Looking back at this over 10 years later... no regrets whatsoever! Now the next round comes up for full symphony orchestra! :-)

Unfortunately, only open for Dutch arrangers.
It will be a blast nonetheless! :-)

Hubbard was one of the pioneers, when he made commando there was no music software to use. He wrote the music data as hex and wrote the program code that played the music data himself.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Some of the greatest composers of all time, are living amongst us right now.... just modestly chilling..
Happy that these guys got the credit that they deserved... if not the money!

@@JeroenTel Rob Hubbard was the pioneer, but you achieved new levels on the C64. I listened to a lot of SID music the last week, and found some of your pieces the most impressing, both musically and technically.

@@NuntiusLegis Thank you for the respect. Couldn't have done it without studying Rob Hubbard's music routine and his personal motivation, though, I guess. ;-)

I totally agree with Maiki - the raw synthetic sounds of the SID combined with very creative low level programming is what made the C64 sound special. Any performance of a live band or orchestra of this kind of music I have ever heard was very boring te me. The aspects that made the music special are lost.
On top of that Rob Hubbard often used existing "real" songs as inspiration, so what is the point then of converting such songs back to real instruments?

I think the only exception to the live performance thing for me, was some of the live performances that Reyn Ouwehand did, but I think that's mainly because he was a composer himself on the latter years of the C64's life, so he could understand how to make a live performance of a chiptune work.

@@isexuallyidentifyaswilliam9321 The C64 is pretty much alive with new software and hardware still being made for it and an excelent emulator available for all current platforms.
Ironically, if you want to write software that will still run ten years in the future on then current machines, write it for C64 or DOS and it will surely run in an emulator window.
