Dudhia is, of course, a panoramic hilly hamlet on the banks of river Balason at an altitude of about 290 m above sea level. Lying in between the scenic hills of Mirik on its Northwest and those of the Kurseong on its Northeast, the town is quite warm, tranquil, small and simple with beautiful lush green tea gardens slopes along the route after Pashupati.
On our way back to Siliguri from Darjeeling and Ghum via Sukhiapokhri, Simana, Pashupati Market, Gopaldhara and Mirik, spending the whole day, we could not spare time at the Dudhiya Picnic Spot, located just before we entered the Balason river bridge. It was cloudy and getting dark and we had to proceed further along the Rishi Road towards Matigara. The very meandering Balason River was dry then and the spot also wasn’t attractive. It may be definitely a favoured picnic spot for those in the congested Siliguri and other surrounding areas, but for a tourist like us, returning after a tight itinerary for a week.
