...great tip for using a Torx bit. I was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force and my specialty was removing seized fasteners. I removed thousands of seized and rounded screws, but had never seen the tip to use Torx bit...I have however, snapped off many , "easy-outs"...the most painful sound ever...
DOOOOD!!! I am so glad you put this video up!!! Both of the res screws on my XR650R are stripped out, and now I’m certain that I can get them out!!! Muchas Gracias sir!!!! 🤘🏼
Impact driver and bit set. I use torx bits like that on round allen/hex socket screws. Also left handed drill bits, I've had screws like that start to back out just using the lefty drill.
Good video on a problem some matter. Alot of the KTM's have the torx screws stock, but can still be a problem, if you don't anti-seize them or use a good quality torx bit, during your maintenance. Also, beating too hard on those seized screws have seen the master cylinder crack or break off of the handlebar mount, so understand the possibilities before you go all barbarian.
@@highlandcycles Ahhh I didn't mean YOUR "shorts" - TH-cam doesn't let you filter them at all! They use them strictly to compete with "Tick-Tok & Insta"
One-hundred percent of the time, I pull out the impact screwdriver for those screws. Also worth mentioning, if those screws have any wear at all just replace them. It's not worth the risk to reuse a screw with a partially stripped head.
Lay a thin rubber band over the stripped screw. Then shove the screwdriver thrrw the rubber band into the screw and turn. It'll take the screw right out

Yes, JIS: Japanese Industrial Standard has been use for decades ... is also used on electronics like stereos,... People ruin them by using the wrong type screwdriver. They use an American Philips. Ignorance is not an excuse. And they think they are a knowledgeable mechanic. 🤣
Awesome tip! You taking time out of your busy days shows your commitment to the community!
Worked perfectly. I used a t20 and a slightly bigger dirill bit, but only because that's all i had on hand.
Glad that worked for you
Best dirt bike channel on TH-cam Morgan you be the man.
Thanks

Easy-Outs are a joke... just another "tool" they are selling right? ;-]

@@casmitherz...actually easy outs are great if you master them, but never break one off in a fastener....that's big trouble...
Great tip worked like a champ!!! I also used a torx #15 and a 3/32 drill bit. Thanks so much!!!
Never heard of a JIS…gonna get a couple soon. Thanks for the tip!!
If you get to the point of using a drill, I recommend using left-handed drill bits. Left-handed bits will often catch and loosen the screw.
Yeah. I normally do. Just don't always have the right size LH bit. I only have about 4
Hasn't failed me yet.

👍🏻
I ve used that method. Lots of time ill just use a punch as far out on the faster as possible in the direction needed.
I have done that too.
#KimballMidwest * Drive Grip* or good old fashion valve lapping compound has been my go too and Yes the correct driver a must.
Many years ago, a guy showed me a trick. Valve grinding compound, put some on your screwdriver and it won't slip. It works.
yep, that works well.
Tech tips videos should be a normal deal dude. Not just the annoying "shorts" either. Good to see the boys out doin it!
Hahahah, nice back handed compliment. Videos come as stuff comes up in the shop.

Vessel makes some excellent JIS screwdrivers for a decent price. They also make an impacting driver as well. They’re a Japanese tool manufacturer
Yep. Those are sweet
$15 last time I picked up the set from Amazon.
I have a couple of the Impactas, they are nice!!!

100%
Electric impact driver even gets rounded ones out most times, then fall back to the sharp center punch out on the edge of the screw.
@@zxcvbnmnz I'd never use an electric impact driver. I'm talking about the driver with a spring loaded shaft that you hit with a hammer
Yep that’s what I have done in the past works 👍
Yep JIS for your Japanese bikes fo sho!
Thanks for including the scripture reference. And thanks for the tip.
You bet! God is good!!

If you ride long enough you will. Seems like everyone has to deal with it sometime.
You forgot the most important step, throw away the stock screws and install Allan or even better Torx screws.
True
I use this technique to remove an odi grip on the non throttle side . They have a weird size Allen head that likes to strip way too easy
Kids riding dirt bikes got me to cry😢😇🤪✅⚙️💪💙
How many backyard wrenchers have said "next time I get a new bike ect I'm going to take it apart and grease every nut ,bolt and screw for later.😁
Hahahaha
Why does every used bike come with stripped master cylinder screws? Some peoples children am I right 😂
What size drill bit?
1/8” I think
Hate those screws, I’ll keep those tips in mind
use left hand drill bits
I have them. This is for guys that just have the normal stuff.
Morgan do you ever use the drill bits that help remove stripped screws? I think they’re called "grab it” but there’s several different brands.
No. I use left hand drill bits pretty often but I only have a few sizes.

You ever try a drill bit with reverse cutting . A left hand drill .once they bite the screw comes out . I got them was amazed . Give them a try
Yep. I have some. They sometimes work like that. I’m just trying to show folks what they can do with what most people have.
