- In this video we will be talking about Rollbar! You don't know who he is? Well, you might know him as The 2013 Chevy Sonic RS rally car from Transformers Age of Extinction! Back in the day, we all thought that the rally car would end up being a Transformer, but to our disappointment, it didn't. Despite this, Hasbro would make toys out of the Sonic RS, designating him as the heroic Autobot Rollbar! This video dives into the history of why fans thought the Sonic RS would be a Transformer in addition to their disappointment when the car didn't end up becoming a heroic Autobot.

I personally see this as a missed opportunity to hint at the Witwickans from TLK, by making the car secretly an autobot(either Tracks, Blurr or Smokescreen) that had recently joined the secret order, with Shane’s family being revealed to be members of this group.
Dang, that just makes things so much cooler. And it’s not like they weren’t able to retcon this into TLK

Why would Bay be thinking of future films in the series when he obviously doesn't put any thought into them while he's making them.
That would have a cool twist if bayformers was still around.
The sad part about this is that Sonic RS who isn’t a transformer had more screen time than some of the transformers 😂
That''s one of my biggest gripes against Bay is he never spent enought time on actually showing the TFs either in ordinary moments or in backstory/flashback, or in general... and in the fights, kills off them almost instantly...

I think the shot with the driver missing might have been a promotional shot but Bay decided to repurpose it for the movie to show off the car. Could be why the driver is missing.

Rollbar may have not been in the movie but the Rally car was so sick in the movie it might as well have been him

The explanation for why there was no driver seen in the car the first time we see it was actually super smart, and man the thought of the car being a transformer never came to my mind whatsoever!
I honestly didn’t follow the production of the movies and when I first saw it, I had 2 theories as to who I could have thought it could be. Each with their own evidence.
Smokescreen: the color scheme looked somewhat similar to Smokescreens Aligned look. I also thought it would make sense for Smokescreen and Shane to be buds due to their similar attitudes. Plus, both versions would have been quick racing cars.
Blurr: this one makes a bit more sense since the purple and white colors match the colors of the Aligned Blurr as he is seen in Rescue Bots more than it does Smokescreen, again, both versions taking up racing cars.
If I were to choose which one I felt was more likely now, I would believe the Blurr idea more. Sadly it wasn’t a transformer. But hey, we all love to theorize. They why your channel exists. Thanks for the video, man. Also, where did you find that movie art for Rollbar?

I love how, when I saw this movie with Best friend, I told him when we first saw the car that this has to be an autobot and he was like hmmm no. That was 10sec and now I just realise that hardcore fans were theorising during a few months. Thats impressive. What a community

Obviously Rollbar was ONLY a toy-exclusive character like Longarm and the 90’s GMC Topkick in the 07 movie (The truck Bumblebee was towed by). I think it was a way/strategy to sell the toys of other characters.
Something tells me the original plans for Shane was for him to BE Rollbar, but since thinking of a Transformer-human romance probably itched someone in the writing dept. the wrong way they just changed him later.

I would have preferred that. Interspecies romance is not a new concept In TF and I would love to see it be represented in a live action film.

It would have been cool to see him in the movie, but I also like Shane because he was a good character
I like the idea of the Chevy being Evac from the Ride and I really like the fan concept using Evac's robot mode.
Thought Shane’s Car would have been good for Evac from the 4D Ride

This makes sense really sad u know what would have been really cool if Rollbar was a transformer is if he was in stasis the entire time bc he got found by the TRF escaped and found a spot to hide and end up here and then while driving away he would go out of stasis and take control and drive out of there with Optimus prime but thats just my idea. Even if it was a transformer, it probably would of been side swipe. Maybe not, the only reason bay brought back bumblebee was because he was one of the most popular transformers. THE most popular. Oh well, it would of been really cool if it was an actual transformer.
I don't think it would be sideswipe since it's a Chevy RS and not a Corvette stingray, if it was him his new vehicle mode would have been a red or white 2014 stingray.

Well who knows, probably Smokescreen did scan the vehicle, but never appeared.
And so if a sequel will ever happen, he could show up in front of Shane surprising him, and both could act just like Bee with Sam
That’s a really great Theory. I Would love to see that. There are still many Autobot’s that never made it to the movie same with Deceptions.

The image is a recolour of evac from the transformers ride thing, and evac is just roadbuster but blue with sideswipe's head, so yeah

I actually think the reason why there’s no driver in that one shot is intentional misdirection. Bay wanted you to think that an Autobot has come to rescue Optimus and the others, only for the twist (as insignificant as it was) to be that a human has come to save the day, further establishing the post-DOTM world Age of Extinction takes place in (where it’s no longer as simple as an Autobot just turning up to help out of nowhere like it used to).
This is a very nice video!! There are so many characters in the film who is named Rollbar!!

I hope that an updated "Which Transformers got Reincarnated to focus on the drones and who was used to make them. Again, the video is spot on about the company's history.

there was a rollbar that appeared in the rotf toyline, another rollbar appeared in the rpm and the transformers 2010 toyline as well, also there was pictures of a red jeep during dotm filming which people thought the red jeep was rollbar
The fandom at the time experienced every stage of grief about this random car that appeared very shortly in the movie it self

now imagine if it was actually skids… (hear me out) it was a skids who lost his twin to cemetery wind and would go on to grow and mature to avenge his brother. now ik they could’ve been killed in dotm but they were supposedly cut during post production. sooo using a theory that they survived chicago and eventually were hunted down by cemetery wind would work. ik in the comics they were killed by sentinel prime; but the comics aren’t necessarily canon cause of some inconsistencies from changing scripts. but hey it’s a theory of what could’ve been (I don’t think they would’ve actually done this but it’s fun to think abt)

Yo I know I’m late but this is a great vid and I’m proud to say I have been watching your videos for a long time! I know making video requests is rude but I wanted to know what would happen if Alice the pretender survived rotf and what she would do in dotm. My idea is that she would influence things so that Sam and Mikala never broke up and that she would somehow convince Carly that she was a normal human and would date her to get close to her and eventually deliver her to Dylan Gould during the events of the film.

I really thought it was Smokescreen since it made sense to me, I thought they would reveal it and explain how Shane and Smokescreen met through their enjoyment of racing. To give more human-transformers friendships and see how other transformers try to blend in after Cemetery Wind went out executing them.
I remember telling my dad in the theater that the rally car was a transformer, and I was disappointed that it turned out to be false. This was when I was a kid and I saw a lot of those “new transformers in Tf4” videos, and while I knew most of these characters would not appear, I thought for sure cliffjumper (the white bumblebee) and the rally car transformer would show up as transformers since we saw the car in the trailer (with me thinking the rally car would be smokescreen)
i remember that chevrolet sonic had even one step changer
Race/rally seats cannot recline. The missing driver and Bay's misleads were probably on purpose to show that not every vehicle has to be a Transformer. OR it was to meet certain sponsorship requirements by Chevy like "Everytime you promote the other vehicles, this one also has to be promoted"

Double uploads are pretty rare I had both of these videos planned awhile back I just have to get the new intro in and order to upload them, As for some toys I can definitely see that happening, I plan to do a few TH-cam shorts on some of the new studio series figures

I was disappointed that we didn't get the Stunticons in TF4. Some of the new vehicles looked as though they could have been Motormaster, Dead End and Wildrider. The rally car probably would have looked out of place as Breakdown though...

Nice video! I was bored and decided to rewatch all 5 movies and I noticed that in the last knight. Megatron was kicked out of the chamber on the same level that Optimus broke through while saving Vivian’s and Cade. So I think megatron survived one again
