54 years ago today, I had just turned 14. Not old enough to be on a college campus or attending a university but boy how this ripped my heart out of my chest wall. 4 dead in O HI O, plus the injured such as this man. FREEDOM OF SPEECH is NOT NEGOTIABLE.
I wonder if the students at Kent State will stage their own protest. Tomorrow will mark 53 years since the massacre happened.
Nope Ohio stopped the nonsense day and be unlike democrats who let them hurt people and back terrorists
Well, they can and if they start throwing rocks at the guard or the police, they will end up dead. History is repeating it's self in the US, so why not Kent State?
It was 1970 so 54 years.
It was after the weather underground had already been active. Check history
What massacre?
I was very young when that happened but i remember it. What stuck to me was my mother gasping when the news showed it. My father who was a ex- military man and ex-police officer took a job at Northport Va hospital said "i would never let my sons serve in Vietnam".
Your father was a wisened man
My Dad said the same thing. 👍
He knew the honorable young men who went to fight these wars ,are used and abused,...to support the rich getting richer, their sons, don't fight...the poor are used to make our country stronger, when they don't reap the benefits that the rich do...the rich create the wars to enrich themselves...
They cover what they're paid to cover and ignore what they're told to ignore.
Why is the media spending so much time covering the protests and not the people in Gaza / Israel who are actually suffering
You probably already know the reason
This is different from the Floyd and Charlottesville riots
Prays for the war to end
It’s because it’s reflected on the event in the 70’s. Also America number one, anything that happens in America always blows up more than horrendous stuff in other countries. Most of the horrendous stuff being caused by us.
The media airs stories they're told to, and don't air the stories they're told not to... pretty simple
It's about keeping the narrative
They show what they're told to show. Simple as that.
This is, as this man said, it's an echo of 1967. I would not be at all surprised to see that echo continuing.
After Kent State, there was Jackson State College in Mississippi. I’m glad they are using their 1st Amendment right before they take that too.🤔😤🤦♀️

Average US police officer looks more like a soldier and shows up with full gear more often every year

They've made it into their culture of police
The 2nd amendment is to fight tyranny
Let them wear their tough guy Rambo costumes. It makes them feel less fear for their safety.

FREEDOM!!!!!!!
Reminded of what happened at Kent State and how it relates to the current campus protests-there’s your reason why the natl guard was not deployed. It would have been disastrous.
To give full context to why the National Guard was called in the first place Here is what happed "May 1st Friday evening in downtown Kent began peacefully with the usual socializing in the bars, but events quickly escalated into a violent confrontation between protestors and local police. The exact causes of the disturbance are still the subject of debate, but bonfires were built in the streets of downtown Kent, cars were stopped, police cars were hit with bottles, and some store windows were broken. The entire Kent police force was called to duty as well as officers from the county and surrounding communities. Kent Mayor Leroy Satrom declared a state of emergency, called Governor James Rhodes' office to seek assistance, and ordered all of the bars closed. The decision to close the bars early increased the size of the angry crowd. Police eventually succeeded in using tear gas to disperse the crowd from downtown, forcing them to move several blocks back to the campus.
The next day, Saturday, May 2, Mayor Satrom met with other city officials and a representative of the Ohio National Guard who had been dispatched to Kent. Mayor Satrom then made the decision to ask Governor Rhodes to send the Ohio National Guard to Kent. The mayor feared further disturbances in Kent based upon the events of the previous evening, but more disturbing to the mayor were threats that had been made to downtown businesses and city officials as well as rumors that radical revolutionaries were in Kent to destroy the city and the university. Satrom was fearful that local forces would be inadequate to meet the potential disturbances, and thus about 5 p.m. he called the Governor's office to make an official request for assistance from the Ohio National Guard."

Kent State was a unique exception to student demonstrations. At other places around the country police were often used to break up demonstrations and make arrests. In some pieces tear gas was used and others SWAT teams.

@@linnybug719That'd be fine and dandy excepting the fact that A) The USS Liberty radio called multiple times and made it abundantly clear that the vessel belonged to the US Navy. B) The vessel had an abnormally large USA flag hoisted up, meaning it'd have been VISIBLE for miles. C) The USS Liberty crew were privy to a mass grave of Egyptian men women and children which was left behind by the Israelis.
