Ah, I wondered about that! Thanks!
Valtatie 4 is actually "highway 4", the longest highway in Finland and it continues all the way to the Northernmost municipality (Utsjoki). The Helsinki-Lahti(-Heinola) motorway is just a part of it.
aka "nelostie" if in any case you heard locals talk about it.
7:44 Small correction, Eläntarhanlahti (literally translates to zoo bay) is a bay of the baltic sea, not a lake.
Thank you for including both finnish and swedish names! Great video, glad you enjoyed it!
I travelled on this train in May fromHelsinki to Lapinlahti. Highly recommend it, so comfortable & such a pleasant journey with great service. And the scenery is so beautiful 😍
Excellent video! I love the ambient announcement audio.
Ngl, the owl in the paint scheme looks cute
I've travelled in several countries in Europe, and compared to those experiences as a Finn I'm very happy with VR, I use extra class if I'm travelling on behalf of company but I'm not sure if I would pay for that for regular trips.
Stellar production 🤩 Loved the aerial view and platform shots of locos, great timing catching some vintage diesels and a freight train with the heavy Ponsse machinery!
I always ride the Ravintolavaunu if possible, their service is really good ☕
Worth the supplement to sit upstairs, seat 237 is a personal favourite :)
It's been over a decade since I last took a train so the cars look pretty good inside I have to say. Back then it was quite rare to see double-deck trains around Eastern Finland too, and most of the seats weren't that nice either.
Great upload! Thoroughly enjoyable😊
my grandparents live right next to one of the stations in south karelia so i have traveled this route lots of times as someone who lives in espoo
Sucks that prices are ridiculously expensive right now unless you buy the trip 3 weeks in advantage.
yup, its much cheaper to go by bus now
3 weeks seems really fair though, i usually buy travel tickets like 6 months before
11:30 the design speed of the line is 220 km/h but it could be increased by increasing the bank angle in bends. Current angle was selected to allow freight trains to also use the line. However, there is only 1 freight train / direction / day as the per-kilometer fee is much higher than on the Lahti-Riihimäki-Kerava route. IC trains are limited to 200 km/h, and only pendolino / allegro trains are able to do 220 km/h. However, trains do their top speed pretty much only if they are running late. If they are on time, they run as slowly as possible to reduce drag (saves electricity) and to make passengers not feel like they are sitting at the next station because there is slack in the timetables.
14:35 is from somewhere else than a VR train (no text in finnish or swedish, only english, and the kind of look you won't find in any currently operating train by VR). Maybe Amtrak?
I don’t think I’ve ever been to a train in Finland that has managed more than 160km/h.
@@saaraa7876 It depends on the track too. Helsinki-Turku is limited to 160 at it's fastest. North from Kouvola (so called "savon rata") is 140, and the same goes for North from Luumäki (so called "karjalan rata". Tampere-Pori is 140, and so is Toijala-Turku. Seinäjoki-Vaasa is 120. Tampere -Jyväskylä is 160 at it's fastest. Everything north of Oulu is 140 or less.
200 km/h is reached only in IC and Pendolino trains in the main line between Helsinki and Oulu and on the Helsinki-Lahti-Kouvola-Luumäki (will soon be extended to Imatra)
@@klapiroska4714 ah, thank you! I’m from Turku but live in Helsinki now, so I mostly travel between those cities. So that makes sense!
It's from his recent North American clip. There's been a fluke in the editing phase.
@@saaraa7876 If you're on the Helsinki-Oulu route, you really can't miss going at over 160 kph, unless it's a night sleeper train.
Really nice documentary! 😎
My guy really got up in Lahti
14:36 -- 14:47 we're captured in a time and place torrent and beamed up in North America.
Great travel video. Keep up the good work! Which camera/phone do you use for filimg?
I have a video from the EueoNight from Zurich to Zagreb and one from the the TER from Basel to Strasbourg coming up in a few weeks!
Greetings from Switzerland!
Great video. I just want to add that Eläintarhanlahti is actually a bay and not lake :)
The attractive seats look hard.
Out of curiosity, what lead you to show the Henna station?
What's up with the scene in 14:35 ??
We were beamed up to North America. It may happen.
😂
Ravintola vaunu means “restaurant carriage/car/trolley”. Ravintola is the word for “restaurant.”
mutta dining car tarkoittaa ravintolavaunua, se ei vain ole suora käännös
Vectron has also become super popular in Denmark!
yes, these Siemens locos can be seen almost everywhere in europe
How did you like it ? 🥸
whats the navigator gps apps name?
I'm also interested.
Speedometer 55 start
He is Reidar Wasenius. Weird name
Does the second class car have lockers for passengers?
All have them downstairs.
Do cars ride as good as they look?
These cars ride extremely well.
Yes, they are very smooth, but where did Finland get them from and how much debt for the purchase? Also, the cleaners for VR are cheap labour immigrants who obviously don't care much for doing their job properly - just look at them when they come through the carriage. The Finnish cleaners have been replaced.
@@donaldmccaithness2180 They are made in Finland by Transtech (now owned by Skoda). I'm not aware how they were financed.
I've not seen dirty carriages.
you are real life Sheldon Cooper
I think they call that having autism
Those first class seats are fine until you are like 185 cm or bit taller than that. Those seats are relatively narrow and if you are tall enough that your shoulders touch those headrests on both side of your seat you won't have a pleasant journey.
Vali, vali. 😳
188cm and no hätä.
@@mikaveekoo Pätkä xD
197cm here, rather sit in eco-class...
@@fallbranch
200cm kyykyssä.
Это чешские вагоны . Даже кротика своего нарисовали ))
Most if not all of these were build by Finnish Transtech before Skoda bought them, but you are of course right that Transtech is now owned by Skoda. Myyrä/The Mole is popular animation figure in Finland and was drawn there before the Czech Skoda bought Transtech.
They are manufactured in Finland. Otanmäki, Kajaani.
Make the video Pakistan primium train greenline express from Islamabad to Karachi in ac business class
That's pretty poor that the bays of 2/4 seats + table are not aligned with the windows where they are mixed with airline style seats and in general the very wide pillars mean a lot of seats with no or poor view.
You can choose your seat, most people have seen enough Finland already.
if you wanna see outside just look for a window seat thats not taken and sit down
It sure would be nice to have nice things here in the U.S. 😢 But it might lead to socialism 😮
It just will not be economically feasible in the US.
This is mostly bs. Trains in Finland suck and are very expensive...
@@Le_Saboteur compared to a lot of other countries finnish trains are amazing
Does not change the fact.
You have The AMTRACK - What a GREAT way to see America - for someone WHO IS from Europe ! On The train You may talk to anybody - that knows Your language !
Typical finn doesn't travel in a "business" class where you were sitting, comfortable seats are too expensive
Not good enough to sit with peasants in publiic transport class! Not many benefiits honestly, considering ticket price increases lately.
Stunning? It's a completely box-standard first world train, anything less wouldn't be worth paying money for.
True that, i'd rather be driven around in my old maybach even if it takes longer.
There is no room for luggage on these trains. Get in one and have a look for yourself. Designed by some moron.
