I have been looking at booking a trip to the Great Barrier Reef and it sounds ideal being able to stay at a resort and just snorkel off the beach into it. Did they have regular food at the general store or a way to cook at the hotel? In regards to the snorkeling aspect after you snorkel a certain amount I would say it just becomes natural. We snorkeled Hawaii and the Dominican Republic. Luckily we started in the Dominican Republic because the waters were calm and warm there so you did not even need flippers. Hawaii you need flippers because the waves are harsh. By the beach it would be hard to get in without flippers and if you snorkel out where the action is you really need flippers or else you will just get carried out into the ocean the waves are so forceful. Sounds like it is pretty calm around Fitzroy island.
Hey! You’ll love staying at the resort too. General store only had snacks but there was a bar and restaurant on the island where we had lunch. It was a little expensive though. I loved the snorkel experience. It was a great way to just begin and get comfortable in the water and since it was such a beautiful experience, I am motivated to do it again 😍
I am absolutely terrified of snorkelling and have told my family to stop telling me I have to do it as we are going to Australia. You have made me feel a little better but you said water got into your mask. Did that scare you and how easy was it to sort out? Thanks for your videos - I’m just about to subscribe 😊
Heyy! I can feel you. It is definitely horrifying to think but once I got in the water and got a little used to it, I felt better. It did scare me but I took help of the instructor the first time and then you basically just learn how to adjust your mask if that happens. This was a very shallow part so it did not feel as scary as I was imagining
@ thank you for the quick reply. Were you able to stand up and see any thing. Fitzroy Island sounds much better for me than a 2-3 hour boat trip from Cairns. X
@ You are not supposed to stand because there are corals everywhere. But if you are really not keen on snorkelling then just go on a glass bottom tour. You can see everything
Congratulations on overcoming your fears hun 🌷🌷! Thanks for the lovely video ! I went to green island last time and this time heading to Fitzroy . I am a Queenslander. Also if I may the cai part in cairns is pronounced like this - (as in “can “of coke or Canada ) and not like ask cake . But my aunt from Sydney pronounces it as in cake too .
Thank you!! I am sure you’ll love it at Fitzroy. You know I noticed that a lot of people in Cairns were pronouncing it like you do and I was just confused. Now it all makes sense.
I don't think that island was developed for tourists when I was in Cairns. I went for a day trip to Green Island and did the snorkelling etc there. Fitzroy Island looks great.
Hey! Just a quick little question, do you know how to swim and do you need to know how to swim to go for beginners snorkelling considering you get to hold onto the safety tube? :)
Hey, I didn’t know how to swim and you don’t need to. They give you life vests which keeps you afloat and the tube is for guidance. Once you are comfortable, you can let go of it.
Wonderful video! You have given me the ideas of how to see the Great Barrier Reef without diving. Thank you!
Yayyy! I hope you have a great time!

Oh that’s interesting. I am sure you’ll like it if you go there now. It’s less crowded than Green Island.
Did you enjoy Green Island?
@@liamariavoelker4162Sure did. Got to snorkel on the reef.

Nice info but I got motion sick from watching the last goodbye part of the video 😵💫
I am so sorry! I’ll work on making it better ❤️
Can you do it if you don’t know how to swim ?
For sure! I don’t know how to swim. And basically you don’t need to swim. You just float with the life jacket and move your legs to go forward.
