leap frogged India. It is like South Korea or Taiwan or Singapore etc etc. They all started when India started but they have gone far far ahead.

When everyone complains about Indian population being it's reason for its poverty. I think that's the biggest advantage india got. India has largest young workforce , biggest democracy, cheap and hardworking labor. Big sector of workforce is already driven by IT and there is heavy competition due to its population. If government made the trade easy and if there was a shift in entrepreneurs, india could easily shift global market.

when he said "manufacturing" he meant assembling. when you see made in India or made in china it means they are assembling in that country. no one really manufactures an entire product in one country. our phone displays are from Korea /China and processors are from Taiwan. so pretty much every component is from other countries except for the frame, packaging, and charger.
companies use various supply chains to supply components. companies tend to have different manufacturing units in different countries. so India doesn't have any display, SOC, RAM, Storage, motherboards manufacturing units I think what's really important is that companies should export phones that are assembled in India. I think only 20% of phones that are assembled in India are exported to other countries. we have to ramp up the assembly units more.
China is at a point where they can manufacture 7nm SOC but India still not there in terms of infrastructure, talented workforce, and ease of doing business. we have to improve a lot if you want to see manufacturing sophisticated techs like displays and SOCs. India needs to introduce courses based on manufacturing, chip designing, etc.. good education is really not affordable in India so gov should concentrate on that. Indian bureaucracy and corruption will be a big challenge too. Chinese gov heavily subsidized their manufacturing that's including chip manufacturing.
people, don't just say that mobile phones are manufactured in India even though a lot of people pointed out that they are just assembly units. since every TH-camr says manufacturing instead of assembling and Indian people are blindly believing that the entire phone is manufactured in India. I don't know what happened but critical thinking and logical reasoning took a big hit in India and don't get offended when someone criticizes India.

they get free publicity and get to stamp on "made in India",
whether or not it actually is productive, or helps the nation in any way...is irrelevant. as long as they get the publicity and votes.
this is true for every govt. plan. every time they botch the implementation, they will always be half-heated and underfunded measures, because they simply have no incentive for the plan to actually work, as long as they are elected into power in the next 5 years.

I can only imagine how beneficial this shift might be for India as a continuation of so many companies' reliance on Indian resources for technology services, now shifting into production. As an American, you can't imagine poverty until you've seen it yourself in a country such as India, yet there are so many contrasts in terms of how quickly real estate and other infrastructure projects are completed so as to inspire confidence in what opportunities Indians are capable of bringing to the world. With ample, low-cost labor and a commitment by the government to support investment and innovation, as well as improving roads and other critical infrastructure, I believe this could be extremely positive for both Apple and for the Indian economy and its people.

Until they deal with their lacklustre labour laws it can be of no use to the general population, but the economy will be strong in numbers as GDP is a bogus metric. I really do wish they implement some good labour laws and focus on education and healthcare; otherwise, there is no point for the common person.

    • @tryingminimalistlife5427

@_ First of all, I like India and I respect your nation and your views. Now let me express my opinion based on my observations for 2 years in India. Your politicians are playing with the colonisation card for too long, first of all, there was no nation as such, to begin with when the colonial hooligans started plundering the sub-continent. India, as an idea was formed when they started ruling the sub continent, so if the colonialists have not gone to India, there would be no India as we know it now, probably it could have been 3/4 countries. So, do not keep falling for that narrative that "if they had not looted us, we could have been great". Open your eyes and see how the middlemen and politicians are looting your nation with the help of ruthless corporates (I say so because I see the development of duopolies in many sectors) leaving the general public suffocated. Labour laws are to be implemented for real benifits to take shape and there needs to be a major focus by the government in education and healthcare. And do not rely on any of the multi billion dollar businesses, they will leave a country and shift elsewhere in a jiffy. If you are a young Indian, I urge you to think and make more young people think about this. I wish the very best for India.

india has not capability to make the sophisticated components in phones, they will rely on Chinese, Korean and Japanese components, for assembly, but the 3 countries plus ASEAN is going to sign the RCEP fta. This will ensure the ease of movement of intermediate goods between the economies, so the cheap assembly plants will go to ASEAN countries first, because it's close to major component suppliers like China, Japan and Korea, but it's also close to large consumer markets like China and ASEAN.

Infrastructure and logistics will be some of the biggest challenges India will face to become a manufacturing giant. If they do not have enough adequate infrastructure and logistics to deliver products or goods on time, companies would look somewhere else. Eventually India would overcome these hurdles, but they need to think 10-20 years ahead to stay competitive and ahead of the game.

Indian consumers are tough to satisfy. If a local company does well there, they have a good chance in western markets. Mobile tech devices is a perfect next step. Their movie and digital content seems to be expanding globally as well. Seeing American / European YT vloggers living in India. Seeing special economic zones being setup everywhere. India for the most past of it's independent history was a socialist country. Even still it maintains its anti business Socialist policies like land and labour regulations which make it hard for any business to conduct.

    • @bulu9214
      @bulu9214 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Bob Smith may be india was far behind in warfare technology and that's because it was the most peace loving civilization . Unlike other regions Indians kings were not interested in spreading their empire outside india. There weren't much blood thirsty kings in India who will subjugate their people for their own benefits instead kings's were building welfare states. In case of rare wars soldiers were strictly prohibited by their kings not to harm civilians and agricultures even of their opponents. The reason India was the most populous country and a very large percentage of world gdp had to do with it's relatively more peace loving and progressive attitude than other civilization.
